  1. So are BF now registered for VAT in the UK and paying our HMRC some much needed old rope remittance?
  2. Quite. Some loverly points in that article: VAT is now being collected at the point of sale rather than at the point of importation. This essentially means that overseas retailers sending goods to the UK are expected to register for UK VAT and account for it to HMRC if the sale value is less than €150 (£135). A government spokesperson said: "The new VAT model ensures goods from EU and non-EU countries are treated in the same way and that UK businesses are not disadvantaged by competition from VAT-free imports. "The new system also addresses the problem of overseas sellers failing to pay the right amount of VAT on sales of goods already in the UK at the point of sale, raising an anticipated £300m every year. PI’m guessing that BF have registered for UK VAT and intend to pay it to our HMRC! Also which UK business is disadvantaged when we buy something from BF? Ooh now let me guess - does it sound like HMRC? And as a couple of interviewees point out, how on earth are HMRC gonna collect all this VAT if sellers don’t register?
  3. Hah, haven’t heard that one in a while! (no emoji for a policeman’s t*t, they do have bearskins though. We need to campaign for some UK [ec]centric emojis)
  4. I think the way it works is that the VAT is included in the price when purchasing in the UK from a UK site, but it’s added when purchasing from an overseas (everywhere now) site. It’s a bit like going into WHSmiths and buying a game, no VAT added, it’s in the price, but if you buy same game from US you’ll get charged extra VAT, whether it’s a physical or digital purchase. Some digital purchases might not attract VAT if the seller doesn’t know to charge it, some physical goods won’t attract VAT if under a certain threshold, this threshold exemption doesn’t seem to apply to digital purchases. Looks like Steam will be the way to go ... so long as BF get their full cut I don’t mind.
  5. Love it - he’s clearly a very sophisticated fella, smoking both a pipe and fags. Like his Cloving and Rashun books, coupons with an accent!
  6. If they’re charging in £ it may be ‘cos they have a UK office, then they can set their own pricing I guess
  7. Jaaammmm! Perhaps our HMRC remembered they should get busy reminding folks to charge VAT. Incidentally, I tried logging in to the store whilst using a VPN with an EU IP, didn’t seem to make any difference. Might try again but clear caches and cookies, see if that makes any difference. Otherwise may have to try something more stealthy
  8. Hah, foraging for in the Dorset countryside was probably something to do with it ...
  9. Let’s not mention LSD ever again - it seems to do something very strange to my typing abilities ...
  10. Quite, same happens to me, haven’t tried any work-around yet, waiting to pull the trigger on RT + FB bundle. I can feel an Irish address coming on ... ... where’s the LSD ...
  11. Another thought - as this is RT you were looking at, it may be worth waiting until the Fire & Rubble module comes out and RT goes onto Steam - you might get a different price on Steam? I don’t use Steam so don’t know what the VAT situation might be. Or, one more thought, your buddy could try using a VPN with a US IP address and purchase using PayPal, might get away with no VAT and just have to stump up a little extra for the exchange rate, not $12 though.
  12. One thought - do BF offer gift purchases. If so you could buy the game and gift it to your buddy in UK. Don’t think this would be any skin off BF’s
  13. Not sure it’s related to that particular f**k up. Although I did purchase CMFB in November 2020 ie before the final exit, and was not charged sales tax/VAT/money-for-old-rope*. However, I am pretty sure that, and this applied pre-Brexit, any digital purchases made in any EU country FROM any country outside of EU was supposed to attract VAT at the applicable rate based on the purchasers local VAT rate. Thus 20% VAT on purchases from US by UK buyer. The VAT is that same rate one would pay on a physical product purchased from US and shipped to UK (with value over a certain threshold). iirc This was introduced to make a more level playing field between physical and digital product purchases, physical purchases over a certain value always attract VAT (if the Customs people spot the item). Now, we in the UK may have to pay VAT on BF digital products going forward because, and again please don’t quote me, but iirc BF had an Irish distributor (gateway to EU) so no EU VAT attracted on purchases pre-Brexit, post-Ballsup we, UK, don’t benefit from this (though maybe they do in NI, but that’s another huh hum issue). So our loverly HMRC will do what it wants regarding imports and VAT (sovereignty is a wonderful thing). Confused yet? Of course if we (UK) have a trade deal with the US this could all change, but at the moment I think we are on WTO rules, so who knows?!! * extortion how ever you say it
  14. Strangely post mortem ... ... no hair ... ... distinctly hairy, though I suggest some vitamin D might not go amiss ... or a certain Mr King Cole singing about a Sweet Lorraine (definitely not the hairy Heep’s version though)
  15. Bravo At some point we must tackle Autumn in Lorraine ...
  16. Yikes! Poor Amis! Excellent pics though, shows how effective long grass and lots of foliage are. Your re-mod is coming along nicely That test map doesn’t really have much room for the US troops to manoeuvre. I tried the same and got a face full of hot death for my troubles. Well hidden PAKs behind high bocage and dirt banks = nasty surprise.
  17. Both superbly produced books though a little limited in their scope, they are ideal for the dedicated modeller as the detail in the photos is just fantastic. I think the key is to sign up to publisher and bookseller email lists to get a heads-up on when these types of titles are coming out, that way one can get in quick and avoid disappointment. That's just downright silly. Over time these kind of books do become rare and expensive but what I've also noticed is that prices tend to level out and fall back a bit. I purchased a couple of books some time ago from Remy Spezzano/RZM and for a time their prices were silly but when I went to sell one of them I found the price had fallen back somewhat, though still a bit inflated. Incidentally I think he still has these two for sale on his web store - good investment pieces.
  18. Hah, we aim to please It's a shame that we can't make a 22 degree diagonal bocage tile like your excellent road mod
  19. Great, a third title is something to look forward to, and a reprint is worth waiting for, at least you’re more likely to pay only max cover price then rather than an inflated fleabay price. Well kinda, it’s good for kudos, but they don’t usually benefit financially since the inflated prices are usually charged by secondhand dealers or the odd book seller that realises they can make a quick, extra profit. Having worked in the book industry for many years I know that most publishers work on very slim margins, niche publishers even more so. They are probably just looking to build the numbers while the cover price will either be the same or with an increase for inflation. Enough people making enough noise will spur them on to reprint. Either way it’s worth waiting for the reprints.
