  1. No disrespect to you or the deceased was intended. On the surface my attitude towards such matters may seem flippant but it is a defense mechanism. To satisfy your quest for justice over this remark I will inform you that my life is a absolute nightmare due to combat PTSD. It destroyed my marriage, alienated me from my parents, and siblings and I have no friends whatsoever. I really do not eat or sleep much. My counselor fears that I may do something drastic to myself. If I was to cease to exist no one would notice or mourn for me. So if this statement does not meet your need for retribution then I do not know what in God's amazing universe will. "There are only two things that are infinite. The universe and mans stupidity. And I'm not so sure of the universe" Albert Einstein "I'm surrounded by assholes!" Dark Helmet, Space Balls (oh hell, there I go again, quick someone report me to the mods so they can bend my dog tags and send me to Antarctica)
  2. Man them 1930's Germans were ahead of their time. Did you see that computer nav system, the tinted windows on the top section of the cockpit. And the inflight entertainment system. Where you can listen to such popular tunes as Panzerlied and Horst-Wessel-Lied. No wonder they had rockets, jet aircraft and re-engineered UFO's by 1945.
  3. Well it looks like there is a couple of medics attached to the unit with a stretcher. That would make fourteen. And that boys and girls is a picture perfect example of WW2 applied "soft" reactive armor. Because you can bet when a Pak or Panzerfaust hits that tank those guys are going to react quickly. Plus if the fuse on the round hits a belt buckle or rifle stock and goes off then the armor will have done it's job.
  4. Wow! Thanks for doing that extensive test. I didn't think of using infantry which can change stance. I just put a destroyed truck next to a burning one and went with that. Your test is more conclusive as it uses the smallest element in the game. Once again thank you and to everyone who responded to this post for your time and efforts.
  5. How about a classic move line: "Color coded lines? Color coded lines! We don't need no stinkin' colored coded lines..." Why not do this mod in honor of two best friends. Charlie Brown and Linus Or when a platoon of units is selected all movement paths already plotted by the units is dotted. And a little sign that says what unit is using that path appears. That way we can cover the "sign on the dotted line" aspect of the game Okay, that is enough. I don't want to cross a line Make sure you guys "drop me a line" when you figure out the consensus on what line to use.
  6. Oh man that Monty Python skit is still funny as hell. Now that raises a question. Will Battlefront work the "Deadly Joke" into the next mod? Which means someone will have to calculate how many copies were distributed per Battalion. What is the rate of iteration for the phrase so we know the JPM (joke per minuet) rate. Also the effective range of the joke. And last but not least, if a enemy soldier hears only two words is his condition now rated as minor or significantly wounded?
  7. Oh hey, I like the color code idea better. Then the movement lines are different colors, and if there is say four units to a formation and only three lines of that formations color showing a movement path then you can quickly see that someone didn't get a move order. Bravo sir! I really think that would be easy to do. As long as they take into account color blind people like me and don't make the color shades too close to one another. And yes the "Acquire" process always reminds me of the British Army at The Battle of Isandlwana. The Zulus were coming in waves but the British couldn't use their advantage of firepower because they were too spread out to concentrate that firepower. And the rate of fire among the units varied constantly because the Quartermaster made the ammo runners stand in a orderly line and you had to have a issue chit signed by a officer to draw ammo. Not to forget they couldn't go through the laborious process of opening a case of ammo before it was needed because the Quartermaster didn't want the ammo exposed to the elements unnecessarily.
  8. Boy that's interesting. I'm going to have to see if I can replicate that on my end. I had a weird bug that happened a few days ago. I told a US AT Gun to pack it up and get ready to move. Well I start the turn and hear a boom. I cannot see the AT Gun from my camera position but I had a partial view of the field it was covering. And sure enough there's a round whizzing down range and it misses a Heavy Machine Gun jeep coming out of a gully by a hair. So I replayed the turn and sure enough they crank off a round and start packing up. I don't know what happened and cannot replicate the event. So I guess they decided to unload the gun the easy way or one of the guys in the jeep flipped them off and they got pissed and took a shot at them. Or maybe a couple of electrons got placed backwards through the processor.
  9. Well what I'm really asking for is when "show all moves" is on and for example, you select one squad out of a platoon, all the move paths from other units not related to that platoon stay on the map. But only the move paths already plotted by elements of that same platoon are further highlighted in a manner so you can easily see where the other units of that platoon are plotted to and use these highlighted paths to make the squad's movement path so it stays in its relative position to its place in the formation during movement.
