Good rules to live by.

I wonder if this applies to jeeps?

I've always seen recce jeeps as being much like the light cavalry of old.

They use their speed and élan to roam through vast open areas ahead of slower units, harrying retreating enemies, communicating what roads, bridges and the like the infantry and armour will be able to plan on using, etc., but not wasting their unarmoured mounts and small numbers of specialised personnel on duking it out with frontline units possessing superior firepower, numbers and prepared positions in the line.

When scout jeeps are around for missions more significant than a skirmish I tend to use them as "alright then, since we're already here we'll help out with heavy MG fire from back here".

Generally I wouldn't send a jeep to recon unless it was a situation where I needed to cover a lot of ground quickly.

The eastern front had a lot of smoking pyres from recon vehicles, but the western front was much more infantry-centric snooping.

What about dismounting the driver and sending him up?  I suppose either way you'll probably lose the use of the jeep, but maybe the driver won't be spotted as easily.

I'll turf out tank and other AFV crews & have them scout forward on foot if I have time. They are a lot less conspicuous than an actual AFV.

Can't anyone get into a jeep and drive? I thought so but maybe I'm wrong. There are lots of units that are jeep borne and one of them is the driver. Perhaps they are special. I think I just reached that conclusion form that observation and never tested it out.

For sure but lets fact it he will get spotted and shot. Either their commander will get cocky and take a risk or Murphy's law will just get him killed.
