  1. Hinkar, Absolutely..... Of course all WWII novels were bad. And brimming with cliches.
  2. Its an ethics issue. Problem If Jason is correct, (and I strongly suspect he is) Then the game itself is flawed. Ths flaw being the gun height bug. It is obvious that a crest position is a good position for a gun. But a gun MUST have height. To continue to use the crest while KNOWING that the game has a flaw which causes the gun to have no height,,,, Is unethical. Solution? Unknown. Suggestion,,,, Placing guns so wheels are on line of crest. Would this simulate proper crest positioning without exploiting gun height bug?? Is there a compromise position here? Something we can all agree on and work with?
  3. Cute mission, played first as British, then as German, Both against AI, Easy victory,BOTH times, This game needs to be played PBEM. The map has great potential for both sides, Downside; The brits have to walk a long way to reach the german positions, This eats into the 35 minutes aloted. Also, the deployment of the shermans is tricky. (I'm not fond of the british 2 inch mortar either, although it is slightly usefull on this mission) The germans have no downside, Despite being locked at setup.
  4. I would personaly add an infantry tank (or 3) to the allied force, Preferably with a 6 pounder (or better) main gun. Plus an infantry reinforcement around turn 3 or 4. 1 platoon ought to do it.
  5. ok so its the game engine. And the gun has zero height. Ok,, Now I get it. So thats the bug, The gun has zero height. See I was not aware of that detail, but now I see how the bug would over-enhance the cover value of a crest position. That suddenly makes sense. And theres no patch to fix that?
  6. Utter jibberish and crap, crap, crap, crap, crap. Its all baffalgab, and statistics (94% of statistics are made up on the spot)
  7. JasonC I was not aware the reverse crest tactic was a bug in the game, I always assumed it was a tactical placement to take advantage of a hill's thickness. The hill itself providing cover, rather like the hull down position with tanks and armor. I rather like placing my guns just behind a crest. It just always made sense to me, Also, I recall you were eventualy able to kill most of my guns despite their being so positioned.(correct me if i'm wrong here) ******************************************** As for the rest Lightning, Yes, Guns beat armor. Guns eat armor for breakfast, and then wait for more. Think of it this way, A tank is a 7 foot wide by 7 foot tall, square cutout. It moves, and draws attention to itself by movement. A gun is MAYBE 4 feet wide, and properly dug in, is as small as 1 foot tall. (showing above ground). Which one is easyer to spot?..... or hit?? AT guns are tank killers, and only mortars, guns, and snipers can beat AT guns without being mauled. Most AT guns also have at least some anti infantry ability, so storming an AT line with foot sloggers is a bad idea. But AT is vulnerable to indirect artilery fire. The best tactic for beating AT with tanks is to put your head between your knees, and kiss your own arse goodby, because you are truely screwed.
  8. The map itself looks brutaly hard. Wayy to much open space to cross, and bugger all for cover. its a defenders paradise.
  9. It would be worth while to know his name, Did he survive? How he felt then, and how he feels now? He is another nameless face in a picture. A boy from some small German town probably. A believer, who probably thought that "god" was on his side. He probably realy believed that jesus was talking to Hitler. He probably had his rifle blessed by a priest or pastor. He probably wrote letters home to his mother telling her all about the "sinners" he was "saving" on the holy crusade that Hitler was sending him on. And he probably struggled to hold that belief despite the abbominations he saw all around him. And he probably died far from home.
  10. 1) Weapon accuracy varies in direct disproportion to target threat levels, (if your target is an empty kubel, you have a reasonable chance of hitting it at any range on the first shot, regardless of conditions. if its a Tiger sitting on your TRP, and you have it boresighted, at 100 meters with no dust or smoke or brush to mess up LOS, and your crew are veteran, and in command,,, you are screwed, Your long 17 pounder AT gun will miss every time.) 2), No chance in hell, If you have smoke you can force your gun to fire it by creating a covered arc to stop it from turning to deal with every other threat/non threat, And then issuing a smoke command, This helps, but is no guarantee. Very often guns will behave as though the crew has been diving into the brigade rum ration. 3) yes, by getting it hit by enemy return fire, 4) see info screen, [enter] button
  11. MikeyD, Please help me bully the admin into adding a mod section.
  12. JasonC generaly (always) knows what he is talking about. I tried the mission, and scored a few good kills, but my stratagy was not in any way like Jasons, I eventualy got stomped, Thinking about it yes, Jason has the better way, My way was to leave one platoon on the ridge, while bringing the other up almost to the village, Flanking with the two unattached tanks. My initial advantage lasted all of 15 turns
  13. Ok M13/40 is tall, has weak gun, and cramped turret (2 man) slow ROF, and low muzzel velocity, The mk1 A9 has a better gun in a fast 3 man turret, Good muzzel velocity and decent ROF. Also it sits lower. Maybe try using the shoot and skoot command, and attack from 2 directions ???
  14. Italian tanks are ****, they are made of soggy paper and are equiped with hamster engines and slingshot guns, Having never played this scenario, I have no idea which italian tin cans you had, Nor which british kindling boxes you were facing,
  15. We have sections for the 3 games,AK, BB, and BO. We have a tips and tricks section, and a scenario section, and a tech help section. But no section for mods and mod makers, Could the admin PLEASE add a section for mods

  17. PFMM Indeed it would appear so. Do I stand corrected then? We must maintain the practice.
  18. Poor Slave Badale, The syphillis hath rotted his brain away, I see that alcoholism is considered a recreational activity hereabouts. good good
  19. All mods are exclusivly visual, although MikeyD does make the best mods I've seen,
  20. And yet another M4 sherman related thread gets out of hand, Whats with that anyway?
  21. Jason, I must agree with you on tht point, A generic smear probably derived from early problems with inexperienced troops.
  22. I gathered he was playing against the AI certainly that strategy will be less effective against a human player
  23. American units tended (as they still do) to shoot anything not smothered in stars. So painting stars on their vehicles was a sound allied survival tactic. I mean its pretty hard for the average american to tell the difference between a boxy tiger and a lozenge shaped sherman without stars, most americans still cant tell a triangle from a circle.
