  1. Good questions. My guess is that interfaces within the armor help to diffuse the jet, given that Chobham is definately some sort of composite. Though I would never have guessed that plate hardness would have mattered much at given that the jet produces many gigapascals of pressure at the advancing tip. 2. My 40+ turn open ground tank slugfest with Axe2121 has finally ended in a draw (51 me to 49 him). We both lost eight tanks each. My game with Nippy has entered the final stage, with his right folding up but his left holding firm and one of my companies reduced to a squalling shambles. Things are about to heat up between me and DaveH as his Russians advance up the map. Where could those Germans be, eh? Keke's supply of BFA is being tapped with gusto. 3. The interleaved road wheels, while a complex system, did a very good job of distributing weight across the track. Something you have to wonder about with the orginal M4 suspension. Dmitry Loza, on Emcha ventilation: "Open up your mouth and the wind came out your a$$!!" Dmitry Loza, on Emcha heating: "Not for nothing did the Americans give us fleece-lined suits!"
  4. Turns out to Prinz Eugen, Axe2121, Nippy, and Keke. Waiting on DaveH. [ July 11, 2003, 11:23 PM: Message edited by: Shosties4th ]
  5. Actually, although the US HTs mounted with 75s have received a lot of negative press, the Ami's just used them briefly and got rid of them as soon as real tanks and TDs became available. But the Germans, judging by CMBO and CMBB, continued to use HT-mounted cannon till the end of the war. I wonder why these kludgey vehicles haven't come in for a similar amount of criticism? </font>
  6. Before HVSS the Sherman had bad floatation. In the interviews done at the behest of Eisenhower there was one by a Sherman crew that stated that King Tigers were seen operating over ground too muddy for Shermans. The Sherman also could not neutral steer. Definate mobility edge for the T-34. According to Dmitry Loza, the HE filler in Russian rounds invariably detonated some time after the tank brewed up, turning the T-34 into a giant bomb that would kill crew that had bailed but were pinned down close to their tank. Loza expected to die when he was pinned underneath one of his Shermans that brewed, but he survived becuase US HE filler was insensitive. So the edge here goes to the Sherman, even before wet stowage (though it is more an ammo issue than inherent to the tank). T-34s often were seen blowing their turrets into the air ("A T-34 always tips its hat to the Tiger!"), is that the ready ammo going off, filler and all, at once upon the hit? 7. I cannot agree with you on that. Ju-87s (Stukas) were cleared from the sky just as fast, if not faster than other bombers. In fact the main reason Germany stopped using them was the fact that they were so slow. If you have never played a WWII air sim with Stukas then you should because you will begin to see what I mean. </font>

  9. Too much background noise for me, sorry. Made up? Hollywood wouldn't do anything like that now, would they?
  10. This thread should be in the CMBO or General forum. It's definately in Episode 9: "Why we Fight". Chapter 3, at about 28:17. I can't catch what the German officer mumbles, what David Kenyon Webster (the fictional version) has to say is, however, quite clear.
  11. Turns out to Axe2121, Nippy, Keke, and DaveH. Keke, in wishing to settle wether Stravinsky or Shostakovitch was the composer who wrote the most TNT, naturally gave himself UNRESTRCITED force for his defenders in this probe thus availing himself of TRPs and BFA (Big F'ing Arty) while I get plane Jane combined arms. Well gee, guess who's having TNT party time right now....
  12. Last post of the July 4th PTR_ Blow Out... Interview with Vladimir Zimakov, ATR gunner and scout. (Actually he carried the semi-auto PTRS) [ July 05, 2003, 12:56 AM: Message edited by: Shosties4th ]

  14. Oh yeah, I brought a whole rifle battalion to this little party! And you get a PTRD platoon with that. </font>

  16. If Da Sodd wishes to be so intractable, I propose we get one of Nippy's maps and do our own purchases. You do have a "railyard" map you are playing against Robohn right now, Nippy?
  17. With two of my games going rather slowly, I feel like I can take another one on. DaveH, you good to go?
  18. If my guess is correct, Dutch or Afrikaans, languages capable of wounding innocent bystanders.
  19. Keke finds any map that is less than 85% tall pines too barren for his forest UeberElf sensibilities.
