  1. Does this mean that the old advice from BFC "guns and foxholes don't mix" is no longer true?
  2. There's lots to love. I'm still playing. I followed the link to an old MD post recently, and I still agree with a lot of his criticisms. I don't think it's as good of a _game_ anymore, but it's a jolly fine tactical simulation, and I don't play anything else. GaJ
  3. I'm playing my first town battle since the patch. My dudes are loving being in buildings. What a difference! I suspect I'm winning because I ran for the houses, hoping like heck they'd be improved, and my oppo used the pre-patch tactics of "avoid houses like the plague"... GaJ
  4. Yeah I hate that thing too, it's noisey and smelly
  5. I hate them too. I hate them in conjunction with bogace, especially corners of bocage. Why can't we put a unit in the corner of bocage, so it can see in both directions? I find that no matter what I do, the unit can see through only one bocage wall, or the other, not "through the corner". That whole "no go" zone near corners drives me up the wall. Similarly, the fact that only every second action spot is near the bocage. GaJ
  6. Well... the moral of this story is don't play PBEM with Dan Edmands... GaJ
  7. H2HH has a cool feature where it helps you set up the dropbox for a new game. You put the new game file from your oppo into Incoming (or save the first file into Outgoing), then do right-click "Create Dropbox Folder" and it creates the folder and takes you (in your browser) to the "share this folder" page. The problem is that Dropbox changed their site, and this feature stopped working. Well... it's fixed now (This cool feature, and others, are described in the instructions at http://gregories.net/h2hh/H2H%20Helper.html which also has a handy "donate" button ) Cheers GaJ
  8. Hey Dan... are you out there? It's your turn, mate. I've chatted and emailed... This is the second game where it looks like you've disappeared: that's not really great... Hope everything is OK for you... GaJ
  9. OK - I'll do that. But .... why do I need to?
  10. Ah - I might not have explained properly. I ideally want all the terrain from Viens, except those that Aris replaces. I have this: In Data\Z\ Two folders: Viens\Veins_TerrainDesaturation_CMBN_v2.brz Z_Aris\Z_Aristotles_terain.brz What I _thought_ would happen is that V comes before Z, so Viens.brz would get loaded, replacing a huge amount of terrain, then Aris would get loaded, replacing some of those with Aris: especially, the grid. GaJ
  11. Dang, I don't know what you mean I thought that each mod in the Z directory was loaded in alphabetic order. This means that Viens should be loaded _then_ Z_Aris. This means that Aris grid should end up visible. But when Viens is in the Z directory with Z_Aris, Z_Aris grid doesn't show. Why is that? GaJ
  12. If you don't like finding/deleting files, you can also do h2hh reset-state (or h2hh.exe reset-state on windows) Another trick is h2hh reset-windows if the position of the h2hh windows somehow gets messed up (which Windows is good at doing, though I haven't had this problem for ages now). GaJ
  13. I put Aris's terrain mod in a folder called Z_Aristotle_Terrain_Mod in the same Z folder that I have Veins Desaturation Mod (in a folder called that). Why doesn't Aris's grid show up? Surely it's loaded after Vein's terrain? Thanks! GaJ
  14. By comparison to copying the latest zip file to the dropbox, uploading it to CMMODS is kind of a hassle. No big deal of course, but there's this upload form to fill out blah blah However, FWIW, I have put 1.5.4 up there now as well. And I've even pushed it to the repo so Charles Texas-Mac-Toast can do the Mac version too. Welcome back Charles! GaJ
  15. Is it realistic? It's a lot of fun, that's for sure, but realistic? What's the evidence for that? GaJ
  16. Ah - I better give Charles-Texas-Mac-Toast a bit of a prod eh? GaJ
  17. Well, 1.5.4 is in the dropbox now, hopefully fixes this. And, in case you didn't notice, you can now right click on a game row, select Properties, and it will tell you what the time is in your opponent's timezone (if they are using H2HH). GaJ
  18. Whoa! This is an unexpected place to find an H2HH bug report That's a definite bug, though. Standby for 1.5.4 with a fix. In the mean time, if you don't mind "resetting" everything, you can do h2hh.exe reset-state from a DOS prompt and it should fix you up. You will have to tell it again anything you've already told it though, after this (like where game file folders are etc). GaJ
  19. To the other point: I have seen things, not in Iron, that can only be explained in this way. Next time I do, I'll make a movie... GaJ
  20. Actually, I think this is why for me this has become less of an issue than it used to be: most of the time I am looking from long range anyhow. What there is to be seen at close range is eye-candy. The actual results of turns are seen at the longer ranges... GaJ
  21. Well, ironically, I doubt whether many people really object to wild shots happening during braking and acceleration. That seems realistic. This thread was about how unrealistic braking and accelerating appear, visually (as opposed to their effect on ballistics). GaJ
  22. Uh Oh ... how can that be? One moment we're saying that when the tank rocked forwards, the gun was pointing down and the shot hit close. Next moment we're saying that even though the gun _can be_ pointing down, the shot might still hit accurately. So does the rocking actually have anything to do with it? Maybe this is just the inaccuracy you can get while you're moving? GaJ
  23. If Ranger33 test are right, I have to eat my words about the accuracy of the modelling about where the gun is pointing and rocking! It looks like I do, so I will. Great experiment... In my defense, my skepticism about whether the rocking was affecting aiming was based on seeing ATGs pointing in vastly different direction than their shot goes. IE the direction the gun is pointing hadn't seemed to be connected directly to where it is modelled balistically to be pointing. But: clearly in tanks this is not the case: Ranger's experiment shows that where the gun is pointing is where the shot is going. GaJ
