  1. It does that for me as well with this mod. Ok it is because like MikeyD said, the lod bmp is basically just a trunk with a couple of branches.
  2. Great mod but I got a quick question. I also deleted some backgrounds I didn't like and added a bunch. But I didn't replace the ones I deleted on a number by numer basis, I just added them at the end. Now I am only getting red backgrounds even though I have blues starting at 1. Does it matter if there are missing numbers in the list of bmps? Also how are the backgrounds that are displayed selected? Is it just random or does it cycle through them?
  3. MikeyD, good idea. I don't have CMFI at the moment though. I remember reading an update to V3 was pending an was waiting for that to put it on the shopping list. Kieme, you're right. It does work. When I first tried I saved the alpha lapha layer bmp as 24 bits only. But just bare tree trunks looks a bit odd. Probably better to do what MikeyD suggested or use the autumn mod linked by Oakheart. Quick question for modders : should I be saving all my textures as 32 bits bmp instead of 24 bits or is this just for textures with an alpha layer?
  4. Something like this maybe? This is an early draft, I got to fix the door because at the moment it is for midgets only.
  5. I would love a more wintery/autumn look, not necessarily with snow but with muddy roads and trees without leaves. Unfortunately I don't think you can do that and remove the leaves. But if use one of the CMBN autumn foliage mods, swap all the green grass for yellow one, change the crops to ploughed fields and set the scenario to rain or overcast, the effect is almost good enough. It still looks a bit too clean but it helps with the immersion.
  6. I am a huge east front fan but I am going to have to go with Black Sea. RT is a good game but I find the scope a bit frustrating, only three months is a bit too limited for me even though obviously a lot happened in this period. I haven't played all of the scenarios in RT, a third if that, but they didn't thrill me all that much. In comparison, the BS scenarios have all been top notch so far, really well crafted, interesting situations and lots of replayability. At the end of the day, it depends on what you prefer, modern or WWII, but I'd say get CMBS now and wait for RT when a module is released.
  7. I'd love to, I have been watching all these youtube vids of the fighting going on in Ukraine and it is striking how everything looks so grim and dingy but really I am a newbie modder. I don't know what else I could do. Did you have something particular in mind? Maybe some buildings but Kieme has this part well covered already.
  8. If this is accurate, it looks dangerously close to being pinched off. But then again who knows with this conflict? Both sides claim the other side is losing. I mean is to be expected but it is hard to assess who is right and who is wrong.
  9. Ideally we'd have something like that. An area on the sides of the map where the human player can't go, like some sort of out of bounds area. It would get rid of the reinforcements issue and having players hug the edge of the map with no fear of flanking fires. But this is an old question common to all wargames, don't think a perfect solution has been designed yet. Even this one idea here has probably unforeseen effects.
  10. Yes it sounds like an oversight if confirmed.
  11. Ok first of all you don't need any special program to take screenshots, you simply press the PRINT SCREEN key on your keyboard located somewhere to the right of the F12 key depending on the layout. Then you open PAINT, a very basic but free program that is bundled with every version of windows. After that, press the following shortcut : CONTROL V to paste the screenshot you just took in game into PAINT. Now select the CROP TOOL, then hold down the left mouse button and draw a square or rectangle around the area of the screenshot you want to keep. Then press the CROP button again. That will delete the area outside the rectangle you just drew. Finally, open the FILE menu at the top left of the PAINT screen and select SAVE AS to pick the format you want to pick, usually JPEG.
  12. It is a bit hard to make sense of what is going on. It seems that the separatists have captured the small town of Vuhlehirsk on the west side of the pocket and also the village of Nikishyne in the south east sector in the last two weeks. Civilians are being evacuated from Debaltseve. Are these reports accurate at all? Is this the beginning of a serious push to close the pocket, or just minor fighting to gnaw at its edges with no operational significance? Perhaps only to be in a better position at the negotiation table? What is the Ukrainian army doing? Is it elsewhere or preparing a counter offensive? Inquiring minds want to know. I don't want this to turn into a political thread, just curious about what the situation is and how it is evolving.
  13. When the UAV spots something and you click on the unit that has been identified from the air, it highlights the icon of the unit who ordered the UAV mission, as if it had a regular LOS so perhaps the observer reacts as if it was directly in sight of the target.
  14. Here you go. I have never used dropbox before, didn't realize it was free. https://www.dropbox.com/s/ciia4r7v79jvslu/Zveroboy%20fences.rar?dl=0
  15. Thanks, I got to wait for the repository or GAJ's CMBS section to open and then I'll upload them.
  16. There is another one here made for CMBN by Salok. It is in 3 parts but the trees are in the first zip. I don't know which ones is the best. http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=314&func=fileinfo&id=2508
  17. Good idea. I was thinking of simply using low quality Russians with poor equipment selected in the editor but this is going to work better.
  18. Oh thanks but the trees are from an 'autumn environment' mod for CMBN that I downloaded from GAJ's site or the repository, I can't remember which. I looked in the readme inside the zip, it was made by Salok.
  19. Uh never mind, they're 70k over the forum limit, I can't upload them.
  20. They replace the white picket fences. They're nice but I wanted something a bit grimmer. It is nothing special but it might be useful until Kieme or Juju release something better. Same resolution as the default picket fence. (Don't mind the trees, they're not from me, it is a port from CMBN, I am just working on a wintery map.) I also got these dingy run down and rusty corrugated walls that replace stone walls. Not sure whether it is worth it to upload them, I am not entirely satisfied with them. The repeat is maybe a bit too obvious and they look weird from the side or from a top down view.
  21. Personally I don't think the editor itself is that bad. There is always room for improvement obviously but I doubt this is the main issue. And actually it has come a long way since CMSF. The addition of map overlays speeds up the map making process tremendously for instance. It is just that it takes a long time and lot of dedication to finish a scenario, the whole process is very time consuming even if fiddling with the editor is actually quire fun and engrossing. And MikeyD has a point, most of the established scenario designers have been at it for close to 10 years, so they have become quite good and there is probably a feeling among aspiring or amateur designers that their scenarios aren't going to cut it or reach the same quality standard so why bother? There is also the fact that scenario making involves several different skill sets that designers don't necessarily master : the mapping itself, the AI plans are the core elements but then some people are not familiar with image editing softwares so they face a hurdle when it comes to the graphics for the briefing. Same thing for the briefing itself. Concerning the last two points though, they are not super important at all. Sure a good briefing is nice but most people don't want to read a novel, they just want enough intel about the battle and a little background info for immersion. And you don't need to have the fancy victory points or arty support panel at all. It looks neat but really it is a bit superfluous. But yes it is a bit sad to see the lack of user made scenarios compared to CM1 or even CMSF.
