Yeah a Panther will fire on an IS2 if it has LOF. Even if it decides to back away it will have no trouble shooting. The trick to coming out ahead is to get more guns able to fire on the target than the enemy has. If you are stuck going one on one with something then either give up and do something else or use other units to find the IS2 and figure out where it is facing and have the Panther flank it. The best chance for a moving tank to get the drop on a stationary one is to come on its side or rear. Yeah, I know easier said than done.

LOL, yeah I am behind. In my defense what little free time I had today I spent testing. The real problem is that the new forum SW actually works well from my phone so I can answer posts even when I have no time to play.

Question Flail Company – QB – v3.11
A Canadian Cat replied to Toblakai's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Is that feature implemented now? I do not recall the announcement that someone without the module or pack could use stuff from the module or pack. I know I read that is the eventual plan. BTW I logged the 50 point flail company bug. -
If you are talking about our game I don't have much to shift anywhere. Those big guns eat every thing they can see.
-
You can also <shift>Click on unit icon at a time to build up your selection. Once you have a group of units selected (any of the above ways) click again on the one you want to base the group orders on. I usually pick someone near the "front" and in the centre or one of the edges (that way you can keep the whole group in the tress for example). Now select a movement order and click a way point on the map. Every other unit in your selected group will get a way point too roughly keeping their existing formation. You can back space to delete the last way point you selected. After you are done it is often worth looking at a few units separately to be sure you are happy. Oh and for this I highly recommend turning on "show all movement paths" <alt>P if I remember correctly.

Smoothing out terrain "peaks"

That is interesting. I usually spend a bit of time figuring out what elevation point is causing the issue and fixing it. -
Question Flail Company – QB – v3.11
A Canadian Cat replied to Toblakai's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
So you can actually purchase the 50 point flail company and have it show up on the right hand side listed with your forces? When the formation in on the right hand side what then, does it list any tanks or anything else (assuming you can purchase it)? Oh wait 50 points is the formation surcharge Funny bug I would say. -
I see what you mean. I was thinking more of the internal bits for loading shells etc. I guess if you make the turret small enough that the weapons and scopes etc are the majority of the size then that holds. It is a different way of looking at things. It takes the roof mounted remote MG / small cannon to the next level. It will be very interesting to see what things look like.

To bad but good to know.

So, prototypes exist and production is slated to start soon but we don't have any info on dimensions or protection. I take it that is because things are still classified. The Canadian air force is supposed to be getting F35s and the funds are approved too. Frankly with the price of oil on its way down (already talk of having to reduce the Federal Government's budget by multiple Billion dollars) I'll believe it when I see F35s do a fly pass on Canada Day. Don't get me wrong I think the new tank project is very interesting and I look forward to your armed forces having new toys to play with. I'm just not sure they will be rolling around quite as soon as we all hope.
-
Don't get me wrong I like the idea of designs that increase crew protection. These do seem like good ideas. However if the turret is not well protected then hits up there will make the vehicle combat ineffective, which is not a good thing.

If you make the 14 elevation markers also ditchlock does that make things steeper?

I do not believe that having the game and the turn files on separate drives is a problem. 5-7 minutes does sound long. How big are the turn files, what are your machine specs like? Before I upgraded my machine it was pretty painful loading up a turn especially a big one but I do not remember timing a load longer than 3 minutes. -

Indeed same. I actually have a Programs folder and it currently has quite a few things it it. Anytime I even suspect I might have an issue with Program Files lock down the install goes into Programs. The irony of course is that means that M$ plans to keep me safe are for naught But I think I can sleep at night. -
Wow up close that looks really good.

Strategic and tactical realities in CMBS
A Canadian Cat replied to H1nd's topic in Combat Mission Black Sea
Well, this whole game hypothetical and @H1nd is creating a possible attack story. Your points could also be a hypothetical out come. One of the nice things with this game is there is no historical record to "follow" we can make up what ever we want. -

I recently did an informal test and found the version of CMRT on my SSD drive started up in 13s and the one on the platter drive took 27s - if I remember correctly. That was just start up I did not try to load up a turn or anything. How long did it take your machine before you started using an SSD drive? My machine is pretty new, until recently I loaded up turns and then went to get coffee too but I don't have a butler so I have to boil water and stuff -

Indeed. But I am not a big gamer and I have a big drive The only games I have are CM but yeah with all the WW2 titles and testing CMBS and multiple versions for various PBEM games it does add up and I recently moved some to my platter drive. -

Well that is enough for a campaign. -

Plans, schmans. That's what militaries do. There might even be plans stored away somewhere in the Canadian Force HQ for an invasion of the US (yeah probably not) but I know there are plans for what to do if the US invades us. Military HQs are "what if scenario" and plan generators. I know you guys in Russia have been fed a long diet of NATO wants to invade us and destroy us various other crazy stories. I don't want to get to sucked to far into that rat whole but let me simply assure you that that was never the intention of the NATO governments and it sill isn't. Oh I know someone somewhere can find some crazy government official or elected parliamentarian saying things that make you nervous - trust me we Canadians know all about that. But the existence of plans and some low ranking guy's statements are not evidence of hostility. -

Wow, that could form the basis for a campaign or two right there. Nice. Wow, pretty ambitious but sounds like it could lead to lots of fun. Have you seen what @kohlenklau is doing over on the CMFI Maps and Mods forum? You could enlist some help and do something similar.
