Sounds like a great use of the mod [tagging] feature - nice idea. -
CMRT on 27" monitor is a great experience
A Canadian Cat replied to BDW's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Yeah, it is kind of fun. I usually play on a 23" wide screen and I am happy with that however... at work we have meeting rooms with wall mounts 40 and 50 inch wide screens. Sometimes it is fun to fire it up - after hours of course. If only there was someone else here who played - that would be cool. -
Battlefront YouTube ad?
A Canadian Cat replied to permanent666's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Who else would pay for an add on YouTube? Unless some one is using game footage to sell something else. What was the add actually for? Spot on -

Now that was a sales pitch -
Those holes look good. I like that they are not perfectly smooth. I keep confusing the stock ones with the ports on the T34 so having the slightly ragged edge will help my poor brain tell the difference.

VM's Soviet Unit Skins/Gear (WIP)

They look brilliant. Even better with those icons Nice job. -
Oh, sure I cannot comment on the status of what field in what place. I just had some insight into how an abandoned field might look. I suppose that even in a place that farming had not stopped if there was a reduced number of local people available for farming they might have to farm less of the land which could lead to some abandoned fields.

CM Career Record System [Now featuring Red Thunder]
A Canadian Cat replied to Bootie's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
I can certainly handle that - not as much Excel experience as you perhaps but a fair amount. I actually do not think that I need the scenario in the pivot charts - like you said to much fragmentation. What I want is for it to be in the data table so I can look back and see if I played a scenario before or not. I will make a change my self but could I ask that you add it in the future official releases? If you think others are interested that is. -
Good idea. I actually create my backup folders for app installs limiting each folder to a little over 4G just for that purpose. I still have not actually burned and DVDs yet but that is the plan.

A question about ammunition sharing.
A Canadian Cat replied to Oddball_E8's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Interesting. I remember my Dad (serving line Infantry officer in from the 60s to the 80s) telling me that the Soviets created their 82mm mortar on purpose so that it could fire both Soviet made 82mm ammo and captured 81mm ammo. They apparently did have different performance but the Soviets had conversion tables to allow them to fire using either type of ammo. I have no documented evidence just third hand what he was told at the time. -
I cannot comment on the other questions you had but I can on this one. So, yes (at least in the '40s) the original crop would continue to be present in some form for a few years. But it would not look like a farmed field any more. Wild reseeding will not land in nice rows. So, if you were doing a field that had been abandoned two or three years previous you should not use any of the crop tiles. I have watched many field go from actively farmed to abandoned. Here is what happens, in the first year or two grasses take over with some small bushes appearing. After that those bushes get bigger and take over from the grasses. As the bushes push the grasses out the odd tree starts to get big enough to top the bushes. After six or seven years you have a significant number of small trees with a fairly thick underbrush of smaller trees and bushes. The time line changes depending on the proximity to forested areas - the close a field is to an existing forest the faster the tress take hold. If you are doing a field that is one or two years abandoned then I would go with tall grass and a small number of small bushes. That shape of the field should be very easy to see. If you are in the three to four year range I would keep significant amount of grass but mostly small and large bushes. Those that are paying attention can still see the field boundaries. Longer than that start adding trees to the mix.

Just installed your T34 mod pack (and the others). Thanks! Now I have a couple of battles going where the T34s look good and the IS2s are looking a bit factory fresh. Looking forward to more.

Which is good advice. No, excellent advice. However, I would remind people that you should also use the right tool for the job. Don't hammer that nail with your screw driver I have been a user of PhotoShop for over a decade. My experience is with working on photographs. So, it is possible I have something to learn about icon editing. But I read through several tutorials and after using and being frustrated with PhotoShop on previous icon editing projects I went looking for something else. And that is just what I mean. The icons I did have a solid back symbol lines with semi transparent central field and a more transparent background field with a semi transparent border and then fully transparent corner areas. In Photo shop that means drawing the icon. Then drawing it again in grey scale in the alpha channel. It drove me nuts and took double the time. I fully understand for creating a circular symbol area like the example that @Rake did no problem I would use PhotoShop. I would create a template icon with the circular shape and then just go to town. But for the style that @bill_sp and I used no fun at all. Like I said it is possible that there is a way to get PhotoShop to let you draw with colour and transparency but I do not know how and I could not find a tutorial that showed me.

Bummer, sorry you had trouble. It came up first in google when searching for "greenfish icon editor": Since it is open source and not a commercial page here is the link: http://greenfishsoftware.blogspot.ca/ It even has a Canadian domain - cool I did not notice that the first time.

There are several choices now. Check them out here: http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods?game_type=7&show_all=true As you scroll down the list you will see icon mods by Lt Smash, billy_sp and mine (A Canadian Cat). Bill H also has one or perhaps his is still in the works. Lt Smash is using the US period symbols for all sides. billy_sp is using force specific period symbols, mine are also using the native period symbols for each of the major players involved. I have three sets, one for each of the current game families: http://cmmods.greenasjade.net/mods/search?search=A+Canadian+Cat&commit=Search

Did I just discover a very old 'new' feature?
A Canadian Cat replied to Juju's topic in Combat Mission Red Thunder
Common, possible, but I'm with you I had no idea either. So, my question is then does it jump to the next level of command or does it jump to the HQ that is actually providing command? Consider this 1 Pl and two squads are together but 3 squad is trailing behind. When 3 squad is near the Company HQ they will be in command - just not their Pl HQ. If I click on the command and control icons will it jump to my Company HQ? That would be cool. -

I'll watch your video later but I do have a feature request. I would like to track which scenario each game played is from. I don't really need a large effort in incorporating that into your filters and data exploring capabilities but when I enter a game result that is one of the things I would like to keep track of. Please. -
Welcome to the game and forum. Yes and yes. While you can download again I personally recommend that you save a copy away.
