  1. I noticed you were originally looking for 16 players and so far have 12 plus Scorpion as the odd man out. I'd be happy to play him right now and make it 14 if you like.
  2. The Meaty Whore entered RAF Squadron service in July 1944.
  3. U have to be jokeing! Spain yes they leaned facist But occupiod Ireland? Great Britain and Ireland were formally united in 1801 under the name of the United Kingdom. UK History Maybe the game designer figured Axis should have Supported IRA? </font>
  4. In my experience Spain usually triggers if the Germans take London and hold it for a turn against any British counter attacks. I'm sure it's more complex than that, but in my experience that's all it takes. I'm surprised at Eire coming in on the side of the Axis. Has anyone else seen this happen?
  5. You've got me thinking... Has anyone else noticed that you never see Hubert and Rambo together in the same place at the same time?
  6. Assuming you don't want to keep the secret to yourself, what's the most surprising thing a human player's ever done to you? Mine was during a German invasion of the UK where I had tried and failed to take out London, but had landed adjacent to Edinburgh and was about to march in and claim it from a battered and helpless Britain who had insufficent MMPs and units to defend it. Victory was mine, which was just as well as the Russians were pressing towards Berlin and I'd very little to stop them (which was why they'd declared war in the first place - oops!). On the allied turn I watched with horror as a Russian transport arrived via the North Sea and promptly landed in the Firth of Forth with snow still on their boots. I never ecovered. The Red Army clung grimly to Edinburgh Castle until the Americans turned up a few turns later. The rest is silence... I hadn't even considered the possibility of this happening, as the AI would never attempt it. Anyone else got similar experiences to share?
  7. Nope. And it's "resources", not "ressources".
  8. And could we have it by Christmas please!
  9. And my seven reasons: 1. The discussion has nothing to do with Strategic Command. 2. It's annoying for other users of the forum to have to wade through off topic discussions. 3. He's concerned that if too many people post off topic threads then there will be so much "noise" in the forum that many will stop using it. 4. He's quite happy for you to have a discussion, but in the appropriate place. 5. If he didn't moderate the board it might easily degenerate into flame wars. Witness the recent trolling by our departed diehard stalinist. 6. The forums are in many respects the public face of Battlefront. If a newcomer to a game's board finds it dominated by heated discussions about "the nine best WWII whatevers" it might affect his perception of the game. Try looking at the GI Combat forum for an example of this. 7. Because he can! By the way, what's a Marin? Some kind of fish?
  10. I must have played too much Third Reich in my dimly remembered youth. Attacking France in 1939 was something you only attempted if the French made an error in setup, otherwise it was suicidal. I felt it would be the same in SC and was surprised to find that going for the French first works extremely well, with France surrendering in March 1940. The Poles are hampered by the lack of a leader and can't break through a screen of German corps while the remainder of the Wehrmacht falls on an off balance France. Has anyone tried the strategy in a PBEM or TCP/IP game?
  11. Hubert, I would suggest re-naming two ports and a city in the UK in the next patch: Gillingham - Gillingham was not a naval base or even a major port in itself. The two major bases covering the Thames Estuary were Chatham and Sheerness. Of these, Chatham had the more extensive facilities including shipyards. http://www.worldnavalbase.org.uk/ for information. Firth of Forth - The only major naval port on the Firth of Forth was Rosyth. This was a major facility and also the HQ for the RN in the north of England and mainland Scotland. http://www.freeport-tech.com/WWII/017_britain/39_navy/rosyth.html gives details as of 3 Sep 39. Edinburgh - This is actually more in the location of Newcastle. Despite the fact that I live there, I have to admit that Edinburgh has never been a major industrial centre on a par with Newcastle. In 1939 the latter was a major shipbuilding and industrial centre. I'm sure many of the geordies on the forum would agree with me!
  12. HMS Victorious was commissioned on 15 May 1941. http://hometown.aol.co.uk/robjerrard/myhomepage/royalnavy/vict/vict.htm gives a brief outline of her career.
  13. Couldn't agree with you more RicKhan. If you think Konstantin Rokossovski is too long, you should try typing in Squadron Leader James Bigglesworth. IMHO the finest air commander in the British Empire if not the world! http://www.biggles.nl/en/ gives more information. Never mind at least I can name one of my RAF air fleets "666 Squadron" in his honour.
  14. Never completed and without ehgines, the Graf Zeppelin ended the war scuttled in Stettin harbour. She was refloated by the Russians and loaded with war booty before being towed away to Russia. She survived till 1949 as a floating target. Her sister ship Peter Strasser never made it off the slipway before being cancelled and broken up. http://members.tripod.com/EFaust/grafzepp.htm gives an interesting potted history.
  15. I thought this was a very interesting mod dgaad. How about a "Tukhachevsky Lives!" mod where Hitler confronts a Red Army that was never purged? I'm sure that would be a popular one!
  16. You missed out Petrograd. The second German carrier was to be called Peter Strasser. It might surprise some of you to see how far the jerries got with building Graf Zeppelin: http://web.ukonline.co.uk/aj.cashmore/germany/carriers/grafzeppelin/pictures.html
  17. Beat me to it Dgaad, it looks like the only way to settle this!
  18. Pressing the escape button will take you back to the desktop.
  19. I like the idea. It would give the allies a little more of an edge without a major change to the game engine. It would be nice to see it as an option.
  20. Hubert, it was me that Niklas was playing. Could you make the game end earlier, because I was still in the lead in late 1945 until the VVS overwhelmed me!
  21. Hubert, will it be possible to load a PBEM saved game and continue playing it through TCP/IP?
  22. I absolutely agree with you. Historically the Germans often outdid the Russians in their determination to leave nothing useable to the foe. It would be nice to see v1.05 extend Scorched Earth in Russia to Axis retreats as well.
