  1. Steve Hi! You mentioned hardware - is the new game going to be CPU or graphic card intensive? I really need to improve my computer set up. I am assuming just a 1GH G3 upgrade to my B&W will not be enough. The current cheap (affordable) macs run at 1.4 GH & 32MB (though the eMac has 64MB) but they are all totaly un-upgradeable. Will this be in the minimum specs range? If not then I am probably looking at a PC say an AMD3200. (Also will the game be 64bit optimised? - DualCPU/Core optimised?: or will this come later? David
  2. Hi! Also exlodeable Ammo dumps and fuel farms? David
  3. Hi! It would be nice if briefing map (printable!) could be auto-generated (from the game map) as a a line drawing with contours and showing salient landmarks. Even better would be a random accuracey factor to simulate degrees of intel. Or is this asking way to much? David
  4. Hi Steve! Don't worry - the WOW will be when I see it up and running on my Mac - Or PC if by then I've crossed over to the Dark side David
  5. Hi! ......and a battleship is akin to a tank tank that floats? Now I see all sorts of interesting possibilities - WW2 afloat anyone? David
  6. Hi! Add.... Follow me/Convoy QB's to be linked - core units progress with +/- additions together with much more varied victory conditions/objectives. More deformable terrain esp. woods and in wet conditions shelled terrain turning into mud etc. On/Off ability to show contour lines (if only from the birds eye views). Trains, boats, planes together with "Modable scenery/structures". Also change..Marketing - Make available Direct Download with discount Don't change.. I guess if it aint broke don't fix it.. Regards, David
  7. Troops are most likely to reach their objective using the "Advance" order if they are likely to be shot at. But they Tire/Exhaust PDQ. Make sure that you give them covering fire to suppress their foes (lots of HE helps!). Once they dive for cover and make their own 'Sneak' order you've pretty well lost them if they remain under fire - giving them a 'Hide' order sometimes helps'. Unfortunately the AI is pretty dumb when directing "sneak to the nearest cover" as you will probably find out. Happy hunting, David
  8. Michael Yeah, well...My wife's iMac(RevB) turned toes up and two on one (my) machine is crowded. Also I am trying actually to PLAY CMAK so my Post readings suffered! I'm still on NA and have yet to venture further north. With all the tizwas going on at Macsville it looks like I will delay buying a replacement until they get their act together and make some sensible announcement on their planned product line. David
  9. ME Hi! I have the following thought: if it were still WW II, they would have said so. My reasoning being that since they haven't, it must be a different era and they want it to be a surprise, for their competitors if not for us. If it is important that it be a surprise, it must be in some era that is not already saturated with games and they want to be if not the first, then the most recent in a long while. Civil War? Who knows there maybe a possible market out there. Civil war - Brit - A remake of "Kingmaker" prehaps? David

  12. Hi there! Just to add my two cents (lira) as a legacy mac user it seems entirely possible that within a couple of years "games" will be played on the new generation of soon to be released X-box/playstation hardware devices that promise tripple core 3GH CPUs coupled with OOTW state of the art Graphic whatsits all for less than $500. Although most games for this type of system would not/do not interest me (but I would have to fight off the grand-children) this is a much more realistic "investment" than a new high end Mac. (Though for the life of me I can't understand how a games machines can be made so much cheaper and yet have such overall superior game performance). Also given that these machines will suposedly be internet savvy I think that if my middle name was B*ttl*fr*nt I would be checking out the possibility of a CMX tie up together with the feasability of hosting an on-line persistant WW2 battle environment using the CMX game engine. Would'nt that be nice? - I might even fork out for a monthly sub. Anyway tomorrow Steve the magnifico will be pulling his magic rabbits (Tigers?) out of his reality distortion field and all will be revealed. In the meantime I am thinking that the latest revision of the G5 iMac looks to have a good bang to buck ratio should my B&W decide to rollover and die. Regards to all and thanks for this amazingly worthwhile Forum. .
  13. But you would have the right hardware to run CMX2 when it comes out - without emulation. We live in hope and trust in faith... David
  14. Hi! Anyone tried running the PC version of CMAK using Virtual PC running on Mac OSX? I guess that even with a G5 it might be no faster than on my G3/400 as the emmulation does not include accelerated graphics (cards). If it does work well the I guess the cost of a new Mac G5 + Virtual PC + CM x3 PC versions would be a small price to pay! David
  15. Hi there Battlefront! What you need is...... Two New Games! 1.......I would be more than happy to a have a new and immproved recognizeably CM WW2 game with the ability to choose which 'theatre' and which 'year' straight from the set up screen. And while you are at it, (although you have produced probably the PC game with the highest replayability of all time) I would wish for the Quck Battles to have much more varid aims/victory conditions and to be able to be linked. 2.......Surprise me with a Quantum leap in game design/concept and I will almost certainly buy that as well. (Esp if it is WW2 Naval) David (I nearly forgot - remember OSX, I would hate to have to crossover...)
