  1. Yes, sorry about that, I forgot this was Normandy and not WW2 in general. But I think there are similar complaints about Sherman guns for example, and my question still stands for whenever the Russians make it in.
  2. What about all the complaints about Russian and some other allied guns being undermodeled in CMX1? Will that be addressed, or does Battlefront feel they got it about right to begin with?
  3. http://forums.opendemocracy.net/node/47269 Palestinians are suffering because of Hamas, not because of Israel. People on the West Bank are far better off than the people in Gaza. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090108/ap_on_re_mi_ea/ml_palestinians_west_bank_view;_ylt=AiCBXESsA8JGiJhI66olgx0LewgF Now why are they living safe, good lives? Because they're not currently attacking Israel.
  4. AKD, exactly right. I find this whole notion of proportianal response ridiculous in the extreme. First, a state is responsible for defending all of its citizens from attack, there's no magic number of casualties which suddenly enables a state to defend itself. No nation on earth would suffer daily attacks on its sovereign territory by dozens of rockets. If you have any doubt of this, think what your government's response would be to daily rocket attacks on your hometown. Second, it's not solely a question of casualties, an entire population is terrorized and traumatized on a daily basis, unable to lead normal lives for years now. Third, Israel is using only the amount of force needed to permanently put an end to these attacks, just as they stopped Hezbollah attacks in their "futile" campaign in Lebanon. The fact that some of you think it won't work anyway is entirely irrelevant. Btw, I found some interesting info on this Patrick Lang expert, obviously this source isn't necessarily objective either, so make up your own mind: http://www.nationalreview.com/rubin/rubin200405180836.asp Edit: btw, in run-up to Iraq, Lang was a registered foreign agent for a Lebanese businessman by his own account and for the Lebanese government by account of his critics.
  5. Everyone in Israel knows UN is a Hamas collaborator. Just the fact that there's not a peep out of them when Israeli civilians are targeted until Israel responds is proof enough. The latest example is that idiot UN recently appointed as the Palestinian human rights watchdog or whatever his phony title is. He is an obvious hater of Israel and constantly makes the most outrageous and baseless accusations, including calling Israelis nazis. This is from the UN that elected Libya as head of their Human Rights commission. "Technically what Hamas does is not war crimes since they're not a state" is the greatest excuse I've ever heard, thanks. Steve, you keep talking about a long term solution, but what is that exactly? The liberals' favorite answer to everything, negotiation, only works if both parties are interested in a settlement. Negotiating with a sworn, implacable enemy only makes one look weak and foolish. Also understand, Israel is fighting for its survival, not to win a popularity contest. Have you ever wondered why the Islamic world doesn't fly into blind rage every time Muslim women and children are intentionally blown up by Islamist terrorists in Iraq and Afgahnistan?
  6. Steve, you seem to be operating under several misconceptions: 1) Under the Geneva conventions, you're allowed to attack a military target even if there're likely to be civilian casualties. You're never allowed to attack a purely civilian target. It's the enemies resposibilities to keep military targets away from civilians. I believe US ROE is to return fire when fired upon, someone please correct me if I'm wrong. So in the case of UN school, Israel simply counter fired to incoming fire, probably not even aware there were civilians there, which was well within their rights. 2) The UN personnel in Gaza are not observers, but are nominally there to help the Palestinian population. They're known to freely collaborate with Hamas. The UN people now calling for the war crime investigations are not necessarily in Gaza at all, they are part of the UN suppression of human rights infrastructure, who happily ignored years of suicide and rocket attacks on Israelis, but get hysterical every time Israel responds. UN's total bias against Israel is well known and documented, so I won't go into it here. 3) There's no use whatsoever in Israel negotiating with Hamas, as Hamas is fanatically dedicated to the total destruction of Israel. The only way Israel could make "peace" with Hamas would be to surrender and turn over all of its territory to them. It would be the same thing as US negotiating with Al Qaeda. Thus Israel had no choice whatsoever except to respond to attacks militarily. Edit: This article by Ralph Peters gives a good overview of the Gaza situation and the general situation Israel finds itself in. http://www.armchairgeneral.com/the-guns-of-gaza-israel-attacks-hamas-reacts.htm
  7. In the UN school incident, it was confirmed by Palestinian residents that Hamas was shooting mortars from near the school, and then also took cover in the crowd. Israel apparently returned indirect fire, not knowing there were people at that location. UN only said there was no Hamas in the school itself, nothing about outside of the school. In the shelter house case, a group of soldiers saw some fleeing Palestinians on the street and ordered them to take shelter in a near by building. A day later the same building was hit by a shell, for an unknown reason. There's no evidence that this was done deliberately. The UN in Gaza are basically Hamas collaborators, they never demanded a war crimes investigation while Hamas was intentionally targeting Israeli civilians for years, but once Israel responds they suddenly wake up. As far as lack of NCO's, historically Israel seems to have done pretty well militarily. And US forces with their wise old NCO's had quite a few horrific incidents where dozens of civilians were accidentally killed in both Iraq and Afghanistan. The truth is this is war, and mistakes will always be made in a war. Edit: From reading some of his other comments, this Lang guy seems quite anti-Israel, so I wouldn't take his word as gospel.
  8. Of course any accusation is automatically true, and I'm not even sure there was a claim of "deliberate".
  9. Pretty sure they already started, it's more a question when they'll finish.
  10. If the tank is selected, it shows the RPG as spotted, yet it chooses to shoot at some infantry instead. One time I even told it to target the RPG, yet it seemed to completely ignore the order, and got knocked out as the result. I don't know if there's any difference on Veteran between what is displayed and what the tank actually knows.
  11. Actually it only takes me 1-2 seconds to calculate the turn in the first battle of Rolling Thunder campaign. Now if the M1's would just quit ignoring RPG's, life would be good.
  12. This is great, now I can pause and rewind during the first replay, instead of having to wait until the second replay. Should save a lot of time.
  13. With my old graphics card, it would fill the screen but everything was really stretched out and pretty ugly. With the new card, it went into 1440x1050 resolution I think, instead of the 1680x1050 native of the monitor, and the stretching is barely noticeable, and everything's looking much better.
  14. There doesn't seem to be any tactical AI at all, or has that changed?
  15. Just tried CMBB on Vista home premium 64, with Radeon 4850. So far seems to work fine, only had to get the bit files mentioned on p 5 to correct the text issue.
  16. From what I understand, and you can also see this in the Wargamer AAR, only the CMBB maps are finite. The scenarios themselves are dynamic, depending on the forces involved and their placement on the campaign map, so an infinite number of variations.
  17. How so? CMx2 still won't have a campaign map, you're back to tactical battles only. CMC is going to be something far greater. Just played CMBB yesterday, still as much fun as CM:SF.
  18. Western Civilization has lost its moral convictions. We can't even tell the difference between terrorists and NYFD. This is why we are doomed to being overrun by barbarians.
  19. The worst thing is, your infantry in hunt mode stops hunting every time it brews up. Glad to hear it's being fixed.
  20. Big bad oil companies are the perfect scapegoats when one doesn't want to place the blame where it's due, ignorant electorate and craven political leadership. Funny though, Congress had no problems passing a 10% ethanol requirement, I guess the farmers are bigger and badder than even the oil companies.
  21. That's right, foiled attempts. There is such a thing as applying common sense you know. Do you think if there were constant attacks on our territory from Canada or Mexico we would just sit on our hands? Ask Spain how they lost Florida.
  22. If they're unable or unwilling to stop their territory from being used as a base of attacks, you bet.
  23. Having armed groups operating out of your territory is a pretty good definition.
