HOW TO MAKE A BIG MOD (TEST DUMMY LOG)

Recommended Posts

This mod, like many others I have embarked upon, has been a great learning experience.

FRANCE 1940: I have learned so much about this phase of the war. Wow. Great stuff. <BFC, maybe you should rethink your hardline? A handful of forumite nobody's has created a damn good product in 9 weeks. Imagine what YOU could do with the keys to the game. No "Fake Lobster!" put downs for you guys. >

I am working with @JM Stuff to do a small sub-mod to FRANCE 1940. We are creating the Chasseurs Ardennais. I plan to do a scenario, or maybe a mini-campaign, for the "Battle of Bodange" in Belgium, as the Germans tried to get through the Ardennes.

Work in Progress, the other map @kohlenklau had ordered. 😉 The area around Perbais for the Battle of Gembloux. The "Master Map" will be about 2.5km x 2km. Entirely different beast than Stonne. This is tank country, much more flat and open. Although, less open than I initially thought: The difference between highest and lowest point is still around 30m. More like rolling hills, very much in line with what is often shown in photos of Belgium 1940.

Also, way less historically accurate and more artistic license as I only have a 1:50000 topographic map to work with. If someone happens to have some good material (map, photos, ...) I'll happily include that!

Btw. Hedgerow Hell really boosts this mod!

BFC always stated that it was too much investment for not so high potential sells. And that creating new armor models was a lot of work.

Well, the Dream Team has demonstrated that the graphical stuff can be done (indeed, it has been done!)

And for the armor models, Char B1 already exists in a flamethrowing version, R35 does exist, there are Hotchkiss and SOMUA halftrack chassis developped for CMBN, Panzer IV and Panzer III exist for the most part… So? Not many new tanks to develop from scratch for a good France 40 base game: S-35, Panhard 178, Panzer I and II, and here you go! With a British/Belgian module if the base game sells well! And lot of stuff on hold for a great vehicle pack!

Go, BFC, go!

I can only approve your words!

Yes we can already added ourself tanks with a little manipulation in blender, like British Vickers or italians Semovente or tankettes... for France 1940, and perhaps later

Poland 1939, Czechoslovakia 1938, Spanish (German "test war") 1936, later Yougoslavia with Hungarian Bulgarian and (Croatia Hrvatska) Greece, and Ttito Partisans, wihtout forget the Blue Spanish division, a whole job, but available, just imagination, and work... and take what can help us already existing from BFC...

But can you explain more about

"already exists in a flamethrowing version, ...SOMUA halftrack chassis developped " ?

But I'm quiet sure in 5, 10, 15, or even 20 years, when he will have a cane, a big moustache and glasses, and also perhaps a wheelchair, because he will need to rest his legs, with his little blanket to cover himself, he will be able to do us another favor, on a mod that we will try to solve...

Fo the Battle for Normandy Vehicle Pack, BFC developped :

- Flammpanzer Char B-2(f)

- Geschützwagen 39H(f) 75mm and Geschützwagen 39H(f) 105mm which do use the same chassis as Hotchkiss H39 tank (so animation for the H39 wheels DOES already exist, and as the turret is the same as R35's, it shouldn't require much work to provide a Hotchkiss tank!).

For the SOMUA I'm wrong. I've mistaken the SOMUA for the Unic P107, whose chassis does exist thanks to the Halftrack U304(f) of the same battle pack.

And I forgot about:

- Hetzer and Grille do use the PzKpfw 38(t) chassis -> this tank chassis also does exist

- The same CMBN VP offers SdKfz 135/1 150mm as well, so the Lorraine tracked chassis is also already available…

Ah ok because when there will be one Somua we have already another french tank !

Good Idea we will check all in details !

Yes, this is good observation on your part. You are a good new man to the forums!

I do fantasy dream to go in Blender and create something with the "parts" that are available. But then I also think my time is best applied to scenario or campaign creation for the FRANCE 1940 project.

You will be in the jackboots of Feldwebel Walter Rubarth of Panzerpionier-Bataillon 49. Only a few rubber assault boats made it across the Meuse. Can you complete the mission that resulted in Rubarth's Ritterkreuz?

I have it out for testing. I played it several times and made some tweaks. I enjoyed it.

FR40B RUBARTH'S RITTERKREUZ

mvReORD.png

On 10 May 1940, the Germans commenced their invasion of France and the low countries.

3 days later they were at the Meuse River...

OBJECTIVES:

CONCRETE BUNKERS: Up to 1000 points

WOOD BUNKERS: Up to 250 points

FRENCH SOLDIERS: Up to 200 points

Battle Duration 50 minutes.

You start the scenario with a forward observer in position on the German side of the Meuse.

He has 4 Stuka Missions and 2 batteries of 105's.

You must use them all at the very beginning.

Target whatever you desire to help Feldwebel Rubarth complete his mission.

Use the area target with a 200+/- meter diameter.

NO PIN POINT TARGETING.

This simulates the Luftwaffe attack that preceded the crossing operations.

10th Panzer Was stripped of its heavy artillery for use by 1st Panzer Division.

Feldwebel Walter Rubarth and his "Stosstrupp" arrive at T=10 minutes.

Rubarth is a Platoon HQ of 1 or 2 men (random).

2 Breach Teams

1 Flamethrower Team

1 Infantry Squad

The actual crossing is simulated.

They arrive with their "rafts" on the far side of the Meuse north of the destroyed bridge.

They have an ammo crate with SMG and rifle ammo.

Good luck!

They're roaming at dawn…

You are fast becoming on par with many old timers. But if maybe you don't know (YET) there is an artificial brightness hotkey. Look in hotkeys. I think alt-B but I am not sure. Sometimes my fingers seem to know on the keyboard but my brain can't say. alt-I gets rid of icons and other useful things for screenshots.

OUTSIDE THIS THREAD there are many threads that argue/discuss/debate/question/analyze the CM world and how the fog and mist and darkness impact spotting wrongly/rightly/realistically/crazily. Maybe you get the picture? I guess artificial brightness just lets the human looking at the monitor see things better. You are near my age. Do you remember the older TV shows that you know are filmed in the daytime (you see the shadows!) but they use a lens shade to LOOK like the dark evening? Hilarious.

We look forward to your first scenario.

Wow wow... Slow down Kohlenklau, that's very sweet from you but I've yet to produce something worthy! I'm just 12 years late after all! 😁

It is alt-B indeed. But the dark picture was on-purpose! Even though the mean age on this forum is somewhere around 50-55… 🥸 (biggest glasses smiley I could find…)

retiring from modding or playing or both?

I am not sure exactly. I definitely want to retire from content creation but might still play CM. A good long break is needed. I once went away for 5 years so it is not some "rage quit"...just a decision

Good signs are your arrival to the forums and also @PEB14.

In with the new and out with the old! :D
