Maybe a taller than a tank crop, too (like hops,

Sadly no hop gardens in Normandy, and it would be the wrong season for the Battle of the Bulge.

I did once find hops growing wildly in a village not far from Hell's Highway but I don't think that would warrant their inclusion in the game.

  2. The most recent event I was describing took place in the Ciemne mission, although I have had a couple of double hits in the past. In this case it was two half-tracks that had just had the infantry dismount. So they were side on to the tank, very close to one another, and of course stationary. I can't remember exactly how far away the T34 was, but the joint explosions killed or wounded most of the dismounted troops. I was NOT happy.

  3. Just to confuse people some refer to all fields growing cereals as corn fields, whilst others only use it to describe maize fields. So those Limeys might be walking through a field of wheat, but to them they are in a corn field.

Of course, it they tried it at home, there would be someone yelling "Get orf, my land".

Some building issues got fixed but the problems can remain 'baked into' old maps. I recall on rare occasion scenario designers would get orders to open our maps, remove the offending building, replace it with a fresh building and resave. I haven't seen that request for a long time, though.

It would take a fair bit of work to weed out all of the problematic buildings, I wouldn't envy anyone with the task.

  5. I feel your pain. Sometimes doors are rendered impassable because of slight changes in elevation. This occurs quite a lot in Final Blitzkrieg, as has been pointed out in other threads..

Also, some of the buildings introduced in Market-Garden had a problem with troops entering through the side of the building rather than the front or back door, this was then ported over to Final Blitzkrieg. As you mentioned it is a particular problem on the Aachen map as rather than being detached houses, they have been set into rows alongside the new FB building types, and therefore, the player has no idea which door the troops will end up being able to use.

Sadly, I don't think that the problem can be fixed using the current engine, unless scenario designers want to re-visit their work and remove the problematical buildings and post a new version of their campaigns or battles for us to destroy.

  6. Nice pictures Wicky. There are still a few pillboxes in my home town covering the Medway. When I was a kid there were still conical dragons teeth by the main bridge. Unlike the standard pyramid shaped variety these had a hole running through them, so that the Home Guard could insert a poll and then run them out into the middle of the road, before taking cover. And would have filled the car sized gaps shown in this ....