  10. Say what do you all think about this idea that I hope would be a relatively simple addition. When having a lot of units advancing in formation sometimes the end points of movement lines blend right into the movement lines of the preceding units making it hard to tell where other units of the same platoon are stopping at so you can keep that wedge or other march formation nice and tidy. How about having the effect that when a unit of the same platoon is selected the movement lines of the other units in that platoon that have plotted a movement are highlighted at a lower intensity. It already highlights the icons of units within that organization when one is selected so this seems like the next logical step in the evolution of things.
  11. Thanks for the quick response. How do I contact the supervisor of customer relations to leave positive feedback. Anyway that is what I thought was the situation. So there is no joy in Mudville tonight. Say did you know with the 4.0 upgrade if you play a night battle and turn the sound up really high you can just hear the Germans in the background playing the Reich's official version of "Marco Polo". One German will say "Seek" and another says "Heil". Then they throw in variations such as "I'm not Goring after you. I am after Himmler", "I Heer you..." and "I Nazi anything, it's too dark out here."
  12. Okay I would like to know if I am correct on my observations that at night burning vehicles do not illuminate/reveal units around them making spotting these units easier or at a range further than weather conditions normally permit. I could not find any reference to this subject in the manual or on the forum. I tested it with clear conditions at 0300hrs and 398 meters seems to be the standard maximum distance of observation regardless of a burning vehicles area of illumination. Just want to make sure I am not missing any other parameters that I did not check while testing.
  13. Thanks for the proof read and information. I was pretty close to falling asleep when I wrote this post so my cognitive abilities were not the best. Your answers look more like what I was expecting to come up with.
  14. Anybody else notice in the opening historical footage that the one MG42 gunner in the soft cap has hair and facial features like Larry from the Three Stooges? Or is that Drei Stooges? Herr Moe Hilter (yes Mr. Hilter from Monty Python) must be at the Reichstag with Herr Curly Goring, keeping the Taube Schadel (numb skulls) in line.
  15. For those of you create your own maps here is some info on typical French farms in the 1940's. What type of farms, where the farmers lived in both Normandy and outside of that region, and size of a farm. I did the math. 20 Hectare average size for a farm is 200,000 square meters and divided by 10 meters (which I understand is one tile) for a action section equals 20,000 of those. Feel free to correct me if my understanding is incorrect. https://books.google.com/books?id=wQlCGi0L0zAC&pg=PA93&lpg=PA93&dq=average+farm+size+in+france+1944&source=bl&ots=td6I8MvmW8&sig=-oJYwRNoI8jT8iKrAGc8CREu1Z0&hl=en&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwj65N7M_6TSAhUDz2MKHaSrAbIQ6AEINjAF#v=onepage&q=average farm size in france 1944&f=false Best Regards, Mech.Gato
  16. Hey John, Welcome to the world of war gaming! This is a interest that pays you back in knowledge and fun. Knowledge of the different vehicles and weapons and the way they effect the tactics used, Fun as in actually seeing M4's and Mk IV's rolling around the terrain as a historically and technically correct representation of a WW2 battle unfolds before you. If you need a helping hand with the different troop formations and equipment in CMBN and how they were used in real life I am a WW2 buff who is available to help answer questions. And I firmly believe there is no stupid question. The only dumb question is the one you want to ask but you fail to do so. All of the members here are still learning new facts and they are very helpful in sharing their knowledge. If you like I can give you my e-mail in a private message so you can reach me directly. Also here is a series of how-to videos by Lt. Col. (ret) Jeffrey Paulding. He draws upon his 11 years as an active-duty infantry officer in the U.S. Army and a quarter-century of experience with computer wargames to help you maximize your tactical skills in Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy. http://www.armchairgeneral.com/combat-mission-battle-for-normandy-tactics-a-video-series
  17. Wow great observations Erwin. That helped me put into words the "political" feeling of the film. Yes it felt like it turned into a propaganda piece, and the ending? Was Hitler alive after the war as he was talking in a lot of "past tense" sentences? And was he under the care of the allies or may be a secret organization. A organization with the agenda of destroying Russia once and for all? Putin it mildly (pun intended) the end seemed like a cautionary warning against becoming too friendly with the west with a rally call to the banner of Mother Russia.
  18. Ah, resupply. The Achilles heel of every army. In Desert Storm the M1 tankers got to fuel up first then the Bradley's and last the wheeled vehicles. Used to piss me off that the Army had accepted such a fuel hungry beast as the M1 tank. Sure we had more fuel left over from the last refuel but you never knew if they were going to push you farther than planned and knowing the refuel tankers were already pushing their limits didn't help either. I know that the tankers would be mighty nervous if the Bradley's ran out of fuel and the infantry, "portable tank safety system", was not there to screen the enemy defensive lines. I am looking forward to the Army's proposal to refit the M1 which includes a new more efficient power plant. Yes the lessons of A-stan and Iraq are finally sinking in. Fuel Convoys are vulnerable targets.
