  1. I tried it once, never again. But, each to their own I suppose.
  2. There seems to be a misunderstanding of my question. I know why "pounder" was used in the first place, it was even used on the continent into the 19th Century. What I can't fathom is why in the UK it continued to be used for just a handful of guns after everything else, mortars, howitzers, naval guns etc had switched to either inches or mm.
  3. Thanks for that piece. An interesting read. The local motor works in my home town here in Limeyland was owned by GM but they shut it down in the mid 70's. I once knew a couple, who have sadly broken up, she had lived in Flint and he was from Cadillac, they were both musicians, and I doubt if either of them played CM. Ho hum.
  4. I've never quite understood why we carried on using "pounder" for a handful of guns, whilst almost everything else was designated in "inches". Hopefully someone can shed some light on this. And thanks again to 17-pounder aka @76mm for taking my banter in good spirit.
  5. I enjoyed the little break to tell us about your hometown's industrial relations history.
  6. Hahahahahahahahaha ... For those times when "Lol" just doesn't do it justice.
  7. I don't recall ever jumping down a dude's throat. I'm not that athletic. And if I had done, I'm sure the old bill would have done me for assault.
  8. 17-pounder, I hope you don't mind if I call you that, as it has a far nicer ring to it. The picture was a joke, and just for the record not even my local Mayor who signed the death warrant wanted Chas Stewart Number One to suffer drawing and quartering, just having his napper taken off. To be honest I'd never encountered the childishly abusive non-word "fanboi" before I saw it being used in here about the time Final Blitzkrieg was released.
  9. I am speaking for myself. I'm not an f-b although other people might be happy with the label. I merely suggested that name calling isn't the best way to begin a post that you want people to read and agree with.
  10. Always best not to refer to fellow forumites as f-b's if you want a fair hearing. It can only end badly. Also, there are no "Operations" in CMx2. They featured in CMx1 and were replaced by "Campaigns" a different beast altogether.
  11. There have been quite few threads about it. So I wouldn't blame yourself.
  12. Hahaha. Might have to try that sometime, but only as a last resort. Normally just giving the team they belong to a halt order works for me.
  13. Sadly your average "Para" didn't "rock" during WW2. They listened to Vera Lynn and other such pap. Although it would be nice to think that some of them got their hands on Basie, Lester Young, and Lady Day on V-disc.
  14. Going back through my records. I noticed that I played it on Iron when I first bought CMFI, although I was probably following the manual too. It was certainly a lot of fun playing again after some years. @c3k I hope that you go on and get a good result. You're Shermans are doing better than mine.
  15. Regan gives Carter a withering look, "You mean there's a jerk inna Merc."
  16. You get both. Unfortunately for myself, my off map arty drove one of the PzIVs to retreat out of sight, and end up right in the middle of the woods that make up one of the objectives. Which of course I only found out when it blasted my attacking troops.
  17. "'ear wot? Not that bloody Lanc Gracie Fields? Can't stand 'er."
  18. With regards to CMFI, it is my least favourite title so I haven't bothered upgrading even to engine 3. I know that lots of fellow forumites are big fans, especially because of the wider range of vehicles. But, I'm not really taken with the mountainous terrain, so that is why I play it the least. I do like some of the features that came with Engine 4 especially the ability to merge teams that have taken casualties in a campaign.
  19. Perhaps I should have mentioned that I am still running Fortress Italy on the original engine, sorry for any confusion.
  20. Ah diddums. If that's a pain, try playing the game whilst suffering from chronic arthritis.
  21. I suppose videos are like the game itself, we all have our own way of playing it, and viewing it. For every QBer there is a campaigner, and for every RTer there is a WEGOer. I loved CMx1 and played it for years. Then when my old dad died I didn't do any gaming for about three and a half years. I only found out about CMx2 via the Armchair General videos. And the first "mission" video I watched was a 2 hour 40 minute "Roadblock" affair produced by someone called "The Games Pusher", and that is what got me back into gaming. Since then I've always enjoyed watching people plan their moves, and explain the reasons for what they are doing. Although I would agree with what has been said above, when video makers zoom the camera all over the battlefield during the replay phrase it is very irritating.
