  1. This sounds a bit like the next gen Combat Mission. All front included.. upgraded system and graphics... Am I totally wrong? Thanks, Ken
  2. I've taken a bit of a (8 month) hiatus from the game and I've comin' back. I was wondering what the action is like these days? Still easy to get email games going? What's new? I was never into the who mod thing, just the battles and scenarios... Anything new upcoming? Thanks, Ken
  3. Can someone at least suggest a couple good beginner scenarios?
  4. Programmed instruction! Exactly! I think battlefront or some industrious scenario designers could come up with a good series of 5 - 10 training battles in no time at all along with some short bits of advice... Or just compile them along with the mounds of tactics articles already wrtitten. Perhaps another book??? The compendium they just wrote is close with articles and scenarios corresponding too them, but not quite programmed instruction. Anyone want to tackle the task? I think it could be invaluable to rookies and newbies and further the growth of the game. Ken
  5. Can someone suggest a series of scenarios that I can play to work my way through strategy? For example, the first might be a small infantry battle, the second introduces some artillery, the next some combined arms, the next a city, the next terrain elevation effects? I'm not talking about something someone created specifically for training but more of a progression of scenarios that might help me not feel overwhelmed as I work through the game. Advanced Squad Leader had something like this I recall.... Just figured one of you might have put this together already... I have both CMBB and CMAK so scenarios from either and both would be great. Thanks, Ken
  6. Hello to you of the wee village de Peng, I've been away from CM for a bit and I believe that whence upon a time this was where you found the weaker players congregating. Insuch that I'm out of practice I thought some of that sorty of cannon fodder might be nice to warm up on. Are there any of the more sickly sort of CM players still hanging out in here for my sport? I haven't gotten CMAK just yet, so it'll have to be a CMBB match. I prefer a scenario vs. QB and something smaller to start with I guess. I'll take either side. As for my own skill level... I suppose on a large enough scale I might be willing to call myself a 10. I'm the sort of player that you might like to pull out of your bag of tricks that little scheme you'd never dare try vs a good player. With myself, litterly anything could happen.... Anyone willing? Ken
  7. Can someone suggest some general tips for effective use of the various level HQ units? Let me start by telling you what little I know of they're capabilities.... I know they can spot for mortars and other onboard artillery. I know they help with morale. Units in contact have a big morale boost and react to orders faster. I believe that the higher the level the HQ unit, the more magnified these effects are?? Uh, that's about it. What have I got wrong and what am I missing??? Thanks, Ken
  8. Hey looks great. I haven't been around the boards in many months and I'm curious about something. Back then there was another rather complicated campaign system being worked on. They had done 1941 and I believe they were working on 1942... Biltong! That was it! Billtongs campaign rules. How does this compare to that and whaterever happened to it?? Thanks, Ken
  9. Another couple questions... I think I figured out the previous one... Why does the Battle Group sheet list 3 squads per platoon when it appears I have 4 per platoon? did I purchase the wrong Mot. Inf. Co? The quality level I rolled for earlier. I assume that is only for the 'additional' task force units I purchase? So when selecting them I set it too green (what I rolled), but when purchasing my battle group troops I leave it at regular? I rolled a heavily wooded map. Makes all my damn armor almost worthless.... Let's hope my 1350 points worth of artillery does something... Is it normal after purchasing everything, for their to be several hundred 'points' left on the QB selection screen? I bought what I rolled in each task force catagory... Thanks, Ken
  10. Running progress report... Ok, this initial battle I generated in order to pick my taskforces... Well, that is a pain! I guess due to the fact I rolled a lg battle, there is a TON of stuff to wrtie down. Plus sincle I relatively new, I'm having a hard time determining what's part of a company, what's extra, what's a platoon by itself, etc. Question: My Initial point toatl was 3503, but reduced to 1832 after casualties and dividing by the assault factor. Is the 3503 what I use and the 1832 for the allies? OR do I use 1832? Thanks, can't wait to start my first battle... Javaslinger
  11. Little confused... I rolled up a large battle... x3 Then I got large arty... which I rolled up 450... Do I multiply that by 3 for a total of 1250 arty???
