Mortars out of contact...
Javaslinger replied to Javaslinger's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Thanks everyone for all the advice on tips with regards to keeping mortars in contact! Very helpful! However, there is something I'm still struggling with that I think I'm not communicating very well. When a mortar is displayed as 'Out of Contact' or 'Not deployed' it cannot be selected. Thus there is no way to find it on the map from that leader - quickly... Thus I need to 'manually' find it but I'm struggling figuring out which 'Out of Contact' mortar corresponds to which mortar on the map - since they cannot be selected when out of contact. is that more clear? thanks, Javaslinger -
Finding it too hard (again)

My advice would be to warn of a SPOILER laden message... -
Mortars out of contact...

But can you tell which mortars are out of contact without finding them and selecting? seems like you should be able to just click on them and figurevit out from the leader screen which is listing them as being out of contact. -
I'm running into all kinds of issues keeping my mortars in contact in a scenario. First, when you go to the leader artillery screen and it lists the mortars which are out of contact, is there an easy way to figure out which ones they are??? If a mortar is not in contact with it's platoon leader, can it be in contact via other nearby leades? Is there any kind of designation of the UI as to whether a mortar is deployed other than going to the admin buttons and checking to see if it's green? Thanks, Ken

This issue I think many of us have is that it clears prior orders. Why? As mentioned previously, if it just added a movement path it would be one thing... But why is it clearing orders???
-
Pretty sure there is one... CTRL-Z... it just doesn't work!
-
I would have been OK with it if it hadn't cleared all the orders I'd placed....

Really really REALLY annoying thing just happened... I am starting a quick battle of about 2 companies... I painstakingly position each squad, support unit, leader, etc... Then I painstakingly give the first turn orders to each squad, unit, leader, etc... Then I decide to re-position my irrelevant battalion HQ... I double click it to make sure I've got the right leader selected... Then I re-position it... Thereby, moving every damn unit... So I re-position it back... Thereby moving every unit back where I wanted it... No harm no foul. I deselect everything but the battalion HQ and move it... Satisfied I double check a few things and discover that EVER DAMN UNIT had it freaking orders cleared.... WTF... Ken

I've switched to the alternate hotkeys, but I can't seem to figure out what the hotkey for clear target is? Is seems blank.... I tried space, but that isn't it. Any ideas? Thanks, Ken

As I've said on multiple occasions, I still believe we should remove all buildings until such time as we can accurately model broken windows and the resulting wounds, paint chipping, wood chipping, and indoor plumbing...

It is difficult to tell which sound mods work well together. Some are clear in what they affect but others seem general so I'm unsure as to which I can mix and match. I have most of vein's support chatter, Mord's Immersive voices, Mike engine noise mod, and Oddballs sound mod... Vein also has a sound mod, but I'm unclear if it can work withe these. What is the 'ultimate' combo pack of sound mods? Thanks, Ken

Request for some tactical guides... :)
Javaslinger replied to Javaslinger's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I feel like I have so much to learn! But the fact that you actually need to pay attention to which units have BARs, zooks, etc... and that it's not just abstracted across the squad is pretty freakin' awesome... -
I need a noob's guide to... 1) How to recon 2) How to achieve fire superiority 3) How to pace your attack and now when to commit. And to do all of this without getting shot to hell in the process... That would be my main issue... As of now I... 1) Recon by seeing where great masses of my soldiers perish 2) Achieve fire superiority only far from the front line... Often in the rear area where my broken squads regroup 3) Commit in all the wrong places... Thanks! Ken

H2H Helper 1.4.0 Available - please upgrade
Javaslinger replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I did find a reasonable workaround... I set my downloads to 'always ask for destination' which still opens to the default download folder. Then in the default folder I put a shortcut to the Incoming files folder in the CMBN folder... This means it's a simple click to put it there rather than many clicks and drags... -

I have a question about how to set this up for non-dropbox games.... I'm playing with more people than not who simply email me their turns. My default download directory is not the 'incoming turn' folder. So I am forced to move them there each time. Is there some functionality to assist in this in HTHhelper? Or should I campaign each opponent for dropbox? Or is there some way to set up by email downloads that are CM turn files to be put at a different location that the default download directory. I presently use yahoo or gmail for my games. Thanks -

Unknown reason for immobilized?

This would be the kind of thread I feel the developers could take a sec to drop a quick comment on.. Is it WAD? Is is being looked into? -
So I'm playing my first quick battle to get the hang of things.... I carefully plan my moves so that my squads are ready to leave their jump off point precisely as the barrage begins... Well, I've got 1 battery of 2 off-board 81's, 2 on board 81's and 2 onboard 60's... First, I forget to deploy them... Then, it takes seemingly forever for them to even begin spotting rounds... Minutes go by and I'm getting a round here and a round there... I'm like.. that's it??? Oh, well, send in the troops then I guess under the cover of this hardly withering barrage... So the troops begin their advance across largely open ground from 3 directions and I'm cringing waiting for the MG's to cut them to pieces... 5 sec, 10 sec, 20 sec.... Then suddenly all freaking HELL breaks loose... Suddenly my mortars REALLY start landing and the target area gets FREAKING PASTED!!! I see little Germans running in all directions... Explosion after explosion! 2 buildings just collapse... Wow.... That's more like it...

General advice on Quick Battle purchasing?
Javaslinger replied to Javaslinger's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
So is the consensus that all of the extra XO's are worthless except for gamey buddy aid's? Or does having a battlefield saturated with leadership units improve overall C&C? -
About to play my first quick battle... ever... in all time... Let's say 1900ish points... First off, is that batallion level? Company level? Somewhere in between? Infantry only... attacking a small town... Not much to go on yes, but I don't have a clue where to begin, so lets start with that! EDIT: Against an actual real life human being whom is battle tested and seasoned.... Thanks, Ken

So I bought the shock force bundle some time ago and installed it on both my laptop and home PC. All seemed well... Late summer my home PC died (hard drive) and I got a new laptop. Subsequently I got a new home PC as well. Fortunately I was able to unlicense the modules on my laptop but not on the PC. So, as you can imagine, we I went to install Shock Force and the bundle on my new laptop and new PC I ran into licensing issues. I was able to get 2 of the 3 modules licensed on the PC. I could not license any on the laptop. So I wrote an email to elicense@battlefront.com and requested that the key be reset. Several days later they said it had been done and I was able to get the last module on the PC licensed. Unfortunately, I can only get 2 of the 3 modules licensed on the laptop before it says that the key is used up. Not sure what to do at this point. I would expect the key coming with the bundle pack would have to be good for 6 licenses but it appears to be capping out at 3. Any advice? Thanks, Ken
