  1. With thanks to one of the experts on Axis History Forum: According to a situation report of the 5 GTA's staff: During 9 October 3 Guards Tank Corps crossed the Miniia River, by the end of the day 3 Guards Tank Brigade - forest 1 km east of Budvieciai, 18 Guards Tank Brigade - forest 1 km north-east of Yakubovo (Jokubiske), 19 Guards Tank Brigade - took Genaiciai, 2 Guards Motor Rifle Brigade - with 3 and 18 Brigades. Losses during the day 3 tanks destroyed and 3 damaged. Presence of strong German armor is noted. From an earlier report by the end of 8.10 the corps had operational armor: 61 T-34 6 M4A2 20 SU-57 17 SU-76 including 13 T-34 and 1 M4A2 in 3 GTBr, 24 T-34 and 3 M4A2 in 18 GTBr, 22 T-34 and 1 M4A2 in 19 GTBr. Well, there's my OOB for the Russian side.
  2. Eastern front book favourites. Well, there are some good ones around, usually the expensive ones. Everything from Leaping Horseman publications, like 'Objective Ponyri' and the battle of Stalingrad . All books by Stephen Hamilton (Oder-front especially), all books by Axel Urbanke, especially his book on the Panther-Battalion "Brandenburg', which als includes the history of the I/Pz. R. 26. Books by Douglas E. Nash, especially his book on the battle of Charkow 1943, books by Rolf Hinze (especially on the collapse of Hr.Gr. Mitte in the summer of 1944 etc. etc. Another gem is 'Sd Kfz 250/1 GD Living History' by Richard Stone, about the recon battalion of GD, a pictorial reenactment with hundreds of pictures, which really give a realistic feel of how life must have been for a soldier in 1944. If you have a more specific subject in mind let me know and I will try to recommend you certain books.
  3. It sure is. That made it rather confusing to find the right location at first. Funny enough my first name is Jacob.
  4. Hattori. I've posted a thread at the Axis History yesterday, so with a bit of luck one of the Russians there will help me. They seem to be the experts on the subject of Soviet OOB's. I think Prit Buttar is a superb author, not only on the war in the East in WW2, but also in WW1. I've just bought his new book "Russia's Last Gasp, the eastern front 1916-1917", about the Brusilov Offensive. Well written, at least that is my first impression. I've read 'Between Giants', also a very good book. His book on the battle of Eastern Prussia in 1944-1945 is also worth reading. Glantz seems to concentrate mostly on the early years of the war in the East, so 1941-1943. Hopefully he will handle the battle for the Baltics and Eastern Germany soon too. There aren't many good books about the last year in the East. As for reading German. Well, Germany is our neighbour and very important to the Netherlands, so we are taught at school to speak German. It is a beautiful language and not unsimiliair to dutch in some respects.
  5. Hattori. I've read "Abwehrkämpfe am Nordflügel der Ostfront 1944-1945" today (well, not the whole book ) and I can't find any specific details on the Russian units that fought near Jokubavas. So I think that the 29th Tank Corps as an educated guess is as good as any other. This book is the most detailed account of the fighting in the Baltics I know of, so if no other details show up I will just pick one or several of the units you've mentioned. Thank you again for helping. Much appreciated.
  6. Place name: Jokubavas Other names: Jokūbavas, Iokubavas, Jokubavas, Jokubavo, Jokubavos, Jokubiske, Jokūbavas, Jokūbavos, Jokūbiškė, Lakubov, Yakubovo, Yokubavas, Yokubishki, Йокубавас Country: Lithuania
  7. Hattori. Thank you very taking the time to help me, I appreciate it. Yes, 29th Tank Corps is a possible candidate. Today I will do some more research. Could you please tell me which books or sites you've got this information from?
  8. I would very much appreciate help with identifying the Russian units involved in the fighting around Jokubavas, Lithuania (East of Krottingen) on the 9th of October 1944 during the Russian Memel Offensive. Elements of the German GD Panzer division launched a counterattack there with some success. I suspect elements of the 5th Guards Tank Army fought at Jokubavas, but need the help of experts on the OOB of the Red Army to identify the exact units, preferably as detailed as possible. I need this information for a scenario I'm working on and hope to release this autumn.
