  1. Turn 1. Now it is my opponents turn to move. My over extended Recce Platoon are surrounded and my opponent declares an assault. I cannot withdraw as I am completely surrounded from all sides. Enemy ID Key Now there are two CM battles awaiting. Both of them will be a Platoon of Stuarts surrounded on all sides by enemy armour & infantry. I will have an 1km exit strip facing my lines on the CM battle maps. I will edit down the master CM OOB to just the relevant units and send the .btt file to my opponent. 'A Breakout', 'Fight to the Death' or just Death; these are my choices.....
  2. Ok, Turn 1. Firstly I have redone the initial Allied deployment map for legibility. Now I move South and declare an assault on Camilly and Buron and move unopposed into Authie! My Recce Stuart platoons lead the way. My opponent since he is not surrounded opts to withdraw his forces in his movement phase. Enemy ID after my Turn 1 movement.
  3. Doh! Shows how little I know...didn't CMBB have Finnish forces?
  4. I am playing as the Axis against noob. I am new to John Tiller games so do not expect Marshal Zhukov style strategic greatness! The date is the 7th of July 1944, the time is 08:00 hours, the place, Normandy. There are 8 operational turns, each turn represents 2 hours, each hex represents 1 square kilometre. As the attacker I move and assault first. Elements of the Canadian 3rd Infantry Division and 2nd Canadian Armoured Brigade have moved from the landings at Juno beach to within 10 kilometres of Caen. My objectives is to take Bretteville, Buron, Authie, Carpiquet and Ardenne Abbey (100pts each). Facing them are elements of the 736th Infantry Division, and 12th SS Pz Division Hitlerjugend. The 3rd Canadian Infantry Division are a volunteer force with no combat experience, so they start the game with a CMBN experience level of Green, and a motivation level of High. The 736th Regiment are elderly Germans and conscripts from other German occupied countries, especially Russians, and have no combat experience, so their CMBN experience level is Green and their motivation level is Low. The 12th SS Pz Division Hitlerjugend are all members of the Hitler Youth, with eastern front veterans for officers, they have no combat experience, and therefore have a CMBN experience level of Green, however, as they are all Hitler Youth, their motivation level is Fanatic. Below are screenshots of the PCN44 scenario showing the operational area with place names, terrain objectives, the deployment of the Allied forces, and a unit identification key(note these are '2D' screenshots as my elderly monitor is 4:3 ratio). 5. Спасибо Алек Just downloaded this. Is there a mission 'z_15'?
  6. Those German tanks look like T-34's? And a swastika not a cross on the turret side is ahistorical surely?
  7. Shot 6, 0 seconds. Control test. This time infantry unit next to tanks with no LOS on Tigers. Shot 7, 120 seconds Control test. Infantry unit single clicked, only friendly tank LOS & contacts Shot 8, 120 seconds Control test. Tank unit single clicked, only friendly tank LOS & contacts Hope I am not derailing this thread but C2 is hard to understand properly I think.
  8. Ok I have set up a test that I think shows horizontal C2 sharing between different parent formations. All screen shots Iron Mode. Shot 1, 0 seconds 2 Shermans, 2 infantry units. Infantry on ridge with good frontal LOS. Tanks behind ridge and tall wall but within shouting distance of Infantry Shot 2, 0 seconds Infantry unit single clicked. Very Weak friendly tank contact. No enemy contact. Shot 3, 0 seconds Tank unit single clicked. Very Weak friendly infantry contact. No enemy contact. Shot 4, 60 seconds. Infantry unit single clicked has spotted two static enemy Tigers at approx. 1750m & strong friendly contacts. Shot 5, 60 seconds. Tank unit single clicked has 2 STRONG ENEMY CONTACTS & strong friendly contacts.

I am convinced there is horizontal sharing, in fact especially with the Brits whose armour & infantry are usually in different formations; horizontal sharing is the only way you can get the aforementioned to share contacts which is vital for infantry tank cooperation. A simple test of my hypothesis is; An infantry unit and an unbuttoned tank unit 30 metres apart on either side of a ridge with no LOS between them. Both units are from different formations so there is no obvious C2 sharing. The infantry unit spots a tank on its side of the ridge 1000m away. After a while the tank unit will start to get a contact icon in the area of the spotted tank. The only way this can happen is the units shouting over the ridge as their are no C2 link higher up their respective command chains. I will eat my hat if proven incorrect!
