It became a slaughteryard when my air support decided that my foremost units looked like Kiwis. The resulting disaster has rather taken the balls out of my attack.

Bugger that. The meager kiwis are being a slight pain in my posterior. While the brave German boys are stomping all opposition... The New zealanders are crumbling on all fronts. The reality is of course that I'm storming an entrenched position without any meaningfull support. Its messy and nasty, But darkly funny. I've taken a few casualties, (including a whole squad that was directly in front of his gun line). And I have to bring in my troops from all over the map. Its a tad tricky to keep everything going smoothly. More to come as we continue....

Tank destroyers were perfectly good for their role as first shot tank killers. Please stop beating on the M4 sherman M4 Shermans were perfectly good general purpose tanks. Their guns were not ideal for AT work, But they could do it if they had to. the 75/L38s were adequate although a tad short, this limited them somewhat. The 76/L25s also had shortcomings. However as a general purpose tank they were effective. They could kill any common enemy tank from any angle at medium ranges. they could also kill or dissable most enemy Uber tanks from the side or rear. They had good armor and once wet amo stowage was adopted their flamability problems were pretty much solved. These are of course not the specialized AT weapons that modern tanks are. But the fact that shermans are still in service in several countrys ought to say something

Divisional level game using CMBB
Corvidae replied to Si32's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
Jesus phuquing christ in a blender... The lag on the turns is going to be maddening. Wouldnt it be better to have 5 maps each 2000 meters wide, and have 10 people play 5 related regimental level PBEMs with a co-ordinating referee overseeing?? -

Befor WW2, The Portugese military was investing a great deal in the military application of obese nuns as an offensive weapon. As war itself became inevitable, they switched over to a program of breeding super agressive pixies. After everal tragic incidents of pixies escaping containment and killing their handlers, It was decided to suspend the program. Later they joined a pan allied project to drop vast ammounts of beer behind enemy lines, and just point the Canadians at the beer. This has been found to be the best way to win a war, as nothing is stupid enough to stand between a Canadian and beer. .

Infantry wont follow orders even when not supressed...
Corvidae replied to Garand51's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
In all fairness, I've seen simmilar **** before. Units that are unaffected but still refuse to respond. It happens sometimes, although very rarely. It's a pain to watch your units sit there and do bugger all when you desperately need them to move as ordered. Its even worse though when they sudenly lunge for the most exposed ground on the map, And then writhe in a pile in full exposure while waiting for the enemy to notice them. (yes I've seen that too) -
Moving Mg's, HMG's & Mortars on foot
Corvidae replied to Broompatrol's topic in Combat Mission: Afrika Korps
Repositioning mortars and MGs is a nasty job when you are up close with the enemy. They are slow, this makes them easy to surpress and keep surpressed. The fact that you and I are in a game means that I am probably not the one to answer you. But sooner or later JasonC will clue you in. -

My own position is that wars are started by impotent old farts as a means of getting rid of virile young males. -
Coming back to cheating topic
Corvidae replied to cargol's topic in Combat Mission - Tips and Tricks
I have never encountered cheating in a CM game. I have had my ass handed to me by a few players. I have had bad force mixes from letting the AI pick my forces. But I have never encountered cheating. I have played against people far better than myself, with the full expectation that they were going to beat me. But I have never encountered cheating. -
Cheating/Hacking re-visited
Corvidae replied to onodoken's topic in Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin
How the hell does one cheat in CM? What exactly is happening that you find so suspicious? Its not the gun height bug (I hope). We beat that issue to death a few moths ago. -
I have a few british sherman mods up here http://www.cmmods.com/web/CMMods.nsf under the name Corvid.

A pair of LMG teams sent forward at the 1/3 and 2/3 marks of your frontage. Give sneak comand, and end with a move to contact comand. Let them probe for the attackers thrust.

Sanok, Exactly what kind of terrain are you defending? What nationality are you playing, and in which game? Are you attempting a linear defense? A deep defense? Or a mobile defense, with or without strongpoints? Is the ground favorable? Have you designated a reserve? Can you channel the attack into a kill zone? Do you have the tools to do that? Can you improvise? Can you counter attack? Can you identify your own weak points? And adjust them? Or use them as bait? Have an active defense. Force the attacker to change his plan in mid stride.

I got slaughtered by teeps My useless 88mm AT gun sits on one side of the dense forest, While my 2 halftracks cover the other side. 2 platoons of recon infantry and a few irrelevent defensive obstacles. It was a good game.
