  1. I'll second the mortar pit request. I'd like to see an immobile form of the on-map mortar with more ammo, purchasable with fortification points.
  2. Yeah, well one of them had the ball in your court, buster. </font>

  4. Would the Sturmkompanie have mixed the pioneers and infantrymen together in the Sturmgruppe squads, or was there a separate "Sturmpioneer"-type squad with FT teams? If the TO&E really calls back to the WW1 assault detachments, then you'd expect to see FT teams, LMGs (ok, accounted for in the squads), mortars, and infantry guns in there.
  5. The Eastern Front was enormous and lets face it, the Axis never had enough AFV's, especialy for a front as large as the East. </font>
  6. If the Sturmkompanie is an attack formation, why the organic PaK40s? Wouldn't they normally be employed with some StuGs or StuHs?
  7. (Shameless self-quote) And here we find a good reason for the why the Russians kept ATR platoons around after they stood no chance at KO'ing tanks.
  8. If the big AT guns are everywhere, would you rather lose a Pz IV or a PSW 222 in order to find them? In a situation like you postulate, the recon battalion would presumably spot the heavy resistance and withdraw to report their findings, leaving the "fighting" troops fresh and ready for action - while the enemy doesn't really know what they're up against. I like to have some recon-type assets on hand just about all the time. They're rarely a liability, even if they're wiped out. </font>
  9. Here are two older, but very edifying, threads that got "left behind" in the CMBO topic area. How to Attack Like a German - Sample Forces Started by JasonC and meant for CMBO (and eventually encompasing Americans and through JonS to the Commonwealth), but of course the force structures and tactics can be transferred straightforwardly into CMBB for the Germans. Then Andreas started this... How to Attack like a Soviet Rifle Corps in 1944 This is a historical discussion based on the Iasi-Kischinjow Operation. It didn't evolve into a set of recommendations on purchasing units for larger attacks and MEs and how to use them for that "historically-informed" feel... well CMBB hadn't come out yet! Then that topic area got reserved for CMBO and that thread dropped down into the depths... Anyway, here's the questions: 1) Given 2000, 3000, or 5000 points... what would be reasonable forces to put together as a Russian player given various conditions (division type, time period, etc.)? 2) How would they have employed those forces within the scope of a CMBB battle? 10. I'm staring a thread over in the CMBB topic area with links to these two threads. Seeing as this is the CMBO area we should maybe not generate too much Soviet-related traffic here now.
  11. Thanks. I vaugely remember this one from when Andreas started it. It deserves being crossposted over to the CMBB topic area. Having it stated as susinctly as possible for how this translates into "historically-informed" unit purchasing for CM QBs and scenarios and then fighting them would be nice, ala JasonC's recommendations for the Germans and Americans and JonS' for the Commonwealth in CMBO.

  13. From me? Yeah, because you haven't replied to the one I sent you last night! </font>

  15. Ahem - this is of course only true for the west, not for all 'front lines wholesale', and even there it should be June 1940. Ju 87 Stukas were effective until the last days of the war in the east, and certainly used a lot in the Mediterranean. </font>
  16. Scenario in development! Anyone of you mongs care to take it for a test drive? The working title is "Bridge Scramble". It's a roughly 3000 pt. meeting engagement taking place on a foggy morning in Oct. 44, Guards Mech. vs. SS Panzer. Recon forces start out on the map which are followed by tanks and infantry after some delay. I hope at least the map and force mix is interesting. My feeling is it might be rather more difficult to play as Axis. If you're interested I can e-mail it to you. Feedback would be greatly appreciated.
  17. *BUMP* This thread is so good I think it should be considered for a "sticky". And I'd like to second Bruceov's request for a uebergrog post on "How to Attack like a Russian" in the bigger point battles. Anyone?
  18. ...not nearlly as disturbing as I will be unless you send me your turn!!
  19. Yeah, it happened on your last try again too, Jason. Beats me what is going on, some places I can download zipped files without a problem... other places it works only sporadically.
  20. Axe2121, I thought I had dibs on being Sov! Oh well, I'm not overly picky. He has correctly guessed the notion behind my forum moniker. Prinz Eugen and I are about to cross swords on a large map considering the forces involved. A manuever-fest in the offing? Time will tell.
  21. Still waiting for that setup... I am ready here on the 4th level waiting to roast your troops stomachs    with Baghdad Bob to cheer me on.
