Lt Belenko
What is the 150 mm HEAT ammo provided with this gun? It appears in the game and in the CMBN manual page 192. So how exactly do you PaK 150mm of stuff in a 50mm chamber?
SlowMotion
AFAIK the thick part of the ammo is outside gun tube, so it looks a bit like panzer faust.
YankeeDog
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stielgranate_41 This link gives information about the version designed to work with 37mm AT gun, but IIRC the 50mm version was basically the same thing. Technically, it's a rifle grenade, scaled up to work in an AT gun. Short range, inaccurate, but packs a hell of a punch.

pazuzusmiles
yeah Ive read up on it before....it does pack a punch..but to be real accurate u had to be closer to target than I would prefer hahahaha
Sergei
yeah Ive read up on it before....it does pack a punch..but to be real accurate u had to be closer to target than I would prefer hahahaha It's not as bad as the bayonet attachment for the Flak 88, though.
John Kettler
Lt Belenko, Your thread title totally confused me, especially after I read the initial question. The problem lies in the fact that you used the wrong weapon designator in the thread title. The gun you're really talking about is a 3.7cm PaK 36, and it was that one for which Wicky so helpfully provided a picture of with the stickbomb, a rather desperate effort to keep the popgun combat viable. Here's a rundown on the weapon http://www.lonesentry.com/manuals/german-infantry-weapons/37-mm-pak.html The 5cm PaK 38 is a different beast altogether, and to fight Shermans and worse, I'd expect it to have "T" ammo issued, specifically, PzGr 40. Sakai007
The weapon he is talking about is the 5cm AT gun in CMBN. The only CMx2 title with the 3.7cm Pak 36 is the new CMFI. There is indeed a over caliber round for the Pak 38 as well. Similar in function to that of the Pak 36. The pic up top, and the link with it, are just to give an idea of what kind of round this is. That's what I interpreted out of the first few posts anyway. That was an interesting link you posted on the Pak 36. I had forgotten about that site, haven't used it since I got this computer, so it wasn't on my favorites. That mistake has be rectified. Thanks for the info!
Sergei
The 5cm PaK 38 is a different beast altogether, and to fight Shermans and worse, I'd expect it to have "T" ammo issued, specifically, PzGr 40. By 1944 shortages in rare metals like Tungsten in Germany restricted their use to industrial tools, which is why it is not available for Germans in CMBN. The PaK 38 also had its own Stielgranate, though not much is known about its actual usage, including no photos can be found anywhere. It's in the game, however.
Sakai007
http://www.battlefront.com/community/archive/index.php/t-97529.html This was discussed here before, and I knew I remembered it happening, just not the thread. A yahoo search showed this BF.com thread as the first result. Stielgranate 42 is the name of the round.

Regards, John Kettler I did post on the 50mm gun it was YD that originally brought up the 37mm gun. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stielgranate_41 This link gives information about the version designed to work with 37mm AT gun, but IIRC the 50mm version was basically the same thing. I did see your other posts mumbling aboot how difficult the sepia book was to read... John Kettler
Now that I know about it, am off to the information races. This is a good start. http://www.network54.com/Forum/47207/thread/1003801122/Stielgranate+for+5+cm. And I can't believe I missed this! Even has a diagram of the bizarre looking projectile! http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=97529&highlight=PaK38 Suspect it was during the long period when I wasn't on the Forums because my world was rebuilding my totally ruined health. We're talking 88s on Tigers not the 8.8CM FLAK 36 right?