  19. Agreed, the ending is very out of context. And what the heck is that German tank? A ghostly conjuring of the Reich's dabbling in the occult? Reminds me of my favorite WW2 comic, The Haunted Tank. Where a decedent of Jeb Stuart is a M5A1 commander and Stuarts ghost watches over him and his tank.
  20. After barely surviving a battle with a mysterious, ghostly-white Tiger tank, Red Army Sergeant Ivan Naydenov becomes obsessed with hunting it down. Yes this is basically "Moby Dick" during the Great Patriotic War. The only thing known about the Tiger is it is a unique one of a kind improved model. One interesting thing is the movies main musical theme is a variation of Wagner's "Dawn and Siegfried's Rhine Journey" from "Gotterdammerung". Very Teutonic theme for a Russian made movie. And yes, this is in Russian but is English subtitled. All in all a enjoyable film. But the action scenes are well done. Below is the link.
  21. I am greatly disappointed in the public's apparent apathy about this momentous date and the complete lack of knowledge by High School age teenagers as to what occurred this day. I did a career in the military. I have been on the "two-way rifle range" which during the course of events involved a full on ambush with AT-guns by Iraqi forces. Along with other "fun" activities with the Bad Guys. So I have gone through my level of hell but it cannot compete with what they went through. With the fate of the free world hanging in the balance, their fortitude, courage and character carried the day. As they gave so much why is it that today's society gives so little regard. This is similar to a old joke that goes like: A teacher asked a student if he was both apathetic and stupid. The student replied "I don't know and I don't care". Unfortunately, except for those who frequent this forum, that seems to characterize most of the people in today's America. "We the people" takes on a sad tone under this banner they are rallying to.
  22. O.k. I did some research into how big a power plant is needed to produce 25 megawatts. The link is a GE power plant. Notice it does not include a diagram of the entire system to include the intake and exhaust ducting, the geared power transfer system and lube oil system, generator and fuel systems for the generator. Further research did not reveal any further helpful diagrams but several photos show that the primary generator components fit into a something the size of a 63ft Conex. Maybe another four containers. Two for additional components and two for dual fuel tanks to power a gas turbine. So maybe this thing is feasible after all. But that power generator fully assembled will take up a whole lot of room. Also to keep it up for instant action will require dedicated man hours and prove to be maintenance and cost intensive. http://www.geaviation.com/engines/docs/marine/datasheet-25mw.pdf
  23. Wow sounds great! Thanks for the post buddy! I really like the interview idea. Talking with the people who make the products helps explain their concept of the game and what future developments may be in the offing.
  24. >>Murphy's Laws of Darwinism: Common sense isn't common. >>“Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.” Albert Einstein >>Three statement that will land you in the Emergency Room. 1) "based on my knowledge" 2) "based on my experience" 3) "watch this..."
  25. Man, I remember when lasers were science fiction. Now they are cat toys. I am certainly no naval expert having been only a Master Gunner on the Bradley Fighting Vehicle. So this is just my two cents based on my overall knowledge of things. I see four limitations on this weapons system. One is the size of the components. A 25 Megawatt power plant has to be pretty big and what is going to power that plant? Nuclear? How about the size of the barrel and the trunnion? That thing looks like the love child of 16 and 8 inch naval guns. That added with the power plant is going to require a bit of ship redesign to put that 3lbs of apples into a 1lbs container. And we haven't even added in the weight of protective armor for the power plant and wiring. Two is changeability of damaged components. That gun is just a paper weight without that power plant and its wiring. How much ready access will there be to the components that need to be repaired or swapped out. Will it require a dry dock and cutting into the hull? Or will they be forward thinking and make it modular with access from top deck level like the weapons systems for the Littoral Combat Ships. Three is reload time. How long will it take to load a new projectile and the power plant to be ready? The description in the video it says it requires a 25 Megawatt power plant but does not disclose if that nominal power output is sufficient to discharge the weapon. Another thought is that a power plant of that size is needed to recharge capacitors which combined have a greater power output. Charging capacitors will definitely affect reload time. Four is electromagnetic signature. When that gun fires will it produce a signature visible to the enemy? That signature could then be used to mark that ship as a priority target to remove the advantage of such a weapons system. The navies of our adversaries have ships that are designed to swarm targets with "fire and forget" missile barrages. How effective will this weapon be at destroying a multitude of rapidly closing targets.
