Potential bug with force selection

Recommended Posts

I just want to preface this with the acknowledgement that this probably isn't the first time this was brought up. That being said I couldn't find anything via google or on this forum's search engine. If anyone has a link I would appreciate it.

I've recently updated my original copy of CMBN to 4.0. I've noticed that although I only have the base game, all of the scenarios and campaigns that one might find with all of the modules are listed. When I highlight one, the game lists at the bottom the name of the module I would need to play the game. This is all well and good, its nice to know whats out there and with what I've seen of the 4.0 update, I might finally want to purchase a few modules. I include this information however, to help diagnose or at the very least explain what I think is going on here.

I've noticed with both the german army and the americans, flame throwers are available in the force selection screen. Admittedly I haven't played the game in nearly 5 years, but I don't recall them ever being available. When they are selected, they do not appear on the map. I can't recall if its the entire section, or just the teams themselves, but regardless, the points I spent on these forces are gone forever.

So now I know not to select flamethrowers. Is this something I introduced when I upgraded to 4.0? (IE: I screwed up the patch?)

Working off the assumption that I am not the first person to happen upon this problem, my question would be: Has anyone compiled a list of non-compatible units? Are there other units I could select that aren't going to be on the map? Would this affect PBEM games with opponents who have all the modules?

Thanks

Fry, they were introduced around v.3, about 4-5 years ago, so you must have just missed them.  (They show up in brz 310 in your data files, which shows a date of December 2015, but I'm not sure when that version actually came out.) If you haven't gone to v.3 you won't be able to access them.

I should be able to requisition flame throwers? So maybe I have something wrong with my installation? They are selectable when I’m picking a force, they just don’t show up on the map. Can anyone else with the most up to date game, with only the base game installed, replicate this issue?
I’m not overly upset that I can’t use flamethrowers; I’m just wondering if I’ve done something to my installation. I’ve never had this issue before with other forces, either I could use them with my module, or I couldn’t not. I figured they’d be greyed out or simply not listed.

thanks for the reply

Why not just download the all in one installer, reinstall and then apply all your license keys.....That should fix this issue AFAIK.

This above...The All-In-One Installer will also bring you to v4.03 (if you don't already have it), thou, you probably don't have to re-apply any License Keys (since you already did that).

Hmm, I also wonder if that's the reason why we can't get our PBEM going...I have 4.03, and if you don't, then your going to have to update.

@IanL  Sounds like one for you.  ;)

Perhaps 🙂 I was avoiding commenting since I don't have a lot of time right now. Off the top of my head flame throwers were added in the vehicle pack. @fry30 did you purchase the vehicle pack? There are a couple of things that could be going on here:

1) You do not have the vehicle and the game is erroneously letting you purchase them - bug. Only work around would be to not purchase flamethrowers until you purchase and enter the vehicle pack codes.

2) You do have the vehicle pack and your install is some how messed up - also bug. Probably bug that will be difficult to reproduce (I mean the messed up install not the process of purchasing flame throwers). Your work around would be to reinstall using the all in one installer. Your activation codes will be remembered but re-entering at least the vehicle pack code would be a good idea too.

@fry30 let me know if you have purchased the vehicle pack or not. Everyone else correct me I have have it wrong that flame throwers were added in the vehicle pack.

Searching through my exploded brz’s starting from 100, as noted above, I first found them in brz 310. (I always rezexplode all the brz’s as soon as I purchase a game or modules/upgrades and keep them in my backup folders for each game.) I don’t believe that was the vehicle pack, but am not certain.

I appreciate you gents helping to get me on track.

Ian I only have the basegame.

IIRC, I installed the game from battlefront.com, found my activation key from an old email, and then purchased the 4.0 upgrade from the same website. Having just checked the bottom right of the screen, I see that I am upgraded to 4.03.

I downloaded the full installer, which apparently includes upgrades for all the modules. I'm going to recheck to see if there's an installer that upgrades just the basegame.

I'm looking at the flamethrower issue as a symptom of the problem, not the problem itself.

I've opened CM Battle for Normandy v403 Installer.exe to reinstall. I notice that in the folder where it is located, it has all of the .brz files for every version and every module of the game.  I've gone back and looked at the files/folders made available to me at the link battlefront provided, and I see options for version 3.0 and 4.0. I downloaded the full 3.0 and installed it. Then I downloaded the full 4.0 installer and installed that as well. Maybe I could have installed the full 3.0 and saved myself some time and just installed the upgrade version of 4.0.

Okay I'm making myself dizzy now. Hopefully the reinstall works.

I think it might have something to do with the nature of the 4.0 update. It creates what I would imagine are place holders for the various modules, which again I think is neat. Unfortunately I think they also slightttttttly tweak the base game files.

looking at the set up folder (I access it via a link battlefront sends me in my receipt) it includes an executable file with the various .brzs for all the different modules. Maybe I can pull them out manually, and run the executable with just the base game files (ver 1.2, 2.0, 3.0 so on) or just drop them in my game folder (assuming of course that’s how either of these things work).
