  1. Edwin has offered so many good options regarding offensive and defensive triggers, that I hope it is possible for some of these to be implemented for the AI...the need for a more agressive AI has been noted many times, by many people...
  2. I seriously doubt it...but I understand where you are coming from....if each strategic hex could be zoomed in to fight the battle on a tactical level it might be interesting but would take a hell of a long time to play....think of playing 10 to 20 turns of Panzer General II just to see if you advance one hex on the strategic map....games would never end....... 3. AHHH...fond memories of Hasbro's Squad Leader game...so much profanity...so little time...
  4. While I am no fan of HOI, fair is fair...from what I have read, HOI has sold very well (unfortunately including a purchase from me)....since it boils down to dollars and cents, sometimes the true sence of what a strategic WWII sim should be, is lost....
  5. It's a waste of valuable SC2 development time to attempt this...just play Advance Third Reich if a strategic board game is your inclination...
  6. Well I have been considering pbem play for the first time...if this was the English Premier League, I guarantee I would be the one relegated...
  7. As a kid, one of the games where it was easy to cheat was of course BATTLESHIP....you simply said "miss" and covertly move your ship to another safe location...I however used to occassionally like to cheat in reverse...no matter what was called, I would yell out HIT!...I enjoyed the amazed expressions on my friends faces as they sank my entire fleet..they would soon catch on of course but it was fun while it lasted!..
  8. During the 70's I only played with myself...uh..let me rephrase that... besides that, during the 70's most of my wargaming was solo as I could never find anyone interested in the genre'..there were occasions when I was able to go to The Complete Strategist in Montclair New Jersey, and play against some human opponents, but my ability to get there were too few to my liking...I understand the virtue of playing against a Human opponent, and as Rambo has pointed out more than once, playing against the AI does not count...for me though, it is a matter of time and perhaps pbem is the way for me to go...but, I do enjoy playing against the AI and there are titles from Matrix, HPS, and Shrapnel that have a decent AI opponents within their games....
  9. Bi weekly turns with variable regional weather conditions.....if I had a nickle for each time I posted that sentence I could have...well I think just about 35 cents actually...
  10. Well, World in Flames is already out there, and has been for some time...it is a WWII strategic sim that is for hotseat and pbem play....but even ADG recognized that this game needed an AI, which is why they have handed the project over to Matrix Games....for me, WIF and SC2 are my two "cant wait" games to get...I have great confidence that the AI for SC2 will be much better than it is now....
  11. Of course people would care if there was no AI...not everyone has the time or inclination to play pbem/multiplayer games, so an AI is needed....hopefully as time moves on, the AI in games will continually be improved... [ December 01, 2003, 11:55 AM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ]
  12. Carnivale is an HBO series which pits the battle between good and evil set in a 1930's carny...one of the central characters is Brother Justin who has found preaching on the radio as a means to bring his flock together for the impending Apocalypse...Brother Justin appears to actually be a demon though the lines between heaven and hell are not clearly drawn in this story....Season One just concluded last night, and I found your final thoughts mirrored the show....just an uncanny coincidence....
  13. Summary: Whether people like it or not, there is a war that battles everyday, between Good & Evil, Light & Dark...etc. Maybe I should be a preacher. Rambo...have you been watching Carnivale? My point in the earlier post was simple...you have raised these issues previously and I do not doubt their validity...but it is up to Hubert to recognize them and attempt to make corrections in SC2...but who is to say that a new method of cheating will arise with SC2?....I have read many forums about many games where these cheating issues are also raised...it isn't so much that the games are capable of being cracked and cheats implemented, but that there will always be individuals who will make the attempt to create them...to these misguided people, it's as much a passion to hack a game as it is to simply play it....it's a sad state of human nature which unfortunately will never change.....
  14. PGII is good and I do still play it, but PGI is still my favorite...there are some very good Russian battles with a fairly high unit count that are still fun to play...
  15. I have the Windows version but on XP, it runs too fast, the sound is all screwed up, and I cannot effectively control the mouse as it jumps around like a blind cat in the Fulton Fish Market..I thought using the compatibility Wizard for Win95 or Win98 would help but it doesn't..
  16. I couldn't get the Compatibility Wizard to improve the performance of Panzer General on XP.
  17. Errant..if you have an additional thought to add to your post, just edit it.......
  18. JJ...this is an old post from OLD PATCH...I always enjoyed his posts...hope he is ok........
  19. Geez..and here I thought Old Patch returned to the ranks....
  20. Well, based on how Errant has written numerous posts in other threads, it's obvious we have a 'post troll' here...best to be ignored rather than acknowledged...... [ November 18, 2003, 07:30 PM: Message edited by: J P Wagner ]
  21. Hence the need for a break..all games start to wear thin, it's just the way the cycle of gaming is... but once Hubert has the ability to announce what SC2 entails, and a new SC2 forum emerges, we'll all be going at it again with much fervor....