  9. I also remember playing a great scenario situated in Charkow March 1943. I really enjoyed myself with Steel Panthers. But the Cold war turning hot-scenarios were my favorites. Red Army tank masses against Dutch Leopard tanks. Man, if only we could have that in CM. I would gladly pay double the normal price for a Cold War CM, situated in the 80s.
  10. I did, great game. A classic. I loved the air attacks, especially anti-tankhelicopters.
  11. Great stuff! This is the only CM game I haven't bought yet. I'm waiting for the NATO-module, but this sure is making me doubt my decision to wait.
  12. Ithikial_AU. Thank you for your reply. Believe me I've tried everything apart from Voodoo, but the brush is there to stay.
  13. ASL Veteran. Thank you for your reply. Yes, I'm building a map from scratch, but changed some parts of it. I've tried as you suggested, but no succes. Would you be willing to PM me your email-adress, so I can send you the map to have a look at it yourself?
  14. PM sent, Ian. I´ve noticed that it also happens on other spots on the map, where I´ve removed haystacks. Small brush stays behind. You can even see the dark spots of the removed haystacks if you look at the map from above. So apart from the remaining brush, also dark spots where the removed haystacks stood.
  15. Thank you, Myles, I'm going to try HITS mode, as you advised. I have to give this great game more attention and your post helps. I like your fantasy for CM as well. Perhaps with certain rules like people use for board wargames, it can be simulated to a certain level.
  16. Thank for your help, guys. I've removed all foliage and changed the tiles into pavement and back to crop again, but the brush keeps turning up (even THROUGH the pavement). I'm pretty sure this is some kind of error in the editor itself. it's not a big thing, but perhaps something BF should look at.
  17. I have a question for those among us who have experience with making maps. While experimenting I did place a number of haystacks on a field with crops. I've decided to remove them again, but while the haystacks can be removed, some kind of brush remains. I've tried placing the crop over it again, but it still turns up. Has anyone ever experienced this and how can I solve it?
  18. I still love IL-2. Nothing like a good dogfight to burn away the stress of the day. I've got dozens of games on my pc, but 9 out of 10 times I'm playing CM. Last summer I bought Scourge of War: Waterloo and I almost haven't touched it, although I love the Napoleonic Wars. CM is too much fun and since I'm this time determined to finish my first scenario I've more or less decided to concentrate on CM when I have time to spare. Atlantic Fleet is an exception though. Man, I love those screaming shells hitting steel or just cause huge splashes in the sea. Really makes you feel like the Allmighty (with all respect).
  19. I still play the dutch missions from time to time, especially 'De Hinderlaag', (the ambush). Although the dutch army has been reduced quite badly since that time, I still hope to see the dutch return in the NATO module for CMBS. Thank God the dutch government has woken up and is investing more money in the armed forces again. Even tanks are on the menu again, I've heard.
  20. I've bought this book some time ago, John. Although 100 pages or so of it exists of vehicle facts and color profiles of vehicles (which don't belong in a book like this to my opinion) it also contains quite good information on the battle for Praga from the end of July until October 1944 which is hard to find elsewhere. Decent text and acceptable pictures. Not great, but not bad. There's also a book called Warsaw 1: tanks in the uprising, August 1944-October 1944. Same calibre.
  21. Hi mech.gato,

Did you also made your Farm flavor objects mod (with dead cows and horses) for CMRT? And if so, where can I find it?

    Thank you.

    Kind regards,

    Aragorn/Jacob

  22. Well, I don't know about this book, because I haven't read it yet. But in 'Stalin's secret agents, the subversion of Roosevelt's government' it is mentioned that indications of the coming attack came from several directions, including from dutch intelligence in the Netherlands Indies. '
