  1. It came with the original CMFI if I recall correctly.
  2. Yes, this is awesome! Thank you thank you. I am playing my first battle on my usual Warrior and it is soo much better. Next I will try Elite again. Not a fan of iron (and I always have on PBEM game going on Iron because that opponent really likes it).
  3. I have not cracked the editor yet (it took me two days to get my computer to cooperate and install GL). Are you saying that that bridge is available in the editor? Is it a generic bridge type that was common in Italy or did you give us a unique special bridge as a prelude to things to come?
  4. OK I have both CMFI and CMFI-GL installed side by each - my first try installing GL failed for some unknown reason. Uninstall / reinstall fixed things after a detour updating my graphics card drivers and the usual sad stories that you guys don't need to hear. What happens is: When I run CMFI it sees its PBEM files and saved game but not new saved games - OK. When I run CMFI - GL it sees its saved games but also all the CMFI saved games and PBEM files. Note I do not mean PBEM turns that have been saved during the command phase, it shows me the PBEM files that came from my opponent - NOT OK (but not the end of the world). What this means is the software makes it easy for me to make a mistake (I do not need help making mistakes). The time while I am winding down my four CMFI 1.01 games I am at risk in making a mistake and converting them the CMFI GL 1.1 in an unsupported manner. Yuck. I would definitely categorize this as a bug. Please put it on your list to fix. What I want is to be able to have multiple versions of CMFI each with their own folder for game files and mods in My Documents. That way during transitions from one version to another the software will help me to load the right turns with the right game. Note: I have three versions of CMBN on the go right now supporting various PBEM games. So, this is a real issue for some of us. My suggestions are (even though you hate it when we tell you what to do instead of what we want;-): automatically have the installer create a unique name'ed folder in the my documents folder (problem is you cannot intentionally upgrade and existing install) have the choosing of the folder be a step in the installer have the folder determined by an hand editable config file have the choosing of the folder be controlled by a user editable option in the GUI
  5. +1 to that. Single best artillery advice. You do not want your spotters exposed any more than necessary.
  6. The CM module added a bunch of 2xx numbered maps and they very good. I do not want to do QB's in CM with the 1xx numbered maps any more. Sounds like the 2.00 upgrade also added the 2xx numbered QB maps. Good call. Agreed. So far the only reason I have been unhappy with a FI map is because my tanks got caught in a maze of rocky terrain My own damn fault.
  7. Wow that is quite a project all by itself. Supporting infrastructure is worth investing in for stuff like this. Very interesting to hear. I have a totally OT question: do you track your sources? You must do a lot of research to put together these organizations. Do you also keep track of what documents you used to create your data entries? Do you keep them in the database? LOL
  8. Well I just finished reading both AAR posts. It seems like a mad minute is coming next turn. And they both sense it too. Fun, fun, fun. Ken, are you happy with GAJ's counter attack?
  9. Just be careful because the multiple versions will share the same game data folder: How do I install two copies of CMFI/GL? and Running both a CMFI and a CMFI with GL
  10. That sucker takes longer on my machine - smaller battles would probably not cause such a big problem Same here. What an amazing difference. If I still had my miniatures I would probably have totally abandoned them once I started playing this game.
  11. Well, WEGO via TCP/IP would be faster because it would eliminate the need to load and save the turn. I realize that you would not get all that time back because information does need to be packaged and sent to the other machine. But there is no way it would take as long to send the needed information as fully saving everything, shutting down then reloading the entire map to begin the next turn.
  12. OK good to know. The only issue I can see here is saved gamed from the older game will show up for the new one. It just seems kind of scary. I think it would be a good thing if there was a way to have multiple installs not share a doccments directory. Well sure but it would be nice to have support for mods that are specific to a particular version. Vin's animated text comes to mind. From the sounds of the other posts that is possibe. I am glad to hear multiple versions have worked for you. I feel better.
  13. Yuck! Yes, I could see that working as a hack but that is really not a long term solution. Wasn't this something that you guys ran into during development or testing? Having multiple versions is SOP for many of us. Isn't it for you guys too?
  14. Ah, Huston we have a problem. I just tired to run two independant CMFI installs hoping that I could get them to use two separate directories in my documents. The original install uses directories under ..\Documents\Battlefront\Combat Mission\Fortress Italy for my games and mods. Since games and (not all) mods are incompatible between versions I need a way to have a second such directory for the CMFI - GL install. I can see no way to do this with two versions of CMFI. I cannot install GL until I know I can handle this because I have multiple PBEM games going that I would prefer not to upgrade but even if I have to upgrade it will require coordination. Will the GL install automatically create a new directory? What is the supported way to handle this? I see no mention of it in the manual and I cannot find a setting in the game that lets me control this.
  15. That is going to be an issue though. I have PBEM games going on with a CMFI so i need to install CMGF in a separate dir. But if they share a doc directory both games and modes are going to conflict. Does anyone have a solution?
  16. Oh that would be absolutely amazing. I would love that.
  17. LOL that is funny. Murphy's law says something will unravel for him and he will have to eat those words. I sure hope Murphy is not looking
  18. Yeah! Your plan seemed very reasonable and moving that gun while a risk is worth taking. Bill knows where it was so he will spend resources taking it out. If you leave it it will die. If you move it it might live to fight another day.
  19. I was pretty proud of it - and I played another turn last night and stand corrected - it KO'ed four Shermans before the one remaining tank pulled back. I have video which is pretty cool. I'll let people know when I load it to YouTube. Cool - it is very painful to watch gun crews plodding along. May you way points be efficient and your pixel troops have enough time to get the job done.
  20. I agree with @Kanonier Reichmann. I was starting to wonder if this was just going to be a slow tickle across the battle field until GAJ's post. Things are going to start getting more interesting - I think. Yeah that firepower will be cool to watch. I hope some reverse slope advantage can give GAJ some good kicks at his enemy first though.
  21. LOL I could do no better. The way back machine was showing his new signature - clearly something about the way the forum HTML is structured it goes and gets the latest signature. And I thought the way back machine was caching everything. Interesting.
  22. Nicely phrased! I too am glad that Michael has shortened his sig lines. I do enjoy reading his posts they are usually either witty or contribute something valuable and often both. However lately scrolling over the same humours lines each time was making me less thrilled to see his name it a thread. Now I find I am back to enjoying reading his posts again. Bravo Mr. Emrys. I was looking for a good page about signatures and netiquette but failed to find one that was concise and relevant for today (talking about dial up speeds and message size just don't ring true any more). I personally try to stick to the rule of thumb I learned long ago - sig lines should not be longer than 3 or 4 lines. The main driver for this is people will see your signature often and you do not want it to interfere with communicating your message.
  23. And you can replace the target briefly command totally by doing this. Before that command existed I did it often. But I like the new command because it makes things easier. I still have to do the whole jiggery pokery thing when I need more than one brief target or when putting down a small smoke screen with a tank.
  24. I would like this also. Stacking multiple commands on single way point could be tricky (reorder, select a specific one) but I would be happy enough with put multiple target briefly commands and they get executed in the order you paced them - no reordering. Clear target clears them all.
  25. Upload speeds are usually dramatically slower - unless you play your service provider the BIG$.
