  1. Yes basic Combat Mission Battle for Normandy has a "activate Market Garden" teaser in it but you have to purchase the Combat Mission Commonwealth and Market Garden modules to get the activation window to show up. I encourage you to purchase these modules as they round out the Combat Mission "Family". If you can afford only one get the Commonwealth module and explore how to effectively use the British, Canadian and Polish units. Then when your ready the Market Garden module and see what it is like to have the superbly trained and motivated paratroops. And it has some real wild and wooly combat scenarios. Also when you get this module be sure to get the Kriegsmarine uniform mod from the Repository. It has the historical uniforms for them. Then when you see them in "double button front" coats and some in white trousers you know that's the Navy troops and not a Landser (German Soldier). Also there is some great uniform mods for the British and Americans on this site as well. If you need a hand installing mods just ask. Mods are like seasoning your food. You can add as little or as much as you want to get it the way you like it. Hope this "macht deutlich", makes clear, the situation. And don't hesitate to ask any question on this forum. There is a lot of great people here who can help you out. The only dumb question is the one you do not ask. Your comrade in arms, Mech.Gato
  2. Thanks to you all for taking the time and effort to figure out my problem and provide a viable solution. I appreciate it very much. So now I understand the TO&E can be adjusted by QB to even out the battle due to points and other considerations. It does make sense now. Since this is a meeting engagement on a medium map, the scouts if equipped with Bren Carriers as per TO&E, would ride circles around the "Hermans" who are probably all straight leg infantry. So the QB adjusts for this. I see said the blind man to his deaf son as he picked up the hammer and saw. Mech.Gato Free your mind and your ass will follow
  3. I always wondered if a combat game was ever gonna pick up on the use of field telephones. In Germany there was a Tower Operator (for the targets) on a gunnery range who was in the Wehrmacht as a young teen. He said when he got to his unit in France (after being rushed through training) The senior nco had several of them saddled up with wire reels and told them he wanted them over there. He said we all took off like a bat out of hell to try and please the new senior. When they got to "there", he changed his mind and picked a new spot. He did this a few times. When finished he picked the "winners" and told them they were now the new "Drahtmaultiere" (wire mules) who would ensure the commands to which they were assigned had good phone connections. 4. In a maintenance unit you have a Technical Manual for each type of equipment. In that manual is the Mean Time Before Failure Rate Table for all critical parts. If the equipment has a weapons system then a manual covering that equipment has a Mean Rounds Before Failure Table. DD-314 is used to schedule maintenance periods for a individual (vehicle) piece of equipment. This can be regular scheduled maintenance like oil and filter change, inspection and replacement of constantly wearing parts like track and suspension, and Lifetime maintenance (critical) routines as forecast by the Mean Failure Tables. When a unit is assigned a operation, HQ's estimates a block of time for that mission. The Motor Sergeant looks at the DD-314's to see what equipment has routine services or Lifetime maintenance during that time. He then informs the commander of vehicle status and whether he can effect services before mission time. All possible effort is placed into getting the equipment mission ready. If mission time cannot be met due to lack of parts, length of time for Lifetime maintenance, etc. Then depending on before mentioned faults and situation (moving to new area or staying put) services may be started on equipment or equipment kept operational and used in a limited capacity only. The unit with the affected equipment is not included in the battle plan as equipment failure may jeopardize the operation. However remaining equipment from the unit that is serviceable may be used as reserves, security or what ever is deemed necessary. From a former Motor Sergeant and Mech Infantry Plt Sgt Mech.Gato
  5. Yes I have the 3.0 upgrade, CMMG, 2.0 upgrade and all patches. There is no "dismounted" option for a British Rifle Bn. Scenario Editor selection of same unit gives all vehicles inherit to unit. QB gives me spit for inherit vehicles. Even if I have Force Adjustment set to minus, no change or plus. Also since reinstalling the game after my PC crashed the game files are split between my "Program Files X86" and my Documents folder. This is the same for CMBN and CMRT. Is this standard for install now with 3.0 as I do not remember it being this way. My chances are slim to none, and slim just left town. Mech.Gato
  6. Take for example a QB between British mixed and German mixed. If I select a Rifle Battalion the Carrier section is missing the carriers as is the entire Battalion missing all motorized vehicles. When selecting the same formation in Scenario Editor everything is in place. Can anyone explain this reasoning to me. Who's on first, What's on second, I don't know is on third Mech.Gato
  7. Daroc might mean Motorized Transport (trucks) and Armored Fighting Vehicles. In the scenario "Facade Troops" for MG, one objective was right up a road that the "Hermans" trucked in on. After dropping off troops, the truck drivers would race up the road to occupy the objective only to loose in a game of chicken with a hail of lead directed their way. Really dumb thing for the A.I to do. So I tried changing the trucks to "Hanomags" (Sd.Kfz251) to give them a fighting chance. Well some of them dropped off troops and hung back as support while others just ran down the road fully loaded and got everyone in the vehicle B.B.Q'ed by PIAT. Yep sometimes the A.I. isn't the sharpest Cylon in the shed. Mech.Gato HAL 9000 "I'm sorry Dave, I can't do that" 2001 a Space Odyssey
