Abandoned tank causes panic

Recommended Posts

So... my Sherm spotted a Stu, and before it pancied, it got off a few shots that

caused the Stu to abandon. The Sherm knows that the Stu abandoned, because it could see and identify the crew. And yet it proceeded to pop smoke and reverse out of there.

I pushed it forwards (to take on inf targets) and lo and behold it spotted the abandoned Stu, and paniced again.

Dang!

This is similar to an exagerated response I saw from an airborne squad while walking past an abandoned Kubelwagen. Suddenly the satchel charges and mills bombs go flying. Troops opening up in full auto point blank. The K-wagen a smoldering heap by now, and the troops carry merrily along. You don't think we might need those satchel charges somewhere else eh sarge?

I would LOVE to see that in a youtube posting. Damn that must have been funny to watch...until you needed all those explosives.

I think the problem here is one of unit memory.

After a (short) while CM units (all versions) forget everything that they had known just a couple minutes ago.

So for this tank the process of identifying what state this StuG is in starts from scratch, with the same chance to end up misidentifying it as alive as any random other unit has.

I actually think that paranoia for tankers or any troops in wartime would be quite common. So, quite realistic that they would see Tigers and ghost tanks everywhere, and maybe that shadow moved! So, let's get outta here or blast the hell out of it...

Yeah but not the one they just brewed up and saw the crew running for the hills.
