  1. Yes, you have to manually swap and change all mod's pre-scenario launch. Things like ez_uniforms, Mord&DC portraits, and such unit specific mod's you choose to use. Yes again. I've thought about that too and think I would like it as well. However, one problem I foresee is that the player would likely have to go through a long and tedious GUI checklist for all that stuff desired for a battle before the game loads your scenario. Pre-game config is always a headache. Good luck and good gaming.
  2. @mjkerner - check your PM and email. I think I figured it out. It seems the solution to everything mod'ish is "do what Aris does"! I'll explain if you can successfully test my fix!
  3. @Chazz Ulric, It is easy enough if you're comfortable copying and renaming files within directories and sequencing them correctly. It's just tedious to rename all the Khaki and Olive Drab uniform files for three dozen US Infantry Divisions. The really hard part is getting non-caucasion skins to work for the 92nd ID, 100th IR, and 442nd RCT because I have yet to succeed at that! For all the other Infantry Divisions, bring up your legacy (version_1) file for ez's mod with mjk's patches and do the following: 1) Always, always, always (did I say "always") make a backup of your version_1 mod "ez" patched uniform mod file. I know of no one who ever complained from having too many backups but have heard howling curses from those who didn't have any! 2) Create a new work file folder where you will copy and rename the files below. 3) For helmets, identify which helmet.bmp file has the division patch on the plain steel version and which has the camouflage netted version. For this example, let's assume us-helmet-m1.bmp is the plain "patched" helmet, and that us-helmet-m1 3.bmp is the "patched" helmet with netting. (Note - that is not always the case, so always check first.) RENAME us-helmet-m1.bmp TO smod_amercan_helmet-solder.bmp (this is the plain steel helmet map.) RENAME us-helmet-m1 3.bmp TO smod_amercan_helmet-solder 2.bmp (this is the camouflage netted helmet map.) (Note - version_2 helment file names combine both underscores "_" and a dash "-" in the file name.) 4) For uniforms, you'll need to make four (4) version_2 files from the three (3) ez version_1 files. Typically, pick the one you think should be most prevalent in your "patched" unit. In this example, lets use us-soldier-uniform 1.bmp as the duplicate. RENAME us-soldier-uniform 1.bmp TO smod_american_m41_uniform.bmp RENAME us-soldier-uniform 1.bmp TO smod_american_m41_uniform 1.bmp RENAME us-soldier-uniform 2.bmp TO smod_american_m41_uniform 2.bmp RENAME us-soldier-uniform 3.bmp TO smod_american_m41_uniform 3.bmp (Note - version_2 uniform file names use only underscores "_" in the file name.) 5) Create a "zz_unit_ID_uniform-type (khaki or OD)" folder 6) Copy all six (6) renamed version_2 files into that folder 7) Copy that new "zz_unit_ID_uniform-type (khaki or OD)" into your "Battlefront / Combat Mission Battle for Normandy / Data / Z" directory. Start the game , load your scenario, and inspect your pixeltruppen. If you renamed all files correctly, they will be in proper uniforms and ready for action. If they are not, check your work and fix your error(s). When you finally get them right, try not to get them all killed! Good luck and good gaming.
  4. @mjkerner, 1) You're welcome. I was happy to do it. 2) Aaargh! Either we are both remarkably stupid (which I don't believe to be the case even though we are a pair of Wisconsin Cheeseheads) or it is a really arcane solution which is beyond what we both can see. When the CM developers finish all their GL activities, maybe one of them can point us towards the solution. I would particularly like to make "skins" work for the 92nd and 442nd so as to actually deploy them in games where historically accurate on the Gustav Line. Thanks for your own time and help.
  5. @UKMule You've come to the right place indeed. Be welcome and enjoy! Good luck and good gaming.
  6. It is indeed an issue of the mod needing to be updated for 2.0. Check file name details in this thread --> http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=108822&page=4. Uniform and Helmet files need to be renamed per version 2 conventions. If you don't mind waiting, I updated mjk's/ez Infantry Division Khaki & Olive Drab "patched" uniforms to the repository today. Just changed the file names and organized into easily used "zzz_" folders. BF reviews all such uploads before publishing for community use at large. Give it a couple days before you see BF post them. You should be able to download and use when they become available.
  7. Interestingly enough, someone wrote a book about that very premise 40 years ago; "The White Flag Principle". https://www.kirkusreviews.com/book-reviews/shimon-tzabar/the-white-flag-principle-how-to-lose-a-war-and-/
  8. An off-the-cuff reference in PC Gamer last January 2012 brought CMBN to my attention. Spent 3 months playing the demo and checking out the Armchair General tutorials trying to master the formidable learning curve for it. To me, CMBN is everything I never mastered in "Steel Panthers" but on steroids. A great computer wargame which applies and teaches the correct tactical lessons. Its the only game I make time to play anymore. Enjoy! Good luck and good gaming.
