  2. "Having a company of Shermans run into a Pak front surely creates a nice smoke screen..." Too bad those dead vehicles don't block LOS to your infantry trying to hide behind it.
  3. And if the defender has placed fallback foxholes..
  4. At the top, right, of this page is a search button. Learn to use it. Next subject. At cmmods on the left is a Mod Manager section. McMMM is for PC only. [ December 17, 2004, 12:27 PM: Message edited by: junk2drive ]
  5. As I posted above at www.cmmods.com I suggest you learn McMMM mod manager first.
  6. Since you are new to this Mark Gallear's Mod Corner is a good place to start. At the bottom are links to his tutorial pages for modding and scenario design.

  8. The game also changes shades of things like dirt roads depending on the weather. If you want a detailed explanation of the bmp numbers, go to The Proving Grounds and find the Design Tips section. Then find "Seasons and Visuals" Basically, the game uses different bmp numbers in different regions and month, year. There are open ground mods at cmmods for different appearances. For example, Gurra's dirty open ground looks great July 43 to May 44, but turns to a strange green June 44 to Aug 44. Edit these bmps aren't used in summer 44, oops. Make that Sept 44 to May? 45. 9. A. go get the mods. B. check to see that I have backups of Ed's converted BO mods. C. install mods with McMMM. D. open CMAK editor. E. check out Valley of Trouble. F. check out Going to Town. G. ENJOY Looking good with Ed's trees, converted BO large buildings, Juju's Berlin buildings, treebases, Ed's dark or DesertFox's grass. I think they fit in England, Normandy or anywhere in NW Europe. Now what to do with MikeyD's great little buildings? Ah, rural or village.
  10. Damn this game that make me learn something. A google search for salt marshes turns up this definition from one website: "A salt marsh is a low coastal grassland that is covered at least once a month by the rising tide. Salt marshes are found on the edges of estuaries; places where a river flows into the ocean. In the marsh, the water flows very slowly so sediments are dropped from the water and build up a muddy environment where plants can grow and small animals can live." Then I find a Nebraska USA website that shows salt marshes in the middle states. It mentions the Great Salt Lake in Utah, and the Salton Sea in California. I have been around the Salton Sea but don't remember any marshes that looked like the CMAK tiles. I guess I will leave them alone until I find something better. Last night I started Hans' Small Battles, Notre Dame. City fight, lots of buidings on pavement. 3 turns I had to stop and make a mod. I had Juju's Afrika cobblestone streets joining the black stones in CMAK pavement tiles. So I copied and pasted Juju's cobblestone on BFC pavement bmps to make a set that matches the roads. I'll send them to Juju for approval.
  11. Hi again, the mods are on the second disc but not installed in your game. If you have gone through the motions and have cmmos working well, you can navigate your cmmods folder, find the bmp folder, and look at the names of the zip files.
  12. For CMBB DD's Grass and Steppe mod, and DD's terrain mod. Both are at CMHQ in the cmmos section. FWIW following your other posts, you might try setting the FOW to none to see all units on both sides of a battle until you get the hang of the game. If you are the Wodin that I have seen at SPWAW forum, you will find it is a tough transition to the CM series. But well worth the effort. A lot of SP players around here.
  13. Patboy, are you going to uninstall these after the December battles? I think they are generic enough to use in West Germany
  14. If you have CMAK you can run this saved turn in the CMAK cpu benchmark thread and check the times against your machine. Or just read the thread for an idea of what other people have for computers. If you have the latest, greatest, machine and your battle takes 5 minutes, it will take an hour on mine.
  15. Micheal Dorosh's The Med website has a wealth of info for uninformed people like me about the campaigns of this period. Someone at TPG has done some scenarios named AOI.... I had no idea what that meant until I read about it at The Med. I see some Persia-Syria scenario possibilities in the text there.
  16. Ed Kinney aka Tanksalot does some of the best trees, bulidings, water, etc also at cmmods under my junk2drive name are Sdog trees, ice, water.
  17. Brent, Hans uses M13 and M14 in the PTO and I can't believe how many turret hits it takes to knock one out. MikeyD and all, the stock buildings in AK are very good IMO and I don't forsee them being modded. Very detailed if you get up close. Kudos to whoever did them. The desert marsh tiles are, uh, nothing like I've seen in the US southwest. I have started collecting the DAK mods. Andrew's are of course, Andrew's, but are a different colour then everyone else's. The SPW 251-1 is very common in the battles I have played and is the default for unidentified halftrack. Yet no one has modded it. The BFC one is nice, but looks too nice. The Shermans need Wicky's dust like his M4A1s.
  18. "Who knows, maybe someday we'll get Field Bordellos into the game." An important part of General Hooker's supply chain in the US war between the states.
  19. In addition to my list, for some people, 20mm and 37mm AFV's just aren't as exciting as late war equipment. Playing some of the 1940 France scenarios with early German kit gave me a whole new perspective on the arms race in WWII.
  20. "Americans are culturally naive, under-educated, and xenophobic," That could be me, but while living in L.A. I learned some foreign words that won't be in the game.
  21. Sergei, kinda like the M3's at Kursk in BB? Maybe the T's share bmps with the Italian tankettes.
  22. Did anyone buy this game to play in North Afrika? Silly question. Back in my other computer wargame days (SPWAW SPWW2), I tried to like desert battles but just couldn't get the enjoyment from flat land, long range shootouts, lack of cover, etc. I bought CMAK, tried a couple from the CD, didn't like it for the above reasons. I am now trying desert battles in CMAK again. I have noticed a lack of mods for the desert. Are the BFC originals that good? They are nice. No buildings mods, few terrain mods, some AFV mods. It made me wonder if people bought the game for Afrika Korps, or Italy = Europe ?