  8. Thanks everyone for understanding my humorous jabs at Daroc. I was trying to deescalate a rising tension between the involved parties by the oldest trick in the book, "lookest thou over there". If anyone here watches the "Last Ship" the character of Tex is me to a "t". Used to make my seniors wonder about my abilities as a Platoon Sergeant but the men loved it. Especially in tense situations humor is a tool to break the cycle of worry and doubt going through a troopers mind. "Hey if Sarge is giving orders and cracking a few jokes about the enemy I think he has a good handle on this situation, so why am I worrying! Mech.Gato Quick, grab anything that kills! 9. Hello Daroc, I do not want to offend anyone on this forum and after taking those cheap shots in a attempt at humor it has been nagging me that I might have done just that. So this is my public apology to try and rectify this situation. Best Regards, Mech.Gato
  10. Jeffrey Paulding a retired LTC, Infantry, now with Armchair General Magazine put together a series of YouTube videos on winning in Combat Mission with realistic tactics. I encourage you to watch this series of videos as they are designed to make you aware of the combat environment and how to handle the threats it presents. And most important of all, how to handle your troops effectively. These videos are well done and resemble the the tactics classes we had in the NCO (Sergeants) Academy and Unit Level Training program. Mech.Gato
  11. Daroc discovered BF is putting fluoride in the drinking water and it is draining the essence of his manhood. Just ask his physician, Dr. Strangelove. BF denies having any such activities and reputes Daroc's flaccid accusations. Daroc, unable to rise to BF's counter-challenge due to his own dysfunctions has let BF control him. He is like Silly-Putty in their hands. Mein Fuehrer! I can walk! Mech.Gato This message approved by: President Merkin Muffley Premier Kissoff
  12. Daroc had better get his tinfoil hat ready to block the BF "mind-control/mind- reading super secret spy satellite" funded by the slush fund of $10 upgrades fed to the masses. That is how BF gathered intel on Daroc. They have a mental picture of him in the park letting the squirrels touch his nuts. BTW the spy satellite is a helium balloon with a cell phone duct taped to it. BF is cheap bastards, ask Daroc! Mech.Gato
  13. BF used Blackshades RAT to hack Daroc's webcam and have explicit images of him doing the twiddle to his diddle while playing those provocative expensive war games from Matrix. "What's that Matrix? You want me to tip $10 in gold so you can upgrade me for FREE so I can reach my 'objective'?. No problem, I'm getting something FREE. Private upgrade? What's that?":o A nephew's problems used as basis for this drama, no nephews were harmed in the making. Mech.Gato
  14. A interesting feature of the game is you can hide vehicles! They will try to not make any unnecessary movements and noise. Though not clearly simulated in the game I wonder if it involves shutting off the engine? I had a Sherman tucked up against a building in a "alley" mostly hidden from view until as you approached the tank and the street curved to the left there it was ready to light you up. You would think the sound of the engine would bounce off the alley walls and carry up the street. So this German Squad approaches and I get a sound contact from them and they just waltz down the street until they see the tank and then it's "Panzer this" and "Panzer that" but it's too late and they get chewed up by the bow gun, the coax and the "Ma-Duce" on top. So that's why I wonder if to the A.I. it's a silent tank sitting there. Mech.Gato
  15. As a WW2 buff and a 11M40J (Mechanized Infantry Platoon Sergeant and Bradley Master Gunner) I always noticed the similarities between the the two vehicles. As far as overall silhouette, height, tonnage and armor. And like the Shermans, when we went to war in Desert Storm we "up-armored" the front by the driver. We voted that we didn't want the reactive armor due to the extra weight, more horsepower in the sand without it. So we took the long bolts for the reactive armor and ran it through the openings of the spare track blocks where the drive sprocket teeth engage the track when in place, and fit them to the bolt holes on the front slope in front of the drivers position. Extra steel is nice to have In addition to that I suggested taking the cans of O.D. Green paint from our Conex shipping container and mixing it with sand and a fine limestone aggregate from a near by hill and filling sand bags for the front slope. Letting the paint ooze out of the burlap and get on the bags around it. Plus we shoveled sand on top of the bags exterior. When the stack of bags dried it was like the whole mass was glued in place and had a real good natural camouflage texture sealed on top! Plus small arms fire could tear the bag and just chip away at the contents with out it spilling out all over because it was a crude form of cement. We tried three sample bags and a 7.62mm coax on them and this was the result. This would work fine because trying to find trees for logs on the front was a bitch! Fun in the "Sand Box" Mech.Gato