  9. @Fuser, Thank you. Did a double-take thinking it couldn't be a TOW. Wondered the same thing as Sequoia. I find the CMBN/CMFI game research and detail absolutely amazing. Kudos to Battelfront.
  10. Methinks you are correct. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=109105&page=8
  11. @mjkerner, I'm using the 92nd ID and can't make it work. Then tried the 442nd and failed there too. I will PM you to arrange DropBox. Thanks for all your help.
  12. I think you're telling me to add the "american_skin #_normal map.bmp" for each face to the mod folder as well, correct? Let me try what you suggest first before asking you to dropbox. Thanks!
  13. Not sure if this the correct thread for my question but I am certain I will be told so if not . . . Anyway, I'm looking for a little help trying to tweak some CMBN version1 USA infantry uniform mods to work in CMBN version2 . I am able to successfully update mjk's ez_usa_patched_uniform mods from CMBN v1 to CMBN v2. I can get the game to load the KHAKI and OLIVE DRAB versions for all the uniforms and helmets of the following units: ....... 1st Infantry Division ("Big Red One") ....... 2nd Ranger Battalion (this one is "vein's" USA ranger uniform mod) ....... 2nd Infantry Division ("Indianhead") ....... 3rd Infantry Division ("Rock of the Marne") ....... 4th Infantry Division ("Ivy") ....... 5th Infantry Division ("Red Diamond") ....... 8th Infantry Division ("Pathfinder") ....... 9th Infantry Division ("Old Reliables") ....... 10th Mountain Division ....... 28th Infantry Division ("Keystone") ....... 29th Infantry Division ("'Blue and Gray") ....... 30th Infantry Division ("Old Hickory") ....... 34th Infantry Division (“Red Bull”) ....... 35th Infantry Division ("Santa Fe") ....... 36th Infantry Division ("Arrowhead"), also known as the Texas Division ....... 45th Infantry Division ("Thunderbird") ....... 79th Infantry Division ("Cross of Lorraine") ....... 83rd Infantry Division ("Thunderbolt") ....... 85th Infantry Division ("Custer") ....... 88th Infantry Division ("Blue Devils") sometimes called "Clover Leaf" Division. ....... 90th Infantry Division ("Tough 'Ombres") ....... 91st Infantry Division ("Powder River") variously nicknamed as the "Pine Tree Division" or "Wild West Division" I fail to get the game to load the "skins" (faces and hands) for these three (3) non-caucasian units: ....... 92nd Infantry Division ("Buffalo Soldiers") ....... 100th Infantry Battalian ("Nisei" of the 34th ID) ....... 442nd Regimental Combat Team ("Nisei" of the 92nd ID) In effect, I'm able to load modifications for the two (2) "smod_american_helmet-soldier" helmets and all four (4) "smod_american_m41_uniform" files. I can't figure out why the game does not load the modification for the fourteen (14) "american_skin" files. Here's the process I'm using. 1) Create one (1) folder for all the mods specific to a line infantry unit. "zUnitName (version2 compatible" 2) Within that folder, load the following files" - american_skin 1.bmp - american_skin 2.bmp - american_skin 3.bmp - american_skin 4.bmp - american_skin 5.bmp - american_skin 6.bmp - american_skin 7.bmp - american_skin 8.bmp - american_skin 9.bmp - american_skin 10.bmp - american_skin 11.bmp - american_skin 12.bmp - american_skin 13.bmp - american_skin 14.bmp - smod_american_helmet-soldier.bmp - smod_american_helmet-soldier 2.bmp - smod_american_m41_uniform.bmp - smod_american_m41_uniform 1.bmp - smod_american_m41_uniform 2.bmp - smod_american_m41_uniform 3.bmp 3) Create a "Z" folder in my "Data" directory 4) Copy the "zUnitName (version2 compatible)" folder & contents as the single [as in only & just one (1)] mod file into that "Z" folder When I test using CMBN version 2.1, all the "smod" files work but none of the "american_skin" files take. I'm using the "Platoon Patrol" scenario to test; basically I reload the same saved game of a full USA platoon with MG's and Mortars and eyeball all the pixeltruppen ready for duty. Any suggestions from the enlightened to a bonehead? Appreciate whatever help I can get. Thank you!
