I'm not sure how many of the Kriegsmarine who took part in the Market-Garden fighting would have been fit for " sailing on the high seas". I think that most of them were trainees and based at Royal Netherlands Naval Schools that the Nazis had taken over. There were obviously some officers, and guard detachments, who were happy to "see action", but I suspect that most of the fighting was done by relative youngsters who wished that their training was happening back in Kiel, Wilhelmshaven, or wherever, back in Germany.

Noted... even sounder advice. Thanks.

Rocketman beat me to it. I was also going to suggest watching and saving Proambulator's videos if you are a regular youtube viewer. He is very good at explaining what is happening on screen both in his AARs and in his scenario design videos.

@ Holien ... Sound advice. It didn't occur to me to blast holes for my vehicles to move through using the Sexton's ammo. Perhaps I was too busy laying down smoke.

I played this scenario about a month or so ago. A beautiful looking map, and a really interesting battle to fight.
I played against the A.I. Firstly as the Germans, and managed a "Major Victory" without losing any of my tanks, and not too many infantry. That was a pleasant surprise.
As the British I only got a "Draw". I used a hell of a lot of smoke to cover my withdrawal and kept my fingers crossed that the A.I. would advance fairly slowly. I found the biggest problem to be just keeping my vehicles moving along those tight little lanes. it will probably be quite some time before I play again. That gives me time to work on my traffic management skills.

I'm well impressed with this.

When I played this campaign, I suffered 3 defeats, got 2 draws and only managed to win one mission "Hells Highway", and that was only a Minor Victory, and yet when the campaign finished it ended as a "Draw". I was expecting some kind of defeat, so was pleasantly surprised.

Just to clarify... 66mm HE.. are rifle grenades.... 60mm HEAT.. are bazooka rounds.

It certainly looks like you put a hell of a lot of effort into your work. It is nice to know that your mods will be updated at some time in the future. I for one don't mind waiting.

It has always puzzled me why I only get Scottish divisional insignia on vehicles and not on the infantry uniforms. Shame they've not been upgraded to v2 and beyond, as the screenshots that I've seen look great.

I'm not sure quite what is causing that. Having satchel charges should not make a difference, given the fact that Engineer Platoon HQs have a "Mark Mines" command button and never carry satchel charges. You might need to do some more tests to find the cause.

A work of art, Jorge.

I think one of the problems with the recent crop of Hollywood war movies, is that the ad-men are trying to pass them off as "Real". And whilst the equipment being used might be, or look, more authentic, the story lines are often no different from the movies made in the 50's, 60's or whenever. Of course, some people just want to be entertained, and that is fair enough. But if you want realism, don't go looking to Hollywood to give it to you.
And that works for CM too. If you want fictional scenarios, or scenarios based on movies, you can create them and enjoy them. In the meantime boring old farts like myself can enjoy the historical scenarios. That is the beauty of this great game, there is something for all of us to enjoy... even when we get beat.

Just bear in mind the fact that the German campaign in Market Garden is different to all the other campaigns, both Axis and Allied, that come with CMx2 in that the "missions" are pretty much taking place at the same time, and therefore, the player doesn't have any "core units" that go on to fight other missions. So in that regard casualties are treated more like a standalone battle than they are in most campaigns.
-
That is a good point. I learnt the hard way that blasting alongside a natural break doesn't create a wider gap.
-
I'll bear those things in mind, womble, the next time I give it a go.
-
I don't mind admitting to taking a bit of a beating in the first mission. The buildings tended not to suffer much in the way of damage no matter how much of a pounding I gave them. And the paras cut my troops up when I tried storming their positions. I suffered a Tactical Defeat.

Gobsmacked!
I got something right. Doesn't mean that the AI won't give me a stuffing in my next battle.
-
No offence taken. It was the only idea that I could come up with given the fact that there doesn't seem to be a location marked "FO" on the map.
-
I've not fought "Frosty Welcome" yet. But, this kind of behaviour has cropped up in some of the other MG scenarios. In some cases you might need to tweak the map a little bit. In other cases you might just need to make sure that you don't end a "Move" command actually under the bridge.
There are some other threads on the forum dealing with this subject, so you could do a little search to find more info.
-
I assumed it to mean that I had to keep my FO team alive and still in the same position that they were in at the start of the battle. Perhaps the scenario designer had something else in mind, I was just glad to score a "Minor Victory" when I played it as the Axis.

You can have the manual open and play the game on top of it. Then use 'Alt' and 'Tab' if you need to refer to the manual whilst playing. I sometimes have things like the Rank Insignia tables open beneath the game, comes in handy with my rubbish memory when I want to know who I'm sending to his death.

Perhaps I'm showing my age. But, someone who studies History and smokes a bit of grass is alright in my book.
Accuracy of Walls, Doors, and Windows in Buildings

I agree with sburke about #3, it certainly looks like a barn. I pays to to bear in mind, particularly with farm buildings, that holes caused by age or weather, or even made in the walls or roof tiles by their defenders will not be big enough to show up on screen, unlike holes caused during the course of your battle by heavy weapons.
