  1. Wreck, I'm a newbie to CMBO and I'm interested in doing your QB campaign! Thanks for all of your hard work. yeah, you should keep it simple until you are comfortable that it will work! Once you get the infantry working you or others can start adding on to your rules.
  2. How do I turn off the Autosave feature for CMBO v1.12? I could not find any information in the CMBO book. Thanks!
  3. Thanks for the greetings! When I commended BFC for making a game with longevity I am referring to a product that is extremely playable and still has a large player base after 2 years! It seems most computer games fade away after 2 months. After i get some more time under fire from the comp I will have to look up some of you folks for a PBEM game.
  4. yeah, I'm behind the times! I finally bought CMBO last week. I'm not a very good player with a current score of 1 win/3 Losses against the comp, but I'm having a great time playing the game! I salute Battlefront for making a game with such longevity. The most fascinating event to date: While playing as the German one of my squads armed with panzerfausts and hiding in a house tries to light up an advancing M4 Sherman at ~50 yards. The Sherman is immobilized with a hit and the backblast from the PF also sets the building on fire! As my troops are forced to flee the burning building they are mowed down by the immobile M4! (several turns later i managed to sneak a panzerschreck team into range and took out the tank) anyway, looks like I should have plenty of good battles ahead of me with CMBO and CMBB. I hope to see you on the field of battle soon. -Patrick "PAKmann" Moore
  5. hey, i remember my ASL bud had a bunch of scenarios used by AH for ASL tournaments. I liked these scenarios for their play-balance and (usually) small-size, and short-medium length which resulted in many nail-biting close games! Anyone thinking of converting them to CMBB or CMBO?
  6. They interviewed General Moore (no relation! lol) and the coauther (army reporter?) on NPR after the book was published. The interviewer asked him to comment on the VC claims that they won the battle. Moore, sounding a bit astonished, told the interviewer that the Americans inflicted heavy casaulties on the VC, forced the VC to retreat, and physically occupied the battlefield. He sounded perplexed that anyone could make that claim based on the facts. It sounds like the book should be a good read. I will have to pick it up.
  7. The oddest event I recall from ASL was when I was playing the German in Gavin's Take (american paras led by Major(?) Gavin attempting to capture a bridge). We had some brutal close combats in the town of board 3. I retreat to the bridge with 1 german squad, MG, and a leader. My opponent, with his stack of 3 7-4-7 squads and Gavin (10-2?) is moving in for the kill and the bridge. I take a shot at them; Gavin goes berserk and the 3 squads follow suit. They ignore the bridge and become KIA when charging my units! I win by the slimmest of margins [sigh] yup, them were good days! wahooo
  8. Wow! great story. My 'glorious shot' from ASL came in one of the Deluxe ASL scenarios. I sent a M3 Stuart and it's fearless crew into the same hex as my opponent's Panther. I lucked out and killed the Panther with a pointblank shot to his rear armor! I think we laughed about that for a long time... I hope to have some similar stories from CMBO!
  9. I just ordered CM:BO last week...looks like I'll be digging out the credit card again for CMBB. My roommate in college used me as cannon fodder for SL/COI/ASL/ETC. I'm looking forward to seeing an adaption of the scenario...(drum roll).. "The Paw of The Tiger" Those tigers were kicking arse from 30 hexes! I think the other scenario I enjoyed from SL was "Breakout" (??). German SS trying to clear a road for some trucks breaking out of a Russian encirclement.
  10. Thanks for the responses to my questions! I have read of accounts where green troops are often quite lax when it comes to avoid being detected by the enemy. I will be very impressed by BF if this was modeled (or if they thought of trying to model this...) in CMBO! Hopefully I will receive the CMBO CD by Saturday!!
  11. I thought I read that the M16 MGMC was nicknamed the "meat grinder" by the U.S. servicemen because of it's lethal firepower against soft targets.
  12. Thanks for the responses! It does sound like it was my deployment that caused my units to be spotted. Even though my units were 'hidden' it sounds like I either moved them to far forward of the treeline or they were spotted whilst moving (crawling) into their position. just curious but...does anyone know if unit quality if factored into their ability to spot and be spotted on the CMBO battlefield?
  13. I ordered a copy of CMBO last night! I played the meeting engagement from the demo about 6 months ago and found it most enjoyable but was quite lazy about pulling out the credit card. I did have one question regarding the demo about spotting. I noticed that enemy tanks would often spot my infantry hiding in woods/forests at ranges of 500m! I was not pleased...lol Is this a problem with the game or demo? Or was I doing something wrong with my troop deployment? Any suggestions or comments from veteran players would be appreciated!