  16. Since Trainz Simulator 2004 the Trainz community has enjoyed horse drawn vehicles. The horses can vary speed and the legs move accordingly. The rest of the body (neck and head) are non movable. I guess if they get shot in this game they would collapse straight downwards or fall on to their sides. Depends on what type of harness they are wearing. Now the appearance of horses on the battlefield would be rare as they were used by rear echelon support and artillery. The closest a horse team would be to a battlefield would be the infantry guns and ammo resupply wagons used by the straight leg infantry units. I would like to see LVT-4 Amtrak for the Brit's crossing the Scheldt Estuary and the flooded fields. As a Marine Corps Amtrak driver (before my Army career) I would like to see this "gator" in action. Now a couple of goodies I would like to see is a locomotive coaling tower, a water tank shed, a turntable and small roundhouse. This way we can build a realistic railyard. And most important of all rolling stock (train cars). Cars to represent the few left behind or on the RIP track (repair in place) due to some mechanical fault. The cars would be stationary and placed on the tracks like buildings and have light cover characteristics. There would be "Forty-and-Eights". French 4-wheel covered goods wagons used as freight and military transport cars. The term refers to the cars' carrying capacity, said to be 40 men or eight horses. Also some flat cars and "8 plankers", gondolas (open top car to carry coal and other bulky materials). The sides were 8 planks high, hence the name. Of course no locomotives as the Germans would not want to risk loosing one. Makes me want to watch "The Train" again. A excellent 1964 movie with Burt Lancaster as a French Rail Supervisor trying to prevent the Germans from shipping stolen French valuables back to Germany. He starts off neutral about the war but his attitude changes as he sees what the Nazis are up to. Thank you Battlefront for the railroad flavor items you have provided! Keep up the great work! I would be willing to do the skins for the freight cars for free. Should you decide to go that route. Just look what skill is listed in my signature section. Just my two cents. Mech.Gato
  17. Hello boys and girls, I am working on a rubble terrain tile. The only problems are the new tile mimics the tile it masks. So rocky or mud work best to simulate the effects of traveling over rubble. So you lose the use of that tiles original appearance in order to get the move modifiers desired. The second problem is as the rubble tile "overwrites" the surface features of that tile, any map that has the original tiles turns into rubble as soon as the mod tag is applied. So dressing up a existing map turns into a "Waldo" search for the tiles effected and replacing them. So is there a way to introduce a new ground tile into the game? Best Regards, Mech.Gato
  18. So far the only problem is the "Facade Troop" scenario in Market Garden. It worked fine until 3.0. Could be a saved game before upgrade error. However, I recently crashed my PC due to a pre-beta I'm testing. Had to reinstall everything. So I started the same scenario fresh with no saved games. Still the same problem. Using scenario editor I replaced the 3 story flat roof buildings in the scenario and now they work fine. Author design limitations? Just like I can't find the pavement they used to form the city blocks from. Little frustrated, Mech.Gato
  19. Thank you both for your hard work in this area of game modding. Tempestzzzz thanks for your ground work in getting things started. Umlaut thanks for the effort on composing a pdf on this subject. The only reason I went with converting one truck to another was to provide a solid object option. Thanks Friends! Mech.Gato
  20. It's no biggie, I'm not slamming Aris. Hell if they wanted to collect a dollar from everyone on here to buy him a trophy or medal I'd donate a twenty dollar bill! Just remember two wrongs don't make a right, but two wright's make a airplane! Mech.Gato
  21. The second time "clouds" was mentioned it clicked in my memory. I checked my Z folder and there it was. Aris Scattered Clouds Mod. I remember trying it when I first started loading mods and didn't like the effect. I also remember the cat walking on the key board when I was trying some different mods after installing 3.0. Bigs (one of the six cats we have) is a little 4-toed bastage', he's the one that crashed my modeling program when I was 3/4's of the way done modeling a locomotive. Animation, physics, and model "poof", as it totally screwed up the program I was running. Just like kids, gotta love them, cause if you abuse them the neighbors call the law on you. Thanks for all the help folks! Mech.Gato
  22. Here is a image taken in game map. This pattern covers the entire map and moves from left to right across all ground surfaces. Here is a all sand map, image is taken in 3D Preview in Editor. Any ideas? And this occurs in clear conditions so no cloud shadows. Mech.Gato
  23. Right now I'm getting a weird imaging effect were it looks like wisps of ground mist are blowing across the screen. The ground is perfectly visible as these apparitions blow across them. Ever watch the news and you can see the refresh rate on a computer monitor or wind moving across a wheat field. That is what this looks like. I have played with V-Sync and 3-D settings to no avail. It ran fine even after 3.0 upgrade and then blamo. I am running on a laptop that I play Mech-Warrior On Line (very resource intensive) with no problems and all the bells and whistles on. I can run massive CMBN battles with no problems. Mech.Gato
  24. Those are exactly the buildings I'm talking about. All I get is level 1 to 3 with no roof choice. Thanks for testing this. Mech.Gato
  25. Occupational Safety and Hazard Administration now prevents soldiers on flat roof tops? Is this due to lack of safety harness and proper anchor point? Or has this come about with 3.0 change? I have Market Garden and I like to get my snipers and AT-Teams on top of the flat top roofs but now it is a "no-go". I understand buildings with destroyed roofs having the attic blocked by debris (though this would be a great weapons vantage point). So has anybody else had this happen? Mech.Gato