  12. I'm finally doing.. I'm reading through the players guide for my first battle.. Damned exciting... I hope to keep a running AAR of my progress. A quick question. Is the 'autoparameter' sheet workable with 2.2.? Or should I just roll my own if I want to use 2.2? I think the fact that the '41 rules are 'done' has finally gotten me onto the horse. I one of those guys who has to have the latest patch... Wish me luck... Javaslinger
  13. To EasyCo and Billtong and the others in power... Forgive my ignorance but with all the constant updates to rules and now maps I'm a bit confused. First, on EasyCo's site their is a link to Map pack 6.0 including updates to all the other map packs. Does that mean that I just need this one file to get everything up to and including 6.0? OR is this just 6.0 and selected maps that have been updated from the other map packs? Thus I need to get the others first and then 6.0 with the updates? Second the link for 7.0 includes not only the Kiev maps but also the rules for '42, teh players guide, and is that '41 in there also? Third and finally, what's the difference between Billtaid and Clickpick? Nothing, everythign, or some things?? Is Clickpick and Billtaid upadated to the latest 2.2 rules? Do they cover '41 adn '42? Thanks, Javaslinger
  14. Thank you fine sir! It's on the way.... Any other courageous folk out there? Or are you all just a bunch of damn sissy girl scouts?? Javaslinger
  15. Mr. Spkr, why don't you stop wasting all of our time with these pathetic posts and get off your butt and send me a turn! So you beat me in one hopeless scenario, now it's time for your day of judgement. I'm starting to wonder if you turn files are worthy of my hard drive space.... Sgt. Goody, you pathetic excuse of a man posing as a drunken female girl scout troop leader, get me a turn too! So it took me a month to respond to your challenge for a game. Now it's up to you! Leave the 10 year olds alone and get me a turn! Javaslinger
  16. How up to date is Biltaid? Does it cover the most current version of Billtong as well at 42? If not, will it be updated? Also, I heard something about yet another update of the Billtong rules coming? Is this true and if so when can we expect it? Thanks, Javaslinger
  17. It's an addiction when you're not dragging turns out of your opponents. I've got 3 games going now and I'm lucky to get a turn back a day... Anyone in here looking to add another addict to their list? Javaslinger esprcorn@yahoo.com
  18. Ok, before I BITE IT.... Let me just say that I have no personal problems with Battlefronts customer service. I think they're a fine company with an excellent product. However, in this specific case, I think it is unfair to ask your budding customers to pay the price for what is essentially Battlefronts mistake. It is unfortunate they ran out of copies of the game, but that is understandable. However, the problems with the strategy guide are Battlefronts mistake. Let me quickly say that they are doing an exemplary job fixing that and reissuing a corrected version. Now the problem, as I see it, is that those individuals who chose to purchase the guide and game together and being forced to pay the price for Battlefronts oversight. The price being either fork out an additional shipping charge or wait a very long time for the game. I understand that they were told that if ordered together the two would ONLY ship together. But it is unreasonable to believe that the consumer could have anticipated such a delay. I can understand Battlefronts viewpoint, but I'm siding with the consumer. Call me crazy. We don't all have to agree. This is, as I said, just my 2 cents. In closing, what I would do is ship the game seperately for those that request or 'complain'. You don't have to ship it for everyone. Don't make it a big issue and the others will never know. A bit slimy, but that's how it's done every day in many businesses. Thanks and let's be civil. Ken
  19. Billtaid??? The long awaited Java manager for Billtong? Tommorow?? Is that right?? Oh god, someone get me my nitro pills!! Javaslinger
  20. I hate to say this, but what is happening here is some pretty poor customer service. I can understand battlefront viewpoint strictly as they are a small company. However, in any other situation this would never be tolerated. As a member of the restaurant industry I have learned that customer satisfaction is key. And what is happening here makes me cringe. I realize some things are different in the software industry, but to make a potential new customer wait an additional month to save $7 is suicide in my opinion. Make the customer happy. They have shown that only 3 of 10 customers will brag about a fantastic experience in a restaurant. 9 out of 10 will complain as loud as possible about a poor experience. No amount of advertising can overcome that. Don't make this mistake Battlefront. Ship the man his game. My 2 cents Ken
  21. Also, the Mad Dog Mod Packs... Can you use them and the CMMOS mods?
  22. Just got CM. Anyway, I'm a mod nut... Do the mods in CM just make the game prettier or do they add features or tweak things? Which ones do I need? The CMMOS... I know it's a mod manager and I know where to get the 5 files for it. Are those files just the manager, or do they include like the more popular mods? Gimme some mod knowlege guys if you can.... Thanks, Ken
  23. Has anyone had any issues with a virus detected in the demo? My Virus shield went bezerk after d/l the demo from the Gamers Hell server... Any ideas?
