Is it possible to have the same options for geotiffs as dgm? Having an rotatable bounding box and water level correction would be great.

In principle, yes, but I'm undecided if it's worth the effort. In fact, I'm think about shutting down geotiff2cm entirely because it is so easy to convert geotiffs to xyz files. You can use QGis or the python package rasterio for that. Having to maintain only one tool is way more attractive for me than having two or three (.asc files are also used frequently, e.g. by France, and they can be converted to .xyz, too).

You are using the python sources, anyway, right? Then I'll post how to use rasterio for that later.

That would be cool, thanks :)

rio.exe convert your_geotiff.tif your_geotiff.xyz

Caveat: a) The resulting file can get (very) large. b) The result will probably only be useful if your geotiff is projected (i.e. in metres not degrees) and the resolution is 1m x 1m. If the geotiff is not already in that format, you can use QGis to extract a region of interest and reproject and resample it.

I also released update 2.0.1.

Minor update that adds support for comma separated xyz data.

https://github.com/DerButschi/CMAutoEditor/releases/latest/download/release.zip

@samuraiman This should fix the issue with your data.

Yes it works brilliantly. I just produced a huge 6400x2576 map and it is gorgeous.Ā  I will need to go in and edit the buildings, fences and hedges, flavor objects, and many other details, but the basic map does get generated saving massive amounts of work.Ā  It took about 4 hours to render the elevation and about 10 hours to render the rest over night. The only issue is maybe my xyz data was corrupted because the bottom of the generated map did not match the rest of the map and I had to trim it off by about 350 meters.Ā  I will re-download the xyz data and try it again. I would post a photo but forum says I have no space. Excellent tool.

I use imgur to upload screenshots and such and link them here.

I'm actually quite curious about your map. I've never tried to go beyond the standard 4160m allowed in one direction and it is not really by design if it works with CMAutoEditor - more a byproduct of the "scrolling" mechanism... So, not sure, might even be that your issue with the bottom part is somehow related to that.

I never got my geotiff2cm to work either. Same issues as before, I think I should try a different system before speaking up again. It sucks because I would leave my computer on every night pumping out terrains for people.

Again, can I ask you guys to please use the issue template here

https://github.com/DerButschi/CMAutoEditor/issues

for stuff like that? I really do want to help you but I don't want to let this thread devolve IT-support hotline style into me asking questions about the details of your system (and if you have tried to turn it off and on again šŸ˜‰) that must surely be boring for 99% of the other forumites.

Thanks, would help me a great deal! šŸ™‚

New release doesn't seem to work for me, have logged the issue on github @Butschi

The autoeditor window just closes when told to run and I'm hella stumped!

*sigh* That will take longer. Sorry, the .exe files are not working in version 2.1, so I'm removing them for now.

Btw. if you start the .exe files from the Power Shell or command prompt, the shell won't close the moment a program crashes and you are able to see the error message.

Love the look of your tool Butschi! As a mapper this makes me excited- but!

The campaign I'm about to start is gonna be SF2 and I don't own CW, but do own FI. Do you foresee any issues with-

- Me making the map in SF2 with just the normal CW or FI profile?

Or

-Making the map in FI and porting it to SF2?

I know non-modular buildings break converting maps from one CM title to another but I have no extra cross-title knowledge than that really xD

Ā

Any help or advice would be grand!

Unfortunately not, CMSF2 doesn't play nice with ANY title except the 1.0 versions of CM. So like, the very original CD. If you have a 1.0 game you can convert between them. SF1 was 1.0 - 3.0 and SF2 was the bump to 4.0

Here you go. Looks like the bottom portion of the map shifted to the left at seen in the first image.Ā  Not sure why.

I did a quick check. As I thought, this is related to the scrolling mechanism. This "scrolling" is actually done by extending the map to one side (and then shrinking on the other side but that doesn't matter here). As you certainly know, in the Scenario Editor you can only go up to 4160m in one direction. So that is what happens with the first "line". When going to 6000m, CMAutoEditor hits the limit at 4160m and tries to scroll further which doesn't work (but which it can't know). It then scroll back the full 6000m, which is possible, and then starts then next line from there, so the other "lines" above the first one are ok. So, in principle, it could work with larger maps if CMAutoEditor starts by scrolling to the right there.

I will make a note to look into it but no promises whatsoever as to when that will happen.

For all of you who want to extract elevation data from geotiffs: I did a short tutorial on how to convert geotiffs to xyz data so you can use the data with dgm2cm.

@Pinetree @Artkin

Ive been pretty busy but ill remember to check this out. Thanks for this, its super important to me. Everyday I learn more and more about Fall Blau.

Great stuff, thank you. I was doing it slightly differently (using the GDAL processing toolbox) but your process makes a lot more sense.

I retried the elevation generation and had no problems with the bottom shifting. Maybe I know why the bottom portion of the map shifted left on the first map. I left out a particular xyz zone that was outside the area I was working on but in the same row as other areas in the map. Perhaps that missing zone caused a shift among the others.

I won't complain if it works. šŸ™‚ (That's the kind of thing where I like to be wrong. šŸ˜)

Still, I don't think it actually can work... In your case, the OSM part is probably fine when you start from a pre-existing map with elevations. But I guess when you take a close look at whether the elevations are correct in the first row, you are going to discover that they are in fact not.

Come to think of it, it may be a workaround to just make a new (empty) map with the correct size (look into elevation csv file and take the maximum x and y value x8), go to the upper left corner and then start the process from there (checking "Take start size from file")...
