  1. During lunch hour I run some tests with pillboxes vs armoured cars with rapid firing guns. Setup was roughly: - flat terrain - 1 pb (75mm) vs 10 ACs with 20mm guns - firing distance of about 1km ACs usually zero'd in after few shots and mostly scored normal hits with maybe 3-5 "firing slit penetrations" per turn, all combined. Few runs with green pb vs reg ACs: Takes only 1 or 2 penetrations to panic and pb was usually bailing after the first turn. Few runs with veteran pb vs reg ACs: Pb takes a few penetrations to panic, but despite panic and further penetrations just keeps firing. (Fanatics maybe, but occured every time.) One pb was actually panicked for 4 turns and during that time ko'd all ACs, only after firing stopped it reverted back to shaken. Not much of statistical accuracy with such a small sample (ran out of lunch time ), but my first impression was that at least veteran pbs seemed to be quite resistant to small caliber guns. Greens seemed to run as easily as before. Topi
  2. ! In case someone has not yet noticed, CMAK is already availabe through shops. At least Dose in Helsinki center is already selling it, despite CDV still stating that release date is 28th. Topi
  3. ! It actually seems that the CDV version of CMAK (english) has already hit shop shelves at least in Finland. I am just installing mine  I was very surprised to find it this early. Topi
  4. Mild spoilers . . . . I did basicly that, broke thru the enemy line with massed suppressive fire and then widened the gap by attacking along the enemy line so that the follow thru troops could exit safely. Only problem was the time limit with the second reinforcement of exitable troops -- meant some serious running for them, as I initially cleared the opposite flank and was still on the process of rolling up that flank when they came in Then again, I seem to have the same problem with every attack scenario - it is quite easy to rip apart defences with systematic suppression, but I go so "slowly and surely" that I hit time limits. As usual, the key seemed to be using enough suppressive fire, first on probable enemy locations and concentrated fire after exact enemy positions were id'd. After that few squads were enough to finish the survivors. Topi [ January 03, 2003, 01:10 PM: Message edited by: Topi ]
  5. Mainly 2) and 6). IMNSHO, only thing CDV and other non-standard copy protection using companies are good for is boycotting. I totally understand the reason why BFC decided to make a deal with them but still, I sincerely hope that they figure something else out by the time CM2 is ready - hopefully something closer to the original manifesto. 1) is also a valid point, with 3), 4) and 5) not being of any real importance for me. 6. Hi, How about the deadline for AARs of games that have already ended, is that also March? I have a plenty of "will-finalize-this-soon" AARs
  7. I have also not received a startup from Ghost Dog. (Playing as allies against him) So Fate has another full game to start. Topi
  8. Sounds good, never too many unbalanced scenarios around. Count me in if the time schedule is not too tight? (Any estimates about how long participants have for completing the first set of matches, btw?) Topi -- yet another Finn

  10. Ah, a chance to vote for the greatest masterpieces of his evilness. *thinks* I do not have CM with me now, so names are from memory -- I hope I got them right and I seem to remember that these ones were Rune's. I must admit that I have not played scenarios from the latest packs - tried to recover from CM addiction, but that proved quite impossible "Tin Tanks" was bloody and very nice. "Snowmen" had a nice flavor of brutal knife fighting, as did "Foggy Bottom". "Rumble in the rubble" -- boy, did that one hurt.. "Just another town" was a nailbiter right to the bitter end. Topi
  11. Hi, Did anyone ever find out why this happened? Just asking because after installing 1.12 I started to have similar problems every now and then. (maybe once every 4 games or so, in all types of game (tcp, ai, pbem)). I also have vortex 2 card, so problem probably lies therein. Topi
  12. Flak vehicles being treated as buttoned would otherwise explain this, but those sharpshooters will target and shoot at them without any targeting order from player, so apparently tacAI thinks that sharpshooters can hurt flak vehicles. For example Chamberlain's excellent "Encyclopedia of german tanks of WW2" shows some pictures of these flak vehicles and gun crew has quite limited protection, basicly only the gun's shield. So I would be a bit surprised if they are meant to be treated as buttoned. Topi
  13. The funny thing is that I do not think AA vehicles are too resistant to other types of small arms - they die quite nicely with mgs, med. range inf fire etc. It is just sharpshooters they are resistant to =) And of course anything over and including 20mm with small blast value.. Could it be that sharpshooter just has a really low FP rating which is then used vs vehicles? Topi
  14. Hi, After having faced about gazillion german flak vehicles in QBs, I started to notice that sharpshooters have very little effect on them. This of course needed to be tested a little. I set up a small scenario with 25 elite US sharpshooters (10 ammo each) against one regular german 37mm flak vehicle (not tank but the truck carrying a gun, number of which just escaped me..) , with range around 150 - 300 meters (open grass box lined with trees, sharpshooters hidden in trees). After having expended 250 units of ammo from sharpshooters, I noted that vehicle had still not suffered any casualties! (Second run of the scenario ended the same way, too.) And I am under impression that these AA-vehicles are not armoured and gun crew has only limited protection behind the gun shield? The vehicle clearly perceives sharpshooters as a threat and tries to reverse away from the closest one, but is not actually harmed in any way. I tried a seach with no luck, so I was left wondering if this is a feature, a bug or was I only hit with bad run of random number generator? Ah, and the version is 1.12. Topi
  15. ! (about Tin Tanks) It was probably in pack #2 or #3. I, too, recommend Tin Tanks. Wrong Hill (by same author, IIRC) is also nice, if somewhat bigger. Vossenack - Second Job by WBW is very good, if you want some ferocious city fighting. (Then again, anything by WBW or Rune is worth playing!)
