  1. Does anyone know where I can find some information about probabilities of units successfuly spotting/being spotted in CMBB? I did a search on the forum but came up empty... Thanks!
  2. Relax, MG-42, and have a beer! Later! I'm off to play my Combat Mission game!
  3. Thanks for the explanation. I've seen this "overturning" behaviour a few times and thought, "man, is jerry drinking too much schnapps to drive the tank?!"
  4. Combat Mission: Afrika Korps (CMAK) moves the focus to three new regions of conflict. North Africa from 1940-43 Italy (including Sicily) from 1943-45 Crete in 1941. oh great! after getting my arse kicked all over Western Europe and the Eastern Front it can now be kicked all over North Africa, Italy and Crete! I can hardly wait!!
  5. In the few battles that I've played I've noticed that that the AI will often lead attacks with its HQ units. The result is that these HQ units will often suffer a quick demise and leaving the squads without any command!
  6. I think this thread is being hijacked...but I digress... I think i'm in the same ballpark as you, Quintus, with regards to point battles. One reason (excuse) is that I only play CMBB 2-4 hours/week max and small battles are easier to finish in that short time span! I'm still an advocate for Battlefront to include a OOB roster option that is accessible during play. Many folks think this allows the player too much control, but one could use it the same as, say, FOW; it is there and you can use it, or not use it, according to your whim.
  7. Thanks for the reply. Yup, I thought I read that in another post but couldn't find with the search I used this forum. I'll try again to find those threads. Yes, this is a "game." I would still like to see the option to have access to a battle OOB (only for his forces). No one would force the player to use this OOB. I don't see how having an OOB for a player can be any less realistic than the ability for a player to turn off the fog of war to obtain detailed info on enemy units.
  8. Good suggestions, Matias! I like your recommendations because I'm an infrequent player. Being the perennial newb here is a question... Does anyone know if there is an OOB option during gameplay? It would also be nice to see what forces I have on the map and their status (e.g. 1 x T34 (v-1), 1 x T34 (v-2) Knocked out, and on).
  9. LOL! Nice post! Maybe selling 50,000+ units will warrant a sequel?
  10. Congratulations to BFC!! I don't have much free time for computer gaming but if I did I would use it to play CMBB scenarios!
  11. Nice post, tom w! This exact event happened to my Panzer IV in a QB. However, my Panzer IV was lost with a side shot to it's hull! Alas, my "regular" crew did not have the skill or experience to stop and fire and ended up being destroyed by a side hull shot. At least I am glad to hear that some crews (your veteran crew) will stop and fire under these circumstances!
  12. The real question is why did you tell your tank to rotate, then move? The way i see it,the move command for a tank is much like move for infantry, except the tank has no fatigue,so why not use hunt(the infanrtys' version of advance) all the time?Even if you had to add an extra way point using hunt, atleast it would have stoped moving and engaged that tank. About the "bug",a few points: 1)Has anyone considered the rotate speed of the tank in question,as compared to its turret rotate speed? As in one may be fater than,or incapable of keeping up with, the other. 2)I know its a life or death battle, but would you rather steady your tank for a more accurate shot,or fire wildly, while twisting all sort of ways? What i mean is(and this is going to be difficult for me to explain),lets pretend that a tank has one round that they could shoot per every 5 minutes. Now,if you fire a wild shot off at your enemy and miss,he knows he has time to make some extra adjustments to ensure he doesnt miss. BadgerDog ,you clearly have more experience than us,so let me ask you some things. You said that the old sherman tank crews knew the tiger had a slow turret rotate speed(traverse(?)i think its called),did some of the tank crews know how long it took an enemy tank to reload? If nothing else, wouldnt atleast the more experienced crews know?Life or death often came down to a matter of seconds in most cases. So i guess what im trying to say is,which is more important, getting in the best defensive position you can and waiting for a "steady shot" opportunity,or firing as often and inaccuarately as possible? You got the tank into a situation it wasnt/isnt supposed to be in(unaware, moving, exposing its flank or rear). It always wants to engage the enemy with its full armour facing it.Your tank wants to get it silhouette lower and get its main armour to face the threat first and fore most.IMHO,shoot and scoot should be used by only extremely experieneced (maybe even sometimes lucky)players,or when and or what it was designed for, when you are desperate, out gunned,or out numbered.Just my 2 cents, was an interesting discussion, thought id join in You can always do as my name says and.... </font>
