  1. Six out of the nine games so far played have been won by the Allies though.
  2. If you take Marseilles the Vichy capital relocates to Algiers. Take Marseilles and Algiers and they should surrender.
  3. This isn't the case. Add up France's start MMP's and you'll get 115 - it would be 130 if the Maginot Line generated 5 MMPs per hex. The number is solely a measure of the strength of the fortification.

  5. This thread will give you some info on the Siberian Transfer. Unless the Axis player makes serious inroads into the Soviet heartland the Siberians won't be activated.
  6. I still don't think the Axis have a clear advantage under v1.06. In the current Christmas Tournament, six out of the nine games finished so far have been won by the Allies. It'll be interesting to see how the remaining three games go, and perhaps even more interesting to see if Hubert takes the Allies when he plays the winner.
  7. Irish Guards, I'm here all day if you want to play. I'm five hours ahead of you, so not too late!
  8. In the last four games I've played TCP/IP I've won three times as the Allies. The time I lost I was playing the Axis! It seems to be the other way round for me. Before v1.06 I would have agreed with you, but the new research rules seem to have robbed the Axis of their early advantage.
  9. When did the tournament fall apart? Everyone else was waiting for you to play Waltero, and now that you've done that we can go on to the next round. Or has Brad said something to the contrary? [ January 04, 2003, 05:23 PM: Message edited by: Archibald ]
  10. It actually says the following: Perhaps you misread the manual update, as it is a condition of Axis Stalemate Victory that France has surrendered. The news that the game seemed to ignore your holding Leningrad is disquieting however. Have you posted it as a problem for Hubert on the Technical Support Forum?
  11. You don't keep playing forever. The game ends on May 7th 1947 no matter what. If neither side has fulfilled it's victory conditions then it must be a draw. QED. [ January 03, 2003, 08:05 AM: Message edited by: Archibald ]
  12. The Axis do have clear cut victory conditions. They win outright when there are no active major powers left to oppose them. On rare occasions playing as the Axis against the AI I've even managed to knock out the Commonwealth before the Americans declared war, resulting in the end of the game in August 1940. I wouldn't advise trying this against a competent human. If neither side gains total victory by May 1947 then the game assumes mutual exhaustion and calls a halt. The stalemate victory conditions then apply: I would assume that anything else is a draw, although perhaps Hubert could clarify this? I don't see a problem with the Axis player opting for a long term defensive strategy, indeed historically after the failure of Fall Blau they were on the strategic defensive. The aim of the game after all is to win, not to play an exciting game. The more I play Strategic Command the more I begin to appreciate the subtlety of the game mechanics. This coupled with Fog of War makes it a superior challenge to Third Reich for me personally. After perhaps a dozen games against human opponents I'm beginning to appreciate the mixture of bluff and calculation required to win. Against an aggressive player used to quick campaigns I could see how a calculated and cautious style could frustrate them.
  13. This can happen. Playing the AI, I've seen full strength level 5 Italian fleets with a bit of experience instantly destroy level 1 American fleets at strength 10 as they lay at anchor. I have to admit that it's quite surprising when it happens.
  14. At least that's only five hours behind Scotland. [ January 01, 2003, 05:10 PM: Message edited by: Archibald ]
  15. It's March 1943 and 82ndReady has declared as the Axis. Norway, Sweden, Iraq, Syria, Finland, Libya , French North Africa and Sicily have been liberated by the allies. In Russia, the Wehrmacht has been stalled on a line running from Konigsberg to Kiev to Odessa for the last 18 months. They have only taken Odessa so far and Russian attrition is beginning to tell. A very enjoyable game. I just hope Irish Guards doesn't live too far away, as the eight hour time difference playing TCP/IP with 82ndReady necessitated my getting up at 0500 a few times.
