  1. Up to 81 mm they were popular because they were easy transportable. Lots of missions can be done in the so-called direct fire mode. Have a good look always at the terrain.
  2. So do I but this would make it easier. Like making a Photoshop action. You need to split them up, the corn fields in that mission are the approach routes. @LongLeftFlank had a suggestion to make a Company size formation to advance like we do with an artillery mission. Paint an area linear or otherwise and every unit of his company would advance to that area using the correct formation.
  3. 'Meticulously' It may great more problems, experience is the best teacher when it comes to pathfinding. I like to see a record and save option for vehicles. All you need to do for vehicles A,B,C ...... Is to replay the movements of the first vehicle. Infantry is no problem they find there way anywhere.
  4. What I understand the way we play Soviet is like playing US in real life during WW2. The way we play WW2 is like the artillery support the Aussies had in Vietnam which took place 23 years after FB.
  5. I had something similar, before I start the game now I restart the computer first. Restart is different from shutting down and start the computer like we do in the morning for example. It is from some article I read it seems to have fixed this but I don't know why it is like that.
  6. You need to consider the quality of your troops. To breach you can use brute force or a Trojan Horse. Or a combination. Dismount your APC and let the vehicle advance with only the driver with a -2. This is a Trojan Horse in reverse but it has the same idea.
  7. It is basically what happened at Omaha Beach or going over the top in WW1. The more I play this game the more I come to realize it is a tactic which works. XXX Corps during the Market Garden Campaign did the same. Keep moving till you receive fire, attrition is the Queen make sure every unit you lose will be avenged two-fold.
  8. This is a training movie of the British army to motivate their units that they are better trained. The tactic here is on the same level of putting your helmet on top of the barrel of your weapon. By shaking it you hope that an enemy marksman gives his position away. Basically the Soviets in this movie do the same with their rec-platoon.
  9. Good on you we all bought the game to have fun. I like Iron because I need to spot my own units, not because it is more difficult which would be a statement which is not backed by evidence. You to the consumer has the final say how this game ought to be played.
  10. Even during a friendly competition lack of mental preparedness makes a good shooter perform at only 80 % of what he or she is capable off. This is the only game which addresses this issue.
  11. The best documentary I know and it shows the time required for medium artillery. 10 to 15 minutes watch from 24 minute mark.
  12. "Ok but I hope you understand that you won't receive a Christmascard from me this year." A British captain to his FO during the Falkland's campaign. They are not too far away from the enemy.
  13. Yes according my references mortars don't need a FDC. In the game it is all tentative compared with RL. It is how you plan the COA.
  14. This was a subjective analysis we will never know what would have happened for real. The Soviets anticipated a Barbarossa style of campaign from the West. It would have escalated very quickly to go nuclear.
  15. I think it is realistic. Once you assign a mortar to a unit for example you plot the mission in the general direction of the objective. The real mission starts during the adjustment phase and that indeed takes a matter of minutes.
  16. The UK has Bovington. Here in Australia we have the Armour and Artillery Museum.
  17. Lure & Trap works with cheap units. A conscript or green unit appears the same as a crack or elite unit. At least when you play Iron or Elite. But if you want to entice your enemy to attack you use units -2 conscript for example. The enemy may use their artillery assets on them. Our poor green conscript forces break and start running. The enemy may try a pursuit right into an ambush. It is fun to play Soviet WW 2. Bailed out of an armored car left the AFV. I have a bad conscience now of being too gamey. But a PAK 75 mm revealed its position. Better to lose an armored car than an ISU 152 . It is why a human player wouldn't fall for a ruse such as that. Conscript and Green units have their uses. A ruse starts with waving a helmet above a trench. But if you have a character such as Marshall Zhukov he may use a human wave of battalion strength just to learn the positions of his adversaries. The game is as realistic as you make it.
  18. That is what makes playing 'Iron' more easy. By selecting the AFV but not during the command phase you can see exactly which friendly units it observes. During the command phase mark your target with MG fire it makes the area fire of the AFV more realistic.
  19. Here is a nice project, maybe next year I can visit. A son helping his dad along the road. Tiger I towed by a Leo.
  20. Make sure the AFV can see the friendly infantry they don't share tentative contacts automatically.
  21. It shows the unit structure under his command when you click the blue HQ symbol which will turn red to reveal the structure. By clicking any unit in that structure it will transfer you to that unit. The 2nd Regiment window on the left has no unit because he is the Regimental HQ. We need more of this system in modern warfare we need a window which shows the optics etc. By using this system to play battalion size battles is much easier once you get used to it.
  22. What about the C&C structure and how you pass on intel from the battlefield? Russian armored units are the only ones who have radio's. Here he is in contact with his regiment. He contact the tankdesantniki company (no radio)direct 2 scouts on the engine deck of the ISU152. They are now in contact by sharing the radio of the AFV. The 57 mm of the Valentines get support from the ISU 152. I don't know how BF can improve this feature.
  23. Test it? It is a way to find out anything with this game. If you hide on the top floor you spot much better than by peeking around the corner. But not much good if you get HE lopped in your position. I found there was no advantage by peeking around a corner. The peeking on 'Hide' unit spotted a four men team approaching on the road at exactly the same time as it was spotted.
  24. I tested peeking around corners from the hide position. You will be spotted at the same time you spot the enemy while you spot the enemy approaching a long way off from inside the house.