  13. I had two odd hull rotating issues last night... In one QB I had ordered a panzer IVG to move to it's left. It spotted an advancing T34 directly to it's front at the start of the turn, but proceeded to rotate and carry out my move. The panzer IVG turret counter-rotated (?) to keep pointing at the T34 but never fired a shot!! At about the 30 sec mark the T34 shoots and hits the side hull! hilareous! What happened to my tacAI? or can this be just a random event? (tank commander spotted T34 but forgot to issue "Stop Tank" order?) In the next QB I order a StugIII to advance to a road and rotate ~30 degrees right in order to advance down the road. The StugIII reaches the road but for some unknown reason it proceeds to rotate 180 degrees right then 150 degrees left! Fortunately, no enemy armor was in the vicinity [ February 27, 2003, 09:07 PM: Message edited by: Patrick Moore ]
  14. George Washington! whew! thought it was going to reveal my performance to be more like Petain! ha ha (do folks still use the term Petainist?)
  15. The only use of a captured tank by the Allies that I know of is Oddball's Tiger. I'm not sure what it was designated. I have seen pictures of americans using captured 251 halftracks though. NOTE: When I read this question I assumed that "Alled" meant US/Britain/France. Guess I've been playing too much Totaler Krieg. Aaron </font>
  16. Hey! If you want to try a scenario with zooks and Tiger tanks download "Swatting at Tigers" at the Scenario Depot. At least it will allow you to put into practice what you read on this post! Good luck, soldier!
  17. LOL! You should say 'perceived liberal agenda.' These folks almost hired Rush Limbaugh for their news commentary!
  18. punt! I've been meaning to ask the same question but too busy/lazy playing CMBB. I downloaded and installed a mod for the StugIII. Now the StugIII and StugIV use this same mod. I wasn't sure if I goofed and installed the mod incorrectly... Does anyone know if there is a proper StugIV mod available for CMBO? Thanks!
  19. Have the scans been posted on the web? If so, does someone have a link to site? Thanks!
  20. I would like to applaud the scenario designers whom include an OOB detailing the forces (reinforcements are sometimes not detailed, but I like that unknown factor too!) for the players side. I've been playing CMBB for about a 1 month and CMBO for about 8 months and I prefer battles with small unit numbers. Many DL sites for battles only list battle size. At first I often downloaded "small" battles to find out the map is small but the designer stuck in 10 tanks and 5 platoons per side resulting in a slugfest (which can be fun too). I would also like to applaud scenario designers for listing their reference sources in designing battles! Keep up the good work!
  21. Last night a Panzer 38t took out my T34/M41 with a front shot to the turret. Does the T34/M41, with its curved front turret armor, have a shot trap?
  22. This is fascinating! Has anyone thought of breaking down the victories as a function of the OOB or year? I'm curious to see if, for example, the allies win more in infantry-heavy QBs and lose in armor-heavy QBs...etc...
  23. I believe the CMBO stats show that the Stuart 37mm can penetrate the PzIV front turret armor (and hull?) out to 1000m. I recall looking that up when I was stunned by losing several PzIVs to a veteran Stuart crew...but I will doublecheck the game stats... (pardon my ignorance but is there a website that has this data posted?) [ January 03, 2003, 08:25 PM: Message edited by: Patrick Moore ]
  24. I've grown rather fond of the Stuart after being on the receiving and dealing end of it's quite AT potent 37mm gun (at least when under 1000m)! Was this little tank's 'peashooter' that effective in real-life? [ January 03, 2003, 04:55 PM: Message edited by: Patrick Moore ]
