Activations - how to lose a customer
Javaslinger replied to altipueri's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
This goes in the tech support forum... Why does everyone insist on whining in public? -
All this whining over $10, etc... Is anyone playing? I'd love to hear some impressions on the improvements. I found the graphical improvements from CMBN to CMBI to be fantastic. Has the 2.0 upgrade brought CMBN up to the level of CMBI???? What about gameplay? Thanks,

The pricing strategy is interesting but not ethical
Javaslinger replied to togi's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Hello everyone.. You're all missing the point here... The development costs for the 2.0 upgrade were NOT payed by CMBI.... Even if the coding changes to made CMBN into 2.0 were minor, the graphical enhancements to CMBN were absolutely NOT. And in no way were any of them payed for by CMBI. All of the textures for all of the units, tanks, other vehicles, and terrain had to be redone for the 2.0 upgrade. That is what took the bulk of the time. In addition, the QB maps and all of the scenarios had to be upgraded to 2.0. NONE of that was 'payed' for in CMBI and only had to be done so that CMBN could be upgraded to 2.0. So yes, not only is $10 trivial, but it is ENTIRELY justified... -
I'm spoiled by the other publishers of games I enjoy such as Paradox with their development diaries reasonably frequent activity on their forums, and especially by Stardock who actively engage with their community. Battlefront's total silence policy and inactivity on the forums has always felt heavy handed to me. While I love their games and the work they do, I can't help but have a little bitter taste in my mouth by the way I feel less than appreciated as a customer. At times it seems as if they are doing us a favor by even publishing this little niche genre for us... (which I suppose may just be true) They may have their reasons, but I suspect they are largely based on their personalities.

I don't recall but I thought they were shooting for a September release...

Touch (at least on Android) doesn't appear to be getting much attention from Battlefront... I"m a little (or a lot) disappointed by this... tempered only by the fact that it really barely cost anything...

It's available through amazon app store, but be aware that the android version has not received the latest upgrade and they appear to be in no hurry to do it.

Turns out the update has not yet been released for Android... It will be but no date has been set... Now I know what it feels like to be a Mac user.... -

If someone would make live video's of their turns and planning with commentary I think I could watch it all day long.... -
Update 1.4 on Android?

Would be nice if they paid attention to this forum.... -
I just purchased CM Touch from the Amazon store for my Samsung Galaxy S3 and noticed it's version 1.3. Is this the most current version for Android? Will there be a 1.4? Thanks, Javaslinger

Works on Galaxy S II

Just one more reason I can't wait to upgrade to the Galaxy S III from my ancient Droid X -
I'm not sure how many are familiar with Let's Plays, but they are essentially recorded video AAR's... A good one is done slowly with lots of commentary describing the players thoughts, reasoning, game mechanics, etc, etc.... There are a few Combat Mission Let's Plays but none that I've found are very good. They're generally done by people with no experience with the game, no tactical sense, and so on... I would encourage a grog/CM expert out there to strap on his boots and do a great Let's Play for us. They are incredible learning tools when done well and very entertaining to watch. Not to mention, excellent advertising as they make a complex game like CMFI more accessible. We have been getting a good dose of AAR's recently, and they are also terrific, but great Let's Plays are hard to beat... Perhaps a quick battle Let's Play would be a good place to start... I would do one, but I suck at CM and need all the help I can get!!

AAR-AXIS - Clearing the Niscemi Highway

Very much enjoying your AAR! I'm curious about your feeling on the spotting issues. Does it seem, odd, buggy, unusually unlucky, or just normal? -
The real Out of Eight review (text)
Javaslinger replied to sfhand's topic in Combat Mission Fortress Italy
That would be GREAT! Though I highly discourage over-exaggerated accents for comedic value... As a frequent listener to Let's Play's I can promise you the the end results comedic value is often the only thing highly exaggerated... -

I think combat mission could use a good Let's Play video by an experienced player. There are a few but they're clearly done by starcraft or fps transplants... I love how they mass select a platoon or more of infantry and just move them forward without any specifics... AAR's are great but they can't hold a candle to a good Let's Play. Being able to watch a CM game 'live' with running commentary on tactics, etc by a good player would be a wonderful thing. Let's Play's are also great advertising when they help newcomers grasp the game and demonstrate the tactical scope and possibilities with this engine! I would do one, but I am no CM guru by a longshot... Volunteers???
