  1. Without releasing any details, can someone in the know confirm whether any of the User Interface upgrades will be included with the release of this module?? I know that was one of the areas the BF team was wanting to focus on going forward.
  2. I think it would be nice if there was maybe a small (like 5% - 10%) chance of a WIA solder being able to immediately get back into the fight as "hurt" after receiving buddy aid. This could be a situation where the wound was not as bad as initially thought and the solder feels they can get back into the action before receiving additional aid. Also, this would provide an extra incentive to do buddy aid.
  3. Here is an old post related to this from Steve: Battlefront.com Administrator Join Date: Feb 1999 Posts: 14,584 AT Guns don't get a benefit being in a Trench. They are considered fully exposed, though the crew might get some benefit. You need to put AT Guns in covering terrain, such as bushes or trees, to get some concealment benefit. Steve
  4. If anyone would like to play a PBEM. I would be interested. I'll play any side. But I would prefer a designed scenario instead of a Quick Battle. I'm good for about 1 or 2 turns per day. I would prefer to use box.net to upload the files. (it's like dropbox, but a LOT better! ... plus there is no need to install any software) Please just email me: eric.t.cole@gmail.com Thanks.
  5. Well. If the game had scored a 90%+ rating in PC Gamer ... none of us would probably like it. Men of War, Total War Series etc .... how many of us play those games?? For me it's Combat Mission all the way.
  6. I think the problem is that there is no "Confirm" screen after hitting the red button. After about 4 beers and 3 hours of playing CM ... it's pretty easy to hit the "Red" button instead of the "Play" button. .... And once you hit the Red button, there's no going back!! It would be nice if a Confirmation dialog popped up that confirms you want to exit the Replay mode and go to the next turn.
  7. I did a search and there was a post a while back that mentioned this. But the title wasn't really related and there were no answers to the question. So instead of pushing the old post up, I thought I would make a new one with the new title. Why don't the Allies get the "Anti-Tank" floating icon when you break off an AT team from a squad?? The Germans get this. It makes it a lot nicer when locating units ... especially in battalion-sized battles or even company sized battles when you have your squads split up. Since this happens on the German side, is it some sort of minor bug that could easily be fixed??
  8. I'm in on the campaign as an allied player. I have to pitch for noob. The revisions he has made are great! It literally keeps track of every single soldier on the field. The sparks are about ready to fly and I'm looking forward to a good show. (Allied victory of course!)
  9. I love buddy aid too. I think it would be cool that as an added incentive to take the time to administer buddy aid, it would be neat if there was a SMALL chance (maybe only about 10% of the time) of being able to patch someone up enough to be able to re-enter combat with a yellow, lightly wounded, status. I don't think it would be too gamey if the percentage was low enough ... could represent a panicked soldier thinking his would is worse than it actually was ... administering the aid could be enough to get him back into the fight for another 30mins or so until the action is over.
  10. I just want to let everyone know about a pretty cool tool for doing PBEM battles. There are a couple of different sights out there. The two I know about are dropbox and box.net. I'm participating in a campaign right now with a total of 14 players. Instead of everyone emailing files to each other which generates a lot of "Whoops, I didn't get the email." ... or "What turn are we in??" types of comments ... we are all uploading the files into box.net (in this case ... like I said, there are several different sites besides just box.net ... team BF, I am in NO WAY affiliated with box.net ... I just want to let the community know about this tool to improve the overall CM experience) The advantage of this is that you can see the entire history of the files that are related to your battle in one place. Also, you can see if your opponent has viewed or downloaded the file. Plus, you can make comments to each other. Also, email notifications are sent each time a file is uploaded. .... it makes the PBEM experience A LOT easier. ..... finally, you have the entire file history stored in the cloud for easily compiling any AAR reports. Just thought I would throw that out there for the community. Have fun!!!!