  16. Hi ME WTF is longhorn? I mean...aside from being a kind of cheese... Vapour ware? David
  17. Hi guys! I see we are getting down to the nitty-gritty. One of the things that makes the CM.. games so FUN to play is the abiliity to "be" the Boss man and send all units everywhere and to "be" the lowly shm*ck who is taking on a big cat at ten paces..and all aspects in between. In just about every encounter one (the player) can and does identify with the whole gamut of situations the game throws out. Unfortunately this does not lie easily with combat realism as this thread in particular highlights. All kudos to the folks at BF for so far in the CM series for managing to get the "mix" right. (Having read what the Oracle is predicting I, am sure they will continue to do so). David
  18. Hi Guys! As one who plays mainly against the computer I would opt for CM2 to continue in this mode if forced to choose. Having said that I realise that a multi-player option would be immensly challenging and fun. Somehow I feel the key to obtaining the M-P option lies with individuals playing their own mini /module game within the larger game, In other words the game would need to be in effect games within games. The "main " game would not have the same "parammeter set as the sub games so each could be optimised to maximise the realism and playability for its own type... For example if say the basic "Lt." sized HQ unit (+ its subordinate units) was taken as the minimum module given to an individual player they would play these units c/w borg spotting which for a few close nit units is not really an issue (in all events the all seeing eye of the player is the biggest borg spotter of them all.) The player would be playing his own "Quick Battle" allbeit on a common map. Now to borrow an anology from Photoshop, if every player in effect played his battle on his own seperate '"layer" the game designer "only " has to make the sets of rules that computer would use to enable entities to react with entities on other layers. The computer AI could also play its own layers. Additionally there could be different game rules for diferent classes of layers. For instance the "Lt. Col." class of layer could be ruled to be updated for spotting according to its subordinate HQs being in command, but the player controlling the Col would only be able to see the HQ unit and not its subordinate units...etc Layering might also enable solo campaigns to be made more interesting..you take your module the computer merges it with the set scenario and you get a different battle every time. Anyways, just my two cents how it done in real life programming.......I hav'nt the foggiest! Looking forward to the done deal (so I'll have an excuse to upgrade my Mac) David
  19. Hi REVS! ...I wouldn't care if the game was identical to how it is now, but just made compatible with Mac OSX! I'll drink to that! David
  20. Hi MD! ...If CM is willing to consider the Pacific for the new game engine perhaps that means the new game engine is going to be able to handle water? Wow! Just what I've been waiting for. Full Naval battles - Amphib. Ops. -All theatres of course. No wonder the new game engine is taking a few extra weeks to develop. David
  21. Hi ME! " ...so that the road surface is level from one side to the other...." It has always niggled me that the 'roads' are painted on the terrain and follow its contours rather than being 'level'. Apart from the small amount of extra work in map making in these games, in real life roads cut into and built up on the terrain provide really useful cover (sometimes the only cover available). On a similar theme, Pill Boxes (Bunkers)! In game on hilly terrain these give a whole new aspect to the term 'Jerry Built'. I remember in the original 'Valley of trouble" Demo being amazed at being able to place one of these on the junction of two sloping tiles so the the PB was at an angle of 45 degrees and hanging over the edge - just like that old Charlie Chaplin film! Something to fix in CM the new? Seasons greetings to one and all - David
  22. Tooz - you make a good plea! I think it all depends on what sort of game CM2 will be. If it is a continuation of the WW2 CMBO/CMBB/CMAK sagas I trust that we will have a game framework that will enable all units and all theaters to be incorporated at the scenario designers whim; (with of course updated graphics etc) If however CM2 is some sort of "Space Marines in Neverwinter" then I would sincerely hope (and beg) that an expanded version of CMAK be released to encompass all of WW2. I would pay good money for such (even more if it was OSX friendly). This may seem somewhat of a niggle - but what we have is a near as D*mm*t perfect game so that any requests for improvements tend to be pedantic. Regards to all, David
  23. Dawg Bonz Hi! Interesting that you get times almost identical to mine I have a stock B&W G3/400. The motherboard is clocked at 100 whatsits. I probably would have "Sonnet G4'd" my old Mac7300 had not my son passed on his B&W to me.
  24. Thanks Panzerman! I'll go into this in greater depth.
