Here's a fun analogy. Well, at least I think it's fun We all know the movie Aliens (#2 in the series), yes? OK, think of when Ripley and the Marines were making their last stand in the lab area. They had access to detailed schematics of the area. They had the ability and motivation to carefully check that against the actual environment. There weren't a lot of points of entry so they were able to quickly concentrate on them to make sure they were sealed. They closed themselves in and were ready to defend what they thought was a sealed perimeter.
Then they saw the blips of the oncoming Aliens. The blips approached and then passed the perimeter. Turns out they found an airduct or something that was not in their plans and the scary bastards were in the ceiling above them. And drama ensued
The request for a LOS anywhere tool is akin to having one of them pressed a button on the display table and have all the areas in the building that had a potential for infiltration light up on both the 2D schematics and in the real 3D environment. If that had been available to them they would have seen the weakness in their plan and adapted accordingly. The characters would have been much safer, but the movie would have been a lot less interesting.

LOL...well said. I haven't watched that movie for quite some time. Maybe it is time.

Great AAR! Clearly, in our future scenarios and PBEM play the flamethrower AFVs, infantry-engineer teams are to be "priority" targets for the defenders.

I've got to say I am glad BF does not give us this tool. I for one like the "fog of war" aspect of the game, the surprises that come along with it, making for much more exciting gameplay IMHO.

@ChrisND
Finally got a chance to watch all your videos this weekend. Great stuff. Please keep it up.

Beautiful thread. Your pics and prose are second to none!

I've always loved the C2 aspects of CMx2! You constantly have to be aware of where you are sending or positioning your troops. It definitely looks even more challenging with the Russians, similar to playing Italians in CMFI. Great AAR!
-
Yeah, that last one is really atmospheric. Great job!

Currently playing it myself. Still on the first mission sneaking my way through the dunes and just about ready to try and kill some Pillboxes. Beautiful looking map if I may say so.

Never argue with an idiot. They will drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

I'm sitting comfortable and have popcorn.

Much appreciated. The new birch trees, for example, were noticeable in the beta screenshots.
I noticed those as well. Very sharp indeed.

A tantalising glimpse of part of a dead horse, and a nice well too.
What a tease!
Do you think that is a horse mkIII or mkIV?
-
Superb! Better than a movie and with popcorn.
-
Great pics! Russian uniform textures do indeed look good.

Yes, that's who I was thinking of.
He also did the screenplay for one of my favorite comedies, "Arsenic and Old Lace." My wife and I watch it every Halloween.

Quoting Mord:
'If I watch a modern doc, I can jump in and game CMSF, read a book on Italy, I can expand upon it in CMFI. The more the better. It gives me all these options to explore military history over multiple mediums—a truly concrete interactive experience. Learning has never been more enjoyable and exciting'
That's exactly my interest - therefore; 'very well said'.
BINGO!
I couldn't agree more...+1

Trivia question: which better known WWII movie did the screenwriter for CoI also write the screenplay for?
Are you talking about Casablanca? Julius Epstein being the screenwriter?

I don't have much to report yet. My 4 teams are still working their way through the woods to the south of OBJ BLAU. They are about 3/4 of the way to where I want them to be. They are starting to tire, so I'm looking forward to them getting into position and begin resting. If they get back to being well rested in time I may have one crawl closer to the edge. I have had no contact at all through the first 5 minutes of the battle.
I still hope to make them seem like a bigger force than they are. I really want to get a couple of shots off, drop back out of sight and move laterally to give the illusion of more men.
How about some pics of your dispositions? The terrain from your perspective?
-
Yep, that is the photo I was talking about. I've always wondered who was/is he? Where did he come from? Did he have a love of his life? Brothers, sisters? Any dreams or aspirations? Did he survive?

Which picture your talking about Frankster?
It is one of the wallpapers you see when waiting for the game or scenario to load. It shows a column of German troops marching down the road away from the photographer with one young, very young looking infantry soldier looking back at the camera. I find it a very emotional picture. It should be there in your game.
-
I've always wondered who the young infantry landser is looking back at the photographer while he and his comrades march to the front. You probably know which picture I'm talking about. He looks so young. I wonder who is was, did he survive war?

Damn but I love these types of threads! Beautiful stuff! I'm chomping on the bit to play CMRT!

LMFAO! That was a good laugh. Something tells me somebody was getting his ass handed to him by the AI.

LOL...for every minute of gameplay, I swear I take about 5 minutes of watching the action from different angles. Soon I'll be eating popcorn as well during these replays.
