i remember one of Ithikial's Normandy videos where he used building demolition to expose hidden enemy tanks, to very good effect.

Sadly both your Limeys and your Germans are falling victim to a bug introduced with Engine 4. It has been patched successfully in all titles except CMBN because of the different terrain. Hopefully it will get fixed eventually.

They escaped death by... dying?
Not quite. They escaped beheading, a fate the befell some of Mad Addy and Joey Gob****e's victims.

No problem, though Wart may like the Alice in Wonderland ride with the Queen of Hearts yelling "off with their heads" !
I prefer Jefferson Airplane's "off with her head". Sadly, both Eva the Airhead and Mad Magda escaped that particular fate.

@Seedorf81 Sure thing, Clarence (obscure Association Football reference) providing you take your holidays in Overloon, along Hell'e Highway, or on Texel, I'm sure we'd all like to see them.

Although perhaps he does have a point. There is a Metro station in Paris called "Stalingrad".

So that would be the 1814 version?

@Der Kommisar It's always good to see a photo that I've not seen before. Nice one.

The 32-pounder was 94mm. But he might have gotten a bit confused.

I think there were holdouts. I still recall back in the 1970's serving beside an officer from the Royal Tank Regiment in liaison with a US Army tank battalion who often called the M-60 tank's 105mm main gun a 25 pounder.
That is interesting, thanks for that. I quite like "holdouts" of a slightly different kind, i.e. continental street traders who still speak in pre-kilo terms "livres" "pond" etc

Why never again?
I just didn't enjoy it. Not a "nightmare", but not my idea of fun either.

Well you know how hidebound the British are about traditions. They couldn't completely let go of them.

Hahahaha. I have tried a bit of my own research, it looks like we carried on using "pounder"for tank and AT guns through the late 40's and 50's, and finally caught up with the rest of the world in 1959.

Enemy icons off makes any low visibility scenario an absolute nightmare to play.
I tried it once, never again. But, each to their own I suppose.

More like grandaddy. My dear prodigal son is 50mm.
And there was me hoping that you would name him 6-pounder.

It seems to have had its origins in naval canons during the Age of Sail. Perhaps it was easier to accurately cast canon balls by weight than by diameter. The same system of measurement was also used for army canon, although these were by and large much smaller and lighter. I suppose on land portability was valued above the ability to smash down walls after the end of the 17th. century or thereabouts.
Michael
There seems to be a misunderstanding of my question. I know why "pounder" was used in the first place, it was even used on the continent into the 19th Century. What I can't fathom is why in the UK it continued to be used for just a handful of guns after everything else, mortars, howitzers, naval guns etc had switched to either inches or mm.

Thanks for that piece. An interesting read. The local motor works in my home town here in Limeyland was owned by GM but they shut it down in the mid 70's.
I once knew a couple, who have sadly broken up, she had lived in Flint and he was from Cadillac, they were both musicians, and I doubt if either of them played CM. Ho hum.

I've never quite understood why we carried on using "pounder" for a handful of guns, whilst almost everything else was designated in "inches". Hopefully someone can shed some light on this.
And thanks again to 17-pounder aka @76mm for taking my banter in good spirit.

I enjoyed the little break to tell us about your hometown's industrial relations history.

Yea, I recall Warts 'n All jumping down some dudes throat in a discussion about captured equipment because he made a youtube video he didn't like? SOmething like that, I don't tend to follow Combat Mission's social media scene. And unlike this current thread it was a pretty interesting topic until it got derailed.
I don't recall ever jumping down a dude's throat. I'm not that athletic. And if I had done, I'm sure the old bill would have done me for assault.

Feel free, although if you do I might not realize that you're referring to me...I have a short memory. And I always wondered what the heck a 17-pounder was anyway...
Hahahaha.. Nice one.

Fair enough,. although as mentioned the fact is that there are plenty of fanbois on this forum, and the poster in question simply noted their existence without labeling anyone as such, so I'm not sure who would have objected, especially to the extent of, for instance, drawing-and-quartering or other medieval tortures.
17-pounder, I hope you don't mind if I call you that, as it has a far nicer ring to it. The picture was a joke, and just for the record not even my local Mayor who signed the death warrant wanted Chas Stewart Number One to suffer drawing and quartering, just having his napper taken off.
To be honest I'd never encountered the childishly abusive non-word "fanboi" before I saw it being used in here about the time Final Blitzkrieg was released.

Although you may be biologically inaccurate in your terminology, I don't think that you should be banned. In the meantime perhaps my fellow redhead will learn how to be grateful.
