  1. Abbott took the honors of opening up the first thread entitled MasterGoodale's Thread of Cheery Waffle as directed by In-the-Zone UeberBoss ENTJ Soddball. [ July 02, 2003, 01:43 PM: Message edited by: Shosties4th ]
  2. OK, looks like the MasterGoodale challenge will not go the way of an Aston Martin Vanquish parked under a bird-frequented tree at night in Fresno, CA. Forget I mentioned the idea. EDITED cause I can't keep those obscure English auto manufacturer and model names straight (this from someone who habitually read Road and Track in his teens)... oh well, who cares, they're all owned by FORD anyhow! 3. I'll probably get the hell slagged out of me for bringing this up, but wouldn't the most appropriate place for this thread be the English-speaking Opponent Finders Forum? If we moved over there (yeah, counting on collective decision making by this bunch...) and made it clear this is the less exclusive of the challenge threads we might get an influx of fresh, juicy maggots with WW2OL tactical abilities to whomp on. I mean
  4. I vaugely remember seeing an Easy Eight in a black and white photo from the Korean War with that same paint job. The commander of that tank was probably as whacked out as Donald Sutherland's character in Kelly's Heroes! BadgerDog is Canadian. Maybe you can get an interesting interview from him, Jason? 5. Turns out to the maggots Prinz Eugen, Axe2121, Nippy, and Keke. I also have a game starting up with BadgerDog though I doubt he'll be joining in on the trash talk here. Gave him an invite though. He trained on M4A3E8's back in the 1960's!!  Great satire there, Nippy. Though things have definately calmed down in the GF compared to this past fall once the Iraq drumbeat got going.
  6. Early Afternoon Sports Update  Axe2121 was able to put some hurt on me with the refuse he has remaining in his OOB when I got a bit overconfident... but let's see if you can keep this run of good fortune up for long, maggot! Prinz Eugen is either busy in RL or sulking due to my ability to frighten the yella-livered crew out of a T-43/85 with some 250/8 HTs he had been disparaging. Nippy has his infantry camping in woods while his tracks scuttle around wondering what to do. Which brings us to the second Finno-Urgic on the list... Keke, whose setup I have accepted and whose Magyar Stravinsky-loving Fascists (hunh? ) are playing "Rite of Spring" in the oh-so-appropriate time of Decemeber 1944. No doubt wishing to deny the brisk wind of Socialist Realism which will soon blow through their ranks to the strains of DSCH's 4th and 5th symphonies. 7. Nietzsche: "That which does not kill us only makes us stronger." MasterGoodale's corollary: "So slather that molten TNT on extra thick to do the job right the first time! ARARAGGGGHHHHARARRAGGGG  "
  8. If you've got the rounds 120mm mortar FOs, 105mm and 150mm Arty FOs can do the trick. Plan ahead so the response time doesn't become an issue (you can walk the fire around and use delays if resistance doesn't materialize where you think it is). 9. If it is, then you should feel right at home you non-Indo-European-speaking Asiatic refugee. [Pardon me if you're one of them Swedish-Chef-speaking-Finns.. "MORK MORK MORK"] Dimitri is gonna have to take you back to school for that remark, buster! No way that pampered emigree nonce could channel the psychological disturbance that DSCH could under the constraints of Socialist Realism. I propose we do battle! Don't make me break out disparaging comments about (GASP!!! ) Sibelius on yer a$$! [ June 27, 2003, 02:43 PM: Message edited by: Shosties4th ]
  10. And before anyone elses bitches about it.... a War Cry... AAAAARARRRRRRAAARRGGGGGHHHHH ARRARARARGGGGHHARRR ARRRARARAAAAAGRRRRGGGHHH AAAAARRRRRGGGGAAARRRGGHH
  11. Hey, he's not proliferating his special (ahem) brand of rhetoric in dozens of threads in the CMBB forum as he was before this scheme was hit upon by the founders.
  12. Yes, but how would you react when the minister of state security announces he needs your money to build prisons and hire guards for the subversives? Or the minister of education needs the money to rebuild the schools destroyed by bombing, and to hire teachers to replace the ones now in the military. Or the minister of transportation needs the money to rebuild damaged bridges and tunnels. Or, more likely, when they all need your money at the same time???  Actually I personally believe the worst thing any nation can do is throw all of its money into arms and war production. That is wasted effort, and produces nothing of lasting value. Ask the former Soviets how it worked out for them. I'd better watch out, Soddball might get me into trouble with the General Forum police. </font>
  13. The best way to play grand strategic wargames would be as rival teams, where folks can specialize and handle tasks best suited to their abilities and interests. I'd like to think I'd make a pretty good minister of armaments and war production in such a game.
