  1. You should also check out GreenAsJade's Combat Mission Mods Warehouse: http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/ It has a much more user-friendly interface, IMO. Beyond that, what exactly are you looking for? Skins?
  2. There's also Paint.net if you're using Windows. Not a bad free program.
  3. Cherry picking your favorites is definitely the way to go, even though it takes a long time. I've even made a few of my own by extracting audio from videos.
  4. Save will create a GIMP project file, which includes all layers and things like that. Export is what you want to use to make a .bmp file. If you're working directly on a .bmp file you've opened, there's an option to overwrite it next to Export.
  5. As I said, it's definitely a quirk with GIMP, but dumping GIMP over this is overkill, IMO. GIMP is really good and getting better all the time.
  6. FWIW, it happens all the time with the OSX version of GIMP. I should try using the Windows and Linux versions of GIMP and see if I still get the blue-effect. What version of GIMP are you using, Vincenzo?
  7. I'm 100% positive this is a quirk of the color mechanism in GIMP. Whenever I use GIMP I get exactly the same result; some of the colors are blue-green. It's simple to fix. Just open the images with another editing program, make an insignificant change to the color, then resave. I have a 10-year-old version of Photoshop I use for this.
  8. I agree 100% with this suggestion. I'd actually like to be able to control the spacing of the staggered troops using an arc like the firing arc commands have. You could drag an arc across an area of terrain (a woods, for example) and the troops would fan out and advance cautiously to the edge of the arc.
  9. It's just as gamey for the defender to use the map edges, since it eliminates potential attacks from a substantial arc.
  10. We really need more information but this would be my first guess. When the game engine was updated to 2.0 many of the textures were re-named, so many of the older pre- version 2.0 mods won't work (not without tweaking, anyway). There are lots of mods like this in the archives, especially uniforms and helmets.
  11. Maybe we should brainstorm some ideas for getting rid of or hiding that big green swath. I'm thinking...
  12. I like it. You can never have too many different Pumas.
  13. As a nation they seem to have a obsession with Conan O'Brien.
  14. If I were out in the field with one of those giant yellow schlongs, I'd certainly try to find some green paint to splash on it! The next logical question is, are there any pictures of camo panzerfausts? I haven't seen that.
  15. You can find examples easily enough on the net. When you see the pictures it's very obvious it's the same paint that was used on helmets and guns and whatnot.
  16. I've seen several pictures of museum 'schrecks with camo. They look very similar to the common three-color painted helmets.
  17. Looks good. I'll give it a try, as I often use Marders.
  18. I always advise new players to take the time to set up/familiarize themselves with the camera controls. That was really the biggest hurdle for me in the beginning. A comfortable configuration for you will depend on what your tastes and personal setup are like. Once you break through the camera controls they become very natural and easy to use, and the rest of the game will come to life.
  19. I love watching those slow 7.5cm IG rounds float through the air. They seem to take forever to reach their target. FWIW, I've successfully used the 7.5cm IG for indirect fire on a couple of occasions.
  20. I've created my own medley of helmets, including several of yours, Saferight. The only criticism I have is that a few of them (generally among the "painted" ones, as far as I can tell) have glare along the line where the two halves merge, which creates a stripe down the middle when you see them in-game. Just something to keep an eye on. Otherwise they look great. I just downloaded the new FJ set.
  21. The way you dropped the shadows of the chicken wire on some of the helmets is nice. Really makes it look like it's off the surface of the metal, which in turn gives the illusion of shape to the helmet. If you wanted to try something bigger, I'd stay relatively simple to start with. A small field gun like the 7.5cm IG could be a good place to start, or even just a mortar tube. See how it goes. Personally I find normals to be a bit of a chore to make (plus it's a waste of time until you're absolutely sure you're done with the texture, since changing the texture often means redoing the normal), but there's no question they can look very nice.
  22. Are you sure it works with Luftwaffe troops? I'll check again but I'm pretty sure I've seen it not working with LW infantry.
  23. To be more precise about what I said earlier, the LW Jaeger Battalion HQ unit currently has no officer textures.
  24. That's a very effective strategy. He got a commendation for original thinking.
  25. I've noticed that normal maps do make a significant difference for helmets, especially for the chicken wire types. I just had a thought: maybe the normals could be released as a separate download. Some folks might not want or care about them. I don't know whether that's a good idea or not, but I've been wondering how to handle normals for download myself, since they could potentially double the size of the package.
