  1. The AVRE and Chaffee are in, but I'm not sure about the Cromwell.
  2. Heh, my first game gave me an excellent impression, it brought memories of Chance Encounter back to my mind... It was a smallish ME set in North Africa, 1942, I took the Brits against Germans. Bough some Matildas, Marmon-Herringtons, Stuarts (these are definately my favourite tanks at the moment, got to love the model and textures, 3 machine guns and the speed combined with covered arcs ), trucks towing 25 pounders and lots of infantry. The map turned out to be absolutely lovely, sweet rolling dunes, lots of wadis, small depressions, oasis here and there and a road dividing the map in two going through depression in the middle with some buildings and excellent reverse slope positions. Very nice map with lots of tactical choices to make. I made good use of the terrain and made it to the village first, losing a Matilda and a truck & 25 pounder to a Marder. My men took positions in the palms, buildings and rocks and readied themselves to fight off any attackers crossing the small slope. Then things started to get ugly, with some panzers showing up, promptly whupping my Stuarts and Herringtons. What I had left I moved to the village, and took some pot shots with the Matildas. Much to my surprise the AI started to flank me, and, what turned out was one sweet, desperate battle with the DAK pouring through to that small little depression with the village. Lots of cover, lots of intense close range firefights, hot molten TNT, fires, explodey stuff. Very close call, managed to rout the Germans, no vehicles were left alive, lots of burning Matilda and Panzer hulks littering the desert with the few surviving british soldiers preparing for afternoon tea. CMAK rocks!

  5. Yes, CW get Bren teams and the US get BAR teams. I just love how the Bren sounds, mmm
  6. So, is there anyone out here who would enjoy being soundly spanked, preferably on the hot deserts of North Africa? If not, please Thank you for your cooperation. Have a very nice day. Really, I mean that. [ November 29, 2003, 11:32 PM: Message edited by: oneirogen ]
  7. I saw you edit that post, probably upon the realization that your attempt at an insult sucks. As do you. It's that special kind of suckage, the kind that would rip Clint Eastwood's face clean off even if you were two postal codes away from him. I hate you all like I hate my pet power shovel    Edited to add this: I FORGOT TO TELL YOU I AM PLAYING CMAK RIGHT NOW AS I TYPE! Also, knowing your deranged sense of humour, I expect someone of you to state how this would explain how my posts apparently lack coherency, wit, style, panache, glamour, random nonsensical statements concerning plancton, silly mexican hats and donkeys having rampant sex, so I decided to be a bit pre-emptive today. 8. I just thought I'd announce exactly how much I hate the lot of you, participating in what maybe very well be the biggest waste of bandwidth on the Internet, right after goatse.cx, or maybe aol.com, can't really decide. Although you aren't worth this post, nor the hatred in the form of emoticons and the verbal equilevant of hot molten TNT (atleast what I think would be) I shall soon unleash, I still posted this, but I blame the excessive amounts of beer and the fact that it is 5:29 AM. Tally ho, here we go! 9. Not exactly the hardest thing to mod, though. Finding the burning tank wav is the most laborous part of the process, and that can be solved with a quick forum query. Just open the wav with the standard Windows Audio Recorder and tune the volume down.
  10. You do realize that the +2 experience means regular troops are crack and veterans are elite? This is a hell of an improvement, and there's a reason you don't see them often in scenarios. They really kick some serious posterior. Even regular troops are supposed to have some combat experience in CM, not to mention crack troops who have fought for long and hard, you would kind of expect them to have developed quite a keen sense of noticing good ambush spots, spotting muzzle flashes, dust clouds and smaller indicators of where incoming fire is coming and noticing smaller things that might indicate the enemy is dug-in somewhere. Not to mention keeping their cool and the ability to act professionally under fire. Remember CM is a computer game, and things have to be abstracted. Having played the full game for some time now, I can't say this kind of behaviour would be commonplace, atleast with the medium experience troops I play with.
  11. Well, having played several QBs and scenarios, I've experienced very few gun hits. In the demo, I only had one gun hit in the 6-8 times I played the scenarios. A Marmon-Herrington of mine got some 20mm hits in the turret, knocking out the gun and some crewmen, and...err...actually...that's about the only gun hit I remember. And I've played some 10+ quick battles and a few scenarios.
  12. B2W, I interpret that to mean back to windows. Yes, I've had some quite tedious issues with CDV CMAK, each game I play with another CDV build crashes on first turn except one which crashed on turn 6 or something, the autosaves always crash. Have no problems playing against someone with a BFC build of the game though.
  13. Oh fs, the forum just lost my post because of excess smileys. I'll try to sum it up shortly. The box reads "ENGAGE THE ENEMY IN THE AFRICAN DESERT FROM 1940 TO 1942", err, what happened to 1943? Also "ARE YOU ABLE TO DEPLOY THUNDEROUS TANKS LIKE PERSHING, KING TIGER OR FIREFLY? THEN YOU'RE THE COMMANDER OF CHOICE FOR COMBAT MISSION 3 - AFRIKA KORPS". They also say the game contains 7 campaigns. Misleading BS if you ask me. Also the HD requirements are screwed, the box states 900mb when the game takes up 1500mb... Then the copy protection. It takes upwards a minute to start the game and it churns the CD and occasionally bluescreens due to "cd not present". Never had these issues with BFC versions or any other copy protected game (sigh, looks like I'll be doing some cracking today) I guess this is what you get for being greedy, couldn't resist seeing CMAK in stores already, a week before BFC ships it. Couldn't even have ordered it since I don't have credit card access right now, but I should've tried to think somfink up. But, enough with the whining. The game rocks! Two thumbs up for BFC! Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll return back to the desert to play with my Portees, Deacons, Marmon-Herringtons and Lees.
  14. Err, if this is the case, I do wonder what currency I have been using for the last, umm, few years? Those cheats.
  15. I've seen them fired at ATGs (lost an 50mm AT gun to a single rifle grenade, the bastids!)and HMGs, also I could swear I've seen them shot at regular infantry squads too. I don't think they're the best possible AT weapon to have
  16. Umm, I hate to tell you this, but I happen to live there In fact, I'm currently fighting the urge to rush to the stores first thing tomorrow to pick my precious copy. What is keeping me back is the fact that my exams start tomorrow and end on friday (   ), funny you should mention the birthday candles, since friday happens to be my birthday and I think I know just the perfect gift to get myself Nevertheless, I do know I'll be playing CMAK long before Madmatt bothers to send your precious packet in the mail! Cheers
  17. What silly flags? If you're expecting swastikas in your BFC version you're going to be disappointed. The CDV patches were released at the same time af the BFC patches. It really is amazing the stuff people make up to justify their prejudices. </font>
  18. Nope, haven't seen it. The only new movies that have come out that I've watched have been the LOTR ones. Quite offtopic. Animations like that in CM would be a wet dream for me, though
  19. Who is he? I have a question about Finding Nemo. Were they modelling (invisible) water currents? For example, if a fish uses its fins, were the effects the fin has on the water (such as little vortexes, pressure changes etc) factored in, even though it's not directly visible? (in order to lead to its effects on vegetation, sand, or other fishes' movements). Everything hung together just too well to believe they just 'drew' everything. </font>
  20. Err, there is a backblast effect in CMBB. I've had several schrecks panic and set houses to fire.