  10. Good tips: Move German Infantry units, if possible, in the middle of a grass field, that way you are least likely to be spotted by a armour heavy opponent on a completely flat map. Your troops in buildings are easily spotted once they have fired and then are usually annihilated by concentrated cannon fire. So only use buildings for observation & concealment not combat. Oh I forget to mention you can hide whole Companies in those central grass fields...
  11. Afaik planes use the same or similar LOS rules as ground units although with far poorer spotting ability. From my experience only moving units or those in poor cover, relative to their size, get spotted by enemy planes.
  12. I played this one pbem and my opponent had his T-90's lined up on the flank for my MBT reinforcements to arrive along with a cluster bomb barrage timed perfectly! The one thing going for you is lots of long grass fields which are perfect for launching RPG ambushes then crawling away. It is a big map and your opponent cannot be everywhere. Attack where he is weakest.
  13. Yes, but you will not know about friendly non-sub units. Afaik Iron was exactly the same in CM:SF Two shots
  14. No, in Elite mode a single click highlights the rest of the formation which in this case is the MG etc. . To check LOS between units you have manually use the LOS tool. That is my point really, only in Iron mode can you instantly see what only the selected unit sees. Two further shots in Elite mode
  15. Iron mode is the only mode where you can look through the eyes of a unit and see only what that units see, both friendly units and enemy. I find this very helpful for finding good LOS between units and setup formation etc. Two screenshots of the same Hq to illustrate my point Elite Mode Iron Mode
  16. So we download the maps then divide the pixel height & width by five to get metres? Are all the CC series maps the same scale?
  17. Thanks for the correction Field Marshal. The CMx2 series are like watercolours on blotting paper, over time one forgets what is in which! Can campaigns be branched on the elimination of a specific unit?
  18. Hi DeeYay, 1. Only get around is to create a series of identical campaign maps with craters and ruins added incrementally. 2. No bridges unfortunately. I do not know why as they were in CM:SF. 3.No. Mods are only allowed for graphics, nothing 'under the hood'. 4. No blending though this is allowed in CM:BN. Probably historically accurate in Afghan War. 5.No. See 3 ^^ 6. You can assign units as objectives with point values. If the unit is killed the opponent gets x amount of points. Not sure if this can be used in branching campaigns though?
  19. A few questions about the Drozd on the T-64's and T-55's. Just testing them out. When they fire are they abstracted visually as I can see no animation? The wiki entry says they are only effective in a 60 degrees frontal arc, is this correct? Also, are there a set amount of projectiles or do the have unlimited ammo in the game as it appears? Thanks in advance.
  20. Thinking about contour overlay further I have come to the conclusion that showing contours from any camera angle or elevation would be quite complicated to code and processor intensive. Having the camera at a fixed height plan view would not work either as different map sizes would need different z axis values to display the full map. I have a much simpler solution! A hotkey that toggled the underlying tiles to shades of black and white correlating to the tile's elevation value so for example the peaks would be whitest the depressions blackest. This I imagine would be much easier to code, would require minimal CPU time and would be visually easier to comprehend than contour lines.
  21. I find it hard to visually judge map height contours. A hot key that toggled a contour overlay on and off.
  22. Just downloaded, very chuffed, many thanks for your excellent and selfless work. (green weapon silhouettes just make me think of sci-fi games not WW2 ) One question - If one prefers a stock graphic eg. the binoculars icon, does one just delete the new version from the mod folder?
  23. Hi Fraktion, I would be happy to give you a game via pbem. Any scenario, although I prefer more realistic settings such as FoW and no taking back moves. I am a semi noobie and can do a turn every 1-2 days. PM me, if you're interested
  24. Hi Mesquite, It is best to avoid forums altogether when you're out of it, I find. Firstly you regret it in the cold light of day, secondly the mother of all databases will record one's rants for all eternity
  25. Go into the scenario editor, load 'Last Defense' from the scenarios folder, delete the existing order of battle and parameters and replace with your own then save it with a new name eg. Last Defense_v2 For quick battles you could rename it along the lines of 'Attk Small Open QB-239.btt' though I have not tried that method.