  11. This looks GREAT!!! I really like the command panel! You are 100% that it is annoying to not be able to see the full status of a unit in a single click (deployed, hidden, able to split, able to smoke, etc ....) ... a BIG +1 for me on this one.
  12. I don't like that people get booted for speaking their mind. But on the other hand, it's nice to see a good level of civility on the Battle Front war-boards. It says a great deal about this community. ...... Proves that us war-gamers are a cut above the masses!!! Also, it's nice to see discussions instead of fights on the war-boards! ... Kind of reminds me of Dr. Strangeglove: "Hey, no fighting in the war-boards!!!"
  13. Driving an unarmored vehicle (like a jeep, or truck) straight into the area where the enemy has already been roughly confirmed to be located is gamey. A CM battle is taking place because the enemy forces have already roughly located each other and have decided to engage. I can see where a battalion commander might send some 2-3 man teams in jeeps (or Kubelwagens) out a few kilometers to see if they detect any signs of the enemy. But to have a company commander send two guys across a bridge and right along a line of hedgrows that you KNOW have enemy troops .... just to see where the "Flashes" come from that are going to kill the guys driving the vehicle .... that's COMPLETELY gamey .... Hell, not even the Russians did that with their "active recon" prisoner units. ...... (well ... it was SIMILAR ... but not that extreme! ) Think of the human side of the thing in RL. .... As a US or German soldier, would you obey that order?? .. Personally, I'd rather take my chances with the court marshal. It can't be worse than what I've just been ordered to do.
  14. Once the Fire for Effect order has been given to a fire mission, can the Spotter then forget about the fire mission and move on to his next location?? Does that affect the mission in any way? Remember, this is after the spotting rounds and after the FFE order.
  15. I had a Russian sniper in my CM:BB game that I'm pretty sure was a woman.
  16. Hi noob. Just to let everyone know. I'm currently in on this as one of the Allies. Noob has created a very tight system and it is going to be a lot of fun. ..... If there are any German players reading this ... GET YOUR PLAN TOGETHER AND DEPLOY! ... The Allied players are starting to get fat with all the great French hospitality in Carentan!
  17. Also, the German infantry is well endowed with AT weapons ... be careful. Your Sherman is in very high risk if it's within about 100m of a German Inf unit. They have nasty things like Panzerfausts which will make a bad day for any Sherman crew regardless of the range it was fired at so long as it hits.
  18. However, PBEM could get a bit tiring I guess ... you would have to pass around 4 plays instead of 2 plays per turn ... but it would be worth it IMO!
  19. Whoops ... sorry about that. I thought you meant a direct fire mission ... not a spotting mission. Please disregard my post. ... I've had similar problems with indirect fire missions ... seems to be the luck of the draw I guess.
  20. Weird ... my 81mm mortar teams usually dial in on the target after about 3-4 rounds. I was playing a scenario last night with almost identical conditions you are describing ... there was a German MG squad in bocage about 250m away ... after about 10 rounds from my 81mm mortar he was history. .... I've never really seen it work any other way in direct fire mode. What was the experience level of your mortar guys?? That makes a big difference.
  21. Does anyone know if BF plans to incorporate the function of having more than 2 players per battle in a future release?? ... It would be really cool to be able to have 2+ players on a side ... each one in control of a couple of companies ... or maybe one in control of Inf and the other in control of armor. It could really be divided lots of different actually. There are all sorts of cool things that could be done ... you could only "see" from your troops. Maybe you would have to positively ID the other player's troops ... just like the way it is in "Iron" mode now. Also, for doing Umpire guided campaigns on a large operational map with many different players controlling different units, it would be incredible! It looks like some of the features in the "Iron" mode are heading in that direction ... I wonder if BF was contemplating this, but decided to drop it out of the time pressure .... any comments on this Steve??
  22. Thanks Colonel. There is another great Twain quote about heaven (sorry to hijack your post FMB) ... It goes something like: Heaven and Hell each have their advantages. In heaven you get better weather, but in hell you get better company!