  14. Actually, it was the sameness of the military units and the sameness of the combat that bored me the most. It's the very same problem I had with Cross of Iron back about 10 years ago, and the same problem I had with Empire before that. I couldn't identify with an army or corps or airfleet like I can with, for example, an anti-tank gun. In CMBB I find myself thinking, "Just hang on for a few more seconds and the MG will get set up and open fire on that infantry squad that has you pinned." Nothing against Strategic Command as a game. I've been reading an AAR on that thread between Jersey John and Disorder that really got me interested. Evidently they are a lot more into it than I felt. To me the units are just generic infantry, generic armor, generic air. If I want to do production and research I think I'll play MOO2 and Alpha Centauri instead. </font>
  15. I'm offically back now. Turns out to Axe, Prinz Eugen, and Nippy. Note the new profile address; use that one now. [ June 26, 2003, 01:03 PM: Message edited by: Shosties4th ]
  16. Hey guys, I'm sure you're all disgusted to see me, and for that so much the better... The move is complete and things are getting situated. My project for tomorrow will be setting up a new "workstation" in the bedroom (my old one was too big and too damaged by prior disassembly/moving/reassembly to have been worth bringing back... the POS! ) and getting a compatible modem for the cable (w00t!!). Hopefully turns out to Axe and Nippy tomorrow night or the day after. Is Prinz Eugen still out in the forests chucking sticks and pinecones? Oh yeah, I almost forgot.... AAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGRRRHHHHHHHHHAAAAARRRRR GGGGRRRRHHHHHHAAARRGGGAHHHHHHAAAAAGGGRRR
  17. Nippy, use quote blocks ya idjit. As for that battle, you're on! Fire that setup over. Robohn, he was responding to me.
  18. With Prinz Eugen off to excerise I feel somewhat bereft of TNT chucking. Who's up for an attack or assault game. I have enough of MEs for the moment. I'll play Allied for a switch from my current games. Anyone? Anyone?
  19. Qu'est-ce que c'est? While we're at it, what is the deal with Finns and cell phones? I seem to recall reading somewhere they have the highest per capita usage of cell phones in the world. Probably has something to do with getting lost in the woods all the time. Jas  n </font>
  20. Alright. Alright. Update and turn for you later today. Prinz Eugen, if you haven't gotten your sleep-deprived-self lost in the forests your delivery route winds through, I'm upgrading to 1.03 because, as you can see, AxeDerSpkr is geting restless. If you are lost in the forests, feel free to join up with the UeberElves and take up kantele playing.
  21. Egads! Axe reveals himself to be, of all people, MrSpkr in Canuckian disguise!
  22. You guys are migrating away from REVS' focus: the CMBO/CMBB player. Shying away from self-analysis here? The question stands: does personality type correlate with victories in PBEMs and TCP/IP games? One popular personality type theory out there is the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. Lots of resources based around it are available over the web. The "AE/AR" axis REVS has expounded upon is equivalent to the perceiving/judgement axis in Myers-Briggs typology. The three other axes are introversion/extroversion, thinking/feeling*, and intuitive/sensing. With four axes with two extremes each you end up with sixteen archtypes. If you're interested in this at all... and I'm betting the last paragraph probably dropped out 90% of the readership ... there are a number of places to take online tests with dozens of questions, but it's probably best to just answer four simple ones such as those given here. If you've found a tentative MBTI for yourself, you can find a more detailed thumbnail pysch portrait here or among many other sites you can find via a search engine. OK.. back to the question: My guess is "Thinking"* types will have a distinct advantage, but then most wargamers are probably there anyway (but listening to all the moralizing on the GF I have to wonder). Introverts are probably better at focusing all their attention on the game at hand while playing. But the other dimensions have potential pros and cons for play style either way. Naturally the only way to say for certain would be to get the data and poll players. I'm INTP and I'm not really that good at CMBB (yet?). Notes: (*)One can get wrong-footed by the descriptors... "thinking" is best described as a tendency to base decisions on logic and being rational, while "feeling" is a tendency to base decisions on value judgements and being moral/ethical/esthetic.
