  1. Attacking T-34s with SPWs successfully does denote tactical skill if no better weapon systems are available, or at least it denotes a lack of tactical skill of the commander of the T-34s. The german Stummel SPW for example was quite capable. While certainly not sufficiently armoured for battling medium tanks such as the T-34, the HEAT ammunition for the short 7,5 cm gun was capable of reliably penetrating the side armour of the T-34. I ve used Stummel SPWs very sucessfully in ambushes in Normandy against american Sherman tanks.
  2. Isnt that the 'Barkmanns Corner' scenario?
  3. A good monitor greatly enhances the experience of any visually intesive application such as a game, i d say. I couldnt believe my eyes when i fired up CM the first time after i had plugged in the new HD widescreen i bought to replace my 10 years old 4:3 screen.
  4. Havent heard of that yet - are you talking about those newly raised national guard units? If yes, what makes you think that they are from the US? Any sources? To me it seems quite authentical that, given a situation were Ukrainian territorial integrity is threatened by an enemy several times stronger than the Ukrainian regular forces, the government in Kiev starts to raise militias to strenghen their defenses. Many other governments have done so before in similar situations.
  5. Maybe the scenario ended before all reinforcements had arrived.
  6. Certainly there must have been lots and lots of small engagements. Isnt a battle just a summary of many small fights?
  7. I havent bought CMRT yet - how big are the german campaign missions? From all i ve heard about them it sounds like multi-battallion sized combined arms groups slugging it out on fairly open terrain, something that sounds quite nice to me. I like huge battles on huge maps .
  8. Adding nasty surprises to a scenario by means of providing incorrect or incomplete intel in the briefing is kind of a two sided sword from the scenario designers point of view. On the one hand, players might easily be frustrated if their carefully thought up plan falls apart within a matter seconds. On the other hand, the most exciting and interesting battles i ve ever played were those with nasty surprises in them. I remember one battle in particular where the designer told me in the briefing that only a very few retreating and beaten up enemy units are ahead of my formation and that i am basically supposed to only reach the other edge of the map without taking casualties. So i advanced along the main road with my vehicles in a colum formation and my infantry mounted, only having small recon parties approximately 100 meters to the sides and 200 meters in front of my formation. 20 minuts into battle, my forward recon element was annihilated along with the the tip of my column by a nightly enemy couter attack of at least a company of armour and another company of infantry. What ensued after this extremly nasty surprise was one of the most exciting, chaotic and challenging defensive battles i ve ever fought. I wasnt prepared for this and caught completely by surprise. It was a lot of fun and a great challenge to organize my units from a useless march colum into a defensive posture suitable for fighting a superior enemy within less then 5 minutes.
  9. Frank, sburke is incorrect i believe. Although i havent tried it myself yet, i think i remember from reading the CMSF editor manual that if you bake the scenario you are able to directly issue orders (waypoints, target etc) to AI units. The disadvantatge of using this technique though is that the AI units will always follow the very same movement path each time the scenario is played and that the baked scenario cant be edited anymore after baking (unless of course you made a back up of the un-baked scenario file). I think you can combine bakeing and conventional AI orders.
  10. Ukraine is frighteningly close. A new major war in Europe would be the last thing we would need in these times of economic trouble. Judging from what i ve read in todays newspapers, i am quite sure that Russia will annex at least parts of eastern Ukraine as well. There were already reports of troops in russian uniforms and with russian equipment operating in Donezk. Anyways, i cant wait to slug it out with russian tanks as soon as Black Sea is released! It is the battlefront game i am currentl waiting for most.
  11. Isnt that exactly what the reverse command does Mr.X?
  12. In 1944 the Germans were already in a position where they were forced throw everything at the enemy they could get their hands on. The sad climax of this necessity was reached when in 1945 old men and children were assigned to a job that not even the elite of the Wehrmacht had been able to accomplish earlier in the war.
  13. kendar those screenshots are excellent, especially number 2.
  14. If my memory is correct, there is an active protection system in CM:A. It is called Drozd. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drozd
  15. Without question religiously motivated female oppression must be fought.
  16. So the easiest thing for CMSF 2 would be to have a faction of female islamist fighters in burkas. No textures except dark black are needed, not movement animations for arms, legs or facial expressions as well. They would also be perfectly camouflaged in urban terrain:
  17. One of best features of ARMA is the editor, or to be more accruate, the in-built script language. It gives scenario designers a great fleixbility, never surpassed by any other level editor i have used.
  18. Oh my god, i havent posted in 1337sp34k for years.
  19. Crackers were part of the Wehrmachts so called Halbe Eiserne Ration, a ration wich was always carried by the soldiers in their gear. The Jarlsberg cheese, cigars, ice tea and patio were unfortunately not inculded.
  20. Then dont buy it. I cant see the problem.
  21. So, in the context of this thread, you just compared her to a computer game and said that she is totally worth the money you spend on her. I am not sure if you would want her to read that .
  22. Probably the Jagdtiger was to rare to be part of CM: Date/Number produced: February 1944/2 July 1944/3 August 1944/3 September 1944/8 October 1944/9 November 1944/6 December 1944/20 January 1945/10 February 1945/13 March 1945/3 April 1945/7 May 1945/4 Total produced: 78
  23. Aww, that is awesome! I have been asking myself since i heard that there will be hit decals in CMRT if there is a limit for them or if they just disappear after a certain amount of hits.