  14. UPDATE: Disregard; my mistake. The "ez US Infantry-patched uniform" mods for 92nd ID faces already include hands with matching skin tones. I didn't check closely enough before making earlier post.
  15. Thanks for checking about uniform mods. Truth be told, I'm starting to update your own enhancement of US infantry ez_uniforms to be v2 compliant. Sorry, I must have missed your earlier question about that; Milwaukee county.
  16. Speaking of figuring things out on our own, this is what the rezexploded USA uniform files look like to me. Would all ya'll mind letting me know whether it is complete and correct? Thank you! For USA using: ez US Infantry-Patched Uniforms_Normandy (Olive Drab) ez US Infantry-Patched Uniforms_Normandy (Khaki) v1 Uniform Mod files names....v2 Uniform files names us-helmet-m1.bmp.................. smod_american_helmet_soldier.bmp us-helmet-m1 2.bmp............... smod_american_helmet_soldier 2.bmp us-helmet-m1 3.bmp us-helmet-m1 4.bmp us-helmet-m1 5.bmp us-soldier-uniform 1.bmp.......... smod_american_m41_uniform.bmp us-soldier-uniform 2.bmp.......... smod_american_m41_uniform 1.bmp us-soldier-uniform 3.bmp.......... smod_american_m41_uniform 2.bmp ........................................... smod_american_m41_uniform 3.bmp v1 Faces Mod files names....... v2 Faces Mod files names us-soldier-skin 1.bmp................ american_skin 1.bmp us-soldier-skin 2.bmp................ american_skin 2.bmp us-soldier-skin 3.bmp................ american_skin 3.bmp us-soldier-skin 4.bmp................ american_skin 4.bmp us-soldier-skin 5.bmp................ american_skin 5.bmp us-soldier-skin 6.bmp................ american_skin 6.bmp us-soldier-skin 7.bmp................ american_skin 7.bmp us-soldier-skin 8.bmp................ american_skin 8.bmp us-soldier-skin 9.bmp................ american_skin 9.bmp us-soldier-skin 10.bmp.............. american_skin 10.bmp us-soldier-skin 11.bmp.............. american_skin 11.bmp us-soldier-skin 12.bmp.............. american_skin 12.bmp us-soldier-skin 13.bmp.............. american_skin 13.bmp us-soldier-skin 14.bmp.............. american_skin 14.bmp Good luck & good gaming!
  17. @Fuser, Do you ever do uniform mods? I think I can figure out how to make "ez's" USA uniform mods compatible with Version2. I see that "ez" has both asian and negroid face skins for the 92nd Infantry, but I wonder if a mod is also needed to reskin the hands of african-americans to reflect darker coloring there too. I have no photoshop skills. While standing still, would you consider whipping up a uniform mod for the USA 92nd ID that includes all exposed skin coloring for the Buffalo Soldiers on the Gustav Line? I have very high regard for all your modding work. Your mods have made my CMBN gaming experiences truly immersive. Thank you.
  18. At the risk of becoming just one more entry in someone else's sig line, good post, Michael. I suspect that if the war had lasted longer, Sherman's would have aged out and the newer improved tanks would have comprised greater numbers in post '44 Allied forces.
  19. You are not alone. I do it too but more to let them rest or keep them ready to move out again quickly. I typically avoid allowing them LOS in direct fire mode because whatever they see can and will shoot back at them. (I have exceptions to that SOP too, depending on the situation . . . )
  20. I disagree. Deployment and, more importantly re-deployment, takes time. Before they "move out as normal" they have to pack back up whatever they unpacked in the prior movement phase especially with WEGO. There are many situations where speed matters and losing time should be avoided. There are also occasions where I want my weapon crews to stop and rest before proceeding. Automatically un-packing and re-packing will tire them more quickly. I prefer the current process where the TacAI does not deploy crew-served weapons automatically.
  21. See what DasMorbo said in your other thread. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=109113
  22. Gosh, for me there are way too many other variables one must consider. Just a few that come to mind are: - situation - what's going on and what are you doing? - mission - what are you supposed to be doing and how well is that going? - "freshness" of your pixletruppen - rested / ready / tiring / tired / fatigued / exhausted? - "quality" of your pixeltruppen - how good are they at fulfilling your intent? - timing - regarding your schedule, are you behind or are you ahead? Neither the principles of war nor tactical guidelines can ever boil down to hardfast rules per se. In short, the answer to "What is better?" is "That depends." So, the kind of front you need to maintain depends on what your units need to accomplish. It is not very straightforward; either in the game nor in real life. Sorry if this doesn't help. Good luck and good gaming.
