Warts 'n' all
Elizabeth lifts her eyes from this morning's Whitehall Gazette, and groans, "Oh, no. Another bloody Charles. I suppose you'll be wanting me to go and see Mrs. Axeman."

Indeed, she didn't go to Canada to sit out the war. King Charles got a hard act to follow. Here the voices are raised again to become a republic.

As most Australians see him a solution to a non-existing problem. We respected Queen Elizabeth here.

But traditions are important, now more than ever.

They abolished capital punishment so no axe man. I just ried a simple contribution with a RIP to Queen Elizabeth. She will be shown as a role model for years to come.

Her finest hour. Lizzie Saxe-Coburg und Gotha gets presented to "The Guv'nor" Ken Colyer at The Royal Festival Hall 14th July 1951. As for her being the "First Lady", she wasn't. That title goes to Billie Holiday as Margaret Rose would have been happy to tell you if she was still with us. She won't be able to with all this flipping nonsense that is going on right now. How can't people have something better to do than to stand for several hours just to have a look at the coffin the dead old woman is in? It's also just incredible how the news media can spend so much time reporting what Charles and his sons have been doing every day. I have avoided to buy any newspaper since she died because of this. Poor me will most likely have to wait another three or four weeks.

Obviously, I have previous when it comes to the royals. But, most Limeys enjoy/wallow in what you call "nonsense", so you will just have to put up with it a bit longer. As for the original post, the Pathe newsreel, that was blatant propaganda. Through no fault of her own, she didn't really "do her bit". Lizzie Saxe-Coburg und Gotha wasn't allowed to enroll with the ATS until she was 18 in the spring of 1944. Then she had to wait around 11 months before she attended a training camp in March '45. And still then she was treated totally differently from her comrades, no cold nights in a tent, or a Nissan hut, instead she was driven back to Windsor Castle every evening. It probably wasn't what she wanted, but that is how it was. "And now on BBC Television we take you live to the Royal Festival Hall where the Princess Elizabeth is being presented to some greasy oik who can't be bothered to put a suit on."
