  1. Turns saves would be best if you have them. If there is an anomaly, a theoretical discussion won't get too far.
  2. Hmm didn't think of that one, but I do recall now you discussing that in your Carillon map thread. Wonder if mud will produce the same effect.
  3. Actually a significant portion of the Palestinian population defines itself as Christian. At least it used to. The British Mandate estimated just under 10% of the population as Christian. Estimates now vary by territory but is in decline. With that bit of trivia data as my sole significant..okay maybe insignificant contribution, I'll just go back to sitting in the corner...Central Front 1980s!!!!! (or even 1961, Berlin crisis escalates into open conflict!)
  4. Very interesting. Dang I need to go back to that map Pak 40 posted and go back through the legend. I was paying more attention at the time to dykes. If the map simovitch posted is the same source it has an indication of ditches (the distinction between ditches and fences seems a bit blurry, but hey gotta start somewhere). I also need to read up a bit more and understand the actual impact on armor movement. In a sense I was aware of the issues of MG, but the actual terrain conditions and off road movement concerns I have only a cursory understanding. Loading up the kindle now with a couple different books for the next trip.
  5. Man I just had to google that. Found some interviews on youtube and a few other things, man this guy was a hoot.
  6. Yeah I didn't bother with water. It just means if I have a dyke between the water side will be at the height i set the bottom of the drainage ditch. This in turn make the ground level on the drainage ditch side of the dyke automatically 2 m higher than the canal. Not that big an issue just one of those I needed to be aware of. Once I got the look right I figured I'd work on the actual feel and was likely looking to use marsh like you'd mentioned. I figured the drainage ditches are gonna be a bit mucky, narrow and hard to run along but they should provide for some cover and concealment. In retrospect now though beyond the canal and the RR embankments there is not much in the way of true dykes in the AO. Next question I need to look at that this discussion has made me wonder about are drainage ditches within the fields. I really need to spend some time on google earth at low level to see if these are at all prevalent.
  7. LOL yeah really. By the time we get to the Ost front you'll likely be modding holographic images.
  8. You enjoyed it, you win. I just like at times to review the old footage.
  9. Thanks Pak40, I'd forgotten this one. DL'd the image and viewer. Interesting as it seems to confirm the Gamers map in that there isn't much in the way of dikes. Primarily it is the canal and RR embankments. It also implies standard heights are 2.5 meters and higher. 10 would seem a bit much then. I'll check the google streetview I am pretty sure I saw the RR crossing there and hopefully that can give me a ballpark on the height. Seems I may be worrying too much about the drainage ditches alongside dikes.
  10. Do a campaign in South Lebanon and you'll likely have both sides ranting at you. Politics, war and religion is such a volatile mix. Shame really as the point is just to objectively examine stuff, but there isn't much objectivity to go around in general much less that part of the world. That would be the nice aspect of doing the Central Front 1980s. Neither side would be offended.
  11. oh great, next I'll need to build a folder system by country for terrain types.... Looking forward to it!! Hey Mord, any chance you will revisit the portraits for MG? I notice some of the German units engaged with the 101st aren't represented. (one specific example is I think the 59th ID). Man I don't envy what your life will look like when CM does hit the Ost Front.
  12. Yeah I had to sink it 2 meters (which in turn affects the water level in the canal) and though it will give some of the tactical benefits it doesn't look great. Still it may be a workable compromise.
  13. Besides, if I remember my friend's aunt's drawl correctly it was the "Wowah of Nauthun Aggreshun." No self respecting Southerner I ever met could pronounce anything using only a single syllable.
  14. I think instead your guys should be getting what this guy has. Apparently sniper issues really were a bit of a problem. http://www.iwm.org.uk/collections/item/object/205202475
  15. I am wondering how the drainage ditches may get done. LLF had mantioned difficulties in another thread trying to recreeate them and for scenes like this, we don't really have much to work with. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bundesarchiv_Bild_183-S73822,_Arnheim,_Grenadiere_gehen_durch_Gr%C3%A4ben_vor.jpg
  16. Either that of Lady Gaga is doing CM mods now.....
  17. Well this would be the right place to run that survey.... What can I say, I was the story behind the naming of the Jefferson Airplane album, "Bless Its pointed Little Head". Though I don't believe wearing a hat would stop this crew for even a moment.
  18. Well research so far has netted a couple items, the most interesting being this story. http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=168409 It also includes a pic of a dyke (though not along the canal) and 10 meters seems pretty close. Also looking at Veghel, the amount of development between the canal and Eerde probably eliminated quite a bit of the dyke along the canal. Still looking for good images or info if anyone has any.
  19. Yeah same here, I've also found ANY TC unbuttoned anywhere near concealed infantry is just asking for a ticket home, either in an ambulance or a pine box. It isn't a British only thing and it is a real nice way of making that tank worry more about itself and less about looking for other targets.
  20. Better than a massive sewage backup followed by a tornado though.......
  21. Can't get Zeppelin out of my head every time I start tinkering with a map for Veghel Anyone the point of this thread is to ask for some thoughts from folks on some ideas for mapping Holland. I am gonna go out on a limb here and suggest BF is probably not going to include anything specific for dikes. It doesn't really seem necessary as terrain elevation changes appear to handle this fairly well. What I am struggling with is the Zuid-Willems Canal. I am trying to work within the context of the Gamers TCS game Screaming Eagles in Holland. In it they have the Canal as a 10m obstacle for LOS, but when I google map the canal..well 10m seems a bit of a stretch. They list the same for dikes and RR embankments. Those seem fairly close to what I can see and are recreatable in CM now with the tools at hand. Is anyone more familiar with the canal and what might be appropriate for creating embankments? I figure we may see new buildings and flavor objects etc, but I'd at least like to have some base maps with roads, dikes, RR and the canals ready for the module. I am expecting I'll have 5-6 4x4 km maps to cover the full extent of the boardgame map as well as a map created around Veghel and one for Eerde as focal points of the 2 days of the game. No there will be no AI plans etc though you wil all be free to do with these as you will if I can get them done.
  22. The easy solution would be to simply release another CMSF Module for Israelis forces. Don't have to sat a word, it's just another ToE. These days it seems like everyone is a bit too sensitive about how they feel they might be depicted, even if it is accurate.
  23. Simple- They don't know. There are no game breakers right now though there are some annoying things like wire, some of the models etc. If it were a game breaker they'd focus on fixing it (like they did the MAC issue) as it isn't they will get it in when they feel the patch has enough to warrant it. Whether that means a separate patch or a patch released with the next module is anyone's guess. (except of course BFC's). What would you do with this info anyway? Suppose they picked a date out of their a** like August 21st. How would that help you especially considering it was subject to change without notice. As a completely uninformed spectator I'd say they were busy looking at bug fixes they need to apply (most of which we probably aren't even aware of), preparing the next module and working on whatever the "big" announcement is. They have their hands full and trying to satisfy anyone's curiosity about when they will be ready for any portion of it is not worth their time as they don't honestly know. Again what is the point of giving you a date if they really don't have one yet? And their customer support is quite good, giving estimated dates for possible release of patches etc they don't really know does not qualify as customer support. Helping folks with video driver, security software issues etc does and the tech help forum clearly demonstrates they are responsive. Giving you any answer at all to a question that has no real answer just leads to a Simpson's episode... Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further Are we there yet No just a little further
  24. Depends on the announcement. Most companies (particularly successful ones) release information about products when they are ready to, not when their user base is clamoring for information that they can do nothing with yet except formulate still more questions. Moon that will teach you to provide us with any info at all.
