  1. I don't know if this was mentioned, but when I tried to mirror a BO map to AK, hedges were also converted improperly, facing the incorrect direction.
  2. I still think the Allied price is ridiculously high. As an example, in CMBO, for regular quality, German 150 mm is 55 points for 25 rounds. A comparable caliber, US 155 mm, is 208 points for 35 rounds! The Germans can have 100 rounds for 220 points. BFC can explain it away with realism issues, but in game terms, performance for cost in the battle is all that matters. 210 points for 100 rounds and 208 points for 35 rounds? Utterly ridiculous.
  3. This was an interesting thread, as I was thinking the same thng about Sherman prices. The explanations made sense. Can these same explanations be used to justify why Allied arty prices, especially the US, are so ridiculously high, giving the Axis and unfair and unrealistic artillery advantage? Even in CMBO, the Axis had a price advantage for off-map arty.
  4. I don't know if you've noticed this, but converting from BO to AK, rough becomes rocky. I had to go into the conversion files and change it to insure that rough becomes rough.
  5. Now that we have the new map converter provided by Pyewacket, will there be a concerted effort to convert the CMBO scenarios to CMAK and make them available online? I'd be willing to help.
  6. Pyewacket, When I heard about this, I was ecstatic. I'm drooling to convert BO maps to AK. However, I've run into a problem. I have the special edition version of BO, which is version 1.12E, so your program won't work for me. Can something be done to make the special edition compatible? I would also suggest, that when changing AK maps to the other games, the default for vineyards should be brush. I believe they're similar in cover and concealment and is better than changing to open ground. I hope BO 1.12E can be added!
  7. I know this has been discussed before, but I need some information. I'm willing to spend the time to convert some of the CMBO scenarios to CMAK, but is there an easier way to do it? I've heard of Mapping Mission, but don't really know what it is or where to get it. Is it compatible with CMAK? Is there hope or am I wishing for something that can't really be done?
  8. I think walls and cemetaries are under-modeled. Being behind a stone wall or a tombstone would offer very good cover and concealment from small arms fire. However, a cemetary is 50% exposure for infantry. If I remember the figure from my recent test, just behind a wall is 22% exposure. You get about that in scattered trees. Also, being directly on/in a wall is 95% exposure!
  9. I've never seen this being discussed, so I don't know if this is a bug. I've had CMAK for several weeks. Whenever there are units on the ground floor of a two-story building, the unit bases disappear from any overhead view. They can be seen from an angle. There is no problem seeing the bases when the units are on the top floor.
  10. Word of mouth works very well. That's how I found CM. An online friend purchased SC after another guy we know online told him about it. I was told about SC, as they wanted a third person to play against. I checked out the Battlefront web page, found CMBO, downloaded the demo, and never did get SC. Now, I have all three CM games.
  11. The manual states, that light snow is a few inches. Snow is roughly eight inches. Deep snow is twelve inches or more.
  12. At the Scenario Depot, is there an archive of all the scenarios there? I've only found the lists of current uploads and the most frequently downloaded. Thanks.
  13. "Besides the obvious, a new computer?" Well, yeah, that's what I'd like to do. There are some good prices out there, too. Maybe for Christmas. "My CMBB ASL mods were redone for CMAK and are available at the mod depot if it helps, any." I'll look at them. Thanks.
  14. Yes, for on-map terrain, it worked. The only thing I saw that is different, is the grid lines are a bit fuzzy, but I can live with that.
  15. I finally have it! I took the ASL mods, which were designed for BB, and installed them into both BO and BB. I then took the gridded mods I have for open ground and steppe, that were also designed for BB, unzipped them into a separate folder, batch-reduced their dimensions by 50%, then installed both sets of mods into BB and the open ground grids into BO. Open ground and steppe tiles are normally 769 kb each. Mine are gridded and are 48 kb! This finally did it. I have noticed a lot of improvement in the performance of my computer. I can now use weather settings, higher doodad settings, and can play bigger scenarios. I can also scroll around the battlefield during the action phase without the map skipping or jumping. Now, all I need to do, is figure out something for AK.
  16. I just used Irfanview and reduced the dimensions of the AK BMP folder by 50%. The good thing was, that all the bitmaps are now 25% the kb they originally were. The bad news is, everything on the screen is 1/4 the size and nearly impossible to read. There are some things you need to click, like the scroll arrows in the scenraio page or the terrain icons in the scenario editor, that aren't even on the screen anymore. Sigh. Time to reinstall the game....
  17. GunMod, if I do the above, there should be an improvement for my computer, right? I should also get more RAM, as I have only 64 megs.
  18. "3. Irfanview can do batch resize also, so one could go into advanced options and set width and height to 50% in order to make 128 x 128 bmps instead of 256 x 256. I'd do that from the original bmps and not bmps that have been reduced to 256 colors though, should look better that way." Wouldn't that actually be 25%? A 128 x 128 is 1/4 the area of a 256 x 256. Of course, I may be talking out my ear. lol
  19. 1. IF you used a common palette, what would happen in regard to DirectX? 2. I was originally trying to conserve HD space, but thought that it might work for game speed too, not knowing anything about DirectX. 3. Irfanview can do batch resize also, so one could go into advanced options and set width and height to 50% in order to make 128 x 128 bmps instead of 256 x 256. I'd do that from the original bmps and not bmps that have been reduced to 256 colors though, should look better that way. </font>
  20. I vote for this. I've had CMAK about two weeks now and the prices of Allied arty still shocks me every time I play a QB.
  21. For AK, I just reduced the entire bmp folder. For BB, I added the ASL mods and gridded open ground first, then reduced the entire folder. Same with BO.
