  1. I found some data about the rate of fire of tank guns (Wolfgang Fleischer, Gepanzerte Feuerkraft, Podzun-Pallas Verlag, 2004): 7,5cm Kwk 37 L/24 (page 77): 10-15 shots per minute. No further detail about the range of 10-15. 7,5cm Kwk 40 L/48 (page 113): 10-15 shots per minute. No further detail about the range. 7,5cm Kwk 42 L/70 (page 119): 6-10 shots per minute. The range is a result of differing original gun data. 8,8cm Kwk 36 L/56 (page 124): 10 shots per minute. 8,8cm Kwk 43 L/71 (page 129): 10 shots per minute. 12,8cm Kwk 44 L/55 (page 132): 3-4 shots per minute - two part ammunition with separate shell and propellant. The author is not stating what quality the loader must have to achieve such reload times. So with the exception of the relatively slow reload time of the Tiger, it seems to be more or less in the given ranges for the German tanks. Interesting that the Kwk 42 L/70 has a slower reload time (6-10/min) mentioned than the Kwk 36 L/56 (10/min). Measurements of ammunition: Kwk 42 L/70: Weight Panzergranatpatrone 39: 6,8kg Weight Panzergranatpatrone 40: 4,75kg Kwk 36 L/56: Weight Panzergranatpatrone 39: 10,2kg Weight Panzergranatpatrone 40: 7,3kg I can not find any data for the shell size.... Uwe
  2. wokelly, they way you want to stray away from the missions shipped with TOW seems to be the exact right way to improve the game. I always think the amount of reinforcement troops is way too high. To get the same amount of troops you have started with two times as a reinforcement feels odd. Same goes for the TO&E - seems a bit off now and then with standard missions. Looking forward to your first mission and hopefully the full campaign afterwards. Uwe
  3. If that will make it into the add-on, I will make a little dance around the white, blue and red flag..... no, not the one with the stars, just the one with the stripes Uwe
  4. With the old drivers and shadows on, I had ~1-3fps. Now with 7.6 drivers I get an estimated 25+ fps (same with the old drivers and shadows off). I have TOW running on 1280x960 on a CRT. UTexGrad, do you have the same issue with the shadows or is your framerate generally low with TOW? For me it was only the shadows that slowed down everything before 7.6. Uwe
  5. Good news for a change TOW played fine and had no fps drop for me (AMD X2 4600 with both cores enabled in TOW, 2 GB RAM, ATI 1950 PRO, Vista 32bit) as long as I had all shadows DISABLED. This was the case with the original TOW, with the patched version of TOW and with both ATI drivers 7.3 and 7.4. It was the only technical problem I had with TOW After upgrading to 7.6 everything runs smooth and easy on highest settings - including self-shadowing on!!! So far I have not seen any other problems after upgrading to 7.6. Maybe not Battlefronts or 1C merits - but who cares. Uwe
  6. Slapaho is the one to agree here. ZONN, post some more details e.g. PC specs, where is TOW hanging, were you be able to install it or not, can you access the game, what have you already done to fix it. Maybe than the community or one of the mods will take the time for a serious answer. Uwe
  7. I am debating if I should get Commander: Europe at War. To me it seems to be more a beer and pretzel game (SC and SC2) than a serious wargame. Uwe
  8. I guess Panzer76 had a problem with the shadow settings - with shadows on "off" it should have worked out smoothly. Ahh, too late now. Uwe
  9. Would be my first choice too - unfortunately (and understandable) I think BF has to go the Normandy way to attract more customers in NA and GB. And that still is the main goal. Hopefully they move on to the eastern front early. Uwe
  10. Pandur, is it possible that the AI has a "spotter" (high scouting skills) somewhere around?? Maybe you can check that in the mission editior. The high scouting skills would make him good at camouflaging himself (hard to spot) and good at spotting you. He could be the one responsible for you being spotted and attacked by off-map arty. This is not very likely - but you never know. Maybe it is actually part of the mission design to make you start to move fast ASAP. It would definitely not be what I would consider a mission I would like - but that is another thing. Uwe
  11. It looks more like a dream to me I do not see any different animation with the German tanker in the vid than what we have so far in ToW. Uwe
  12. When were your copies stamped by the mail in Ireland??? This way we could see what caused the delay Uwe
  13. Can one who has received the package already check on the wrapping when it was put in the mail - maybe this will shed some light on the whole issue.... Uwe
  14. SlapHappy, the bright red icon means just that your unit has a LOS to the target. LOF is not visualised to the player. The opaque icon means that your selected unit can not see the enemy, but another one of your units can. Uwe
  15. That is exactly the point! As soon at it has a cupola, like the Panther, the commander has the ability to check a 360° angle. BUT the commander: 1) can look only at one direction at a time 2) has to peek through viewing openings around 2cm high 3) has to deal with glas covers of these openings that get dirty (dust, smoke of engine or gun....) 4) has to command a tank and its crew (probably getting shot at) at the same time So there should be the chance of spotting at 360° - at a reduced rate, depending on scouting and experience of the commander. SlapHappy, can you try your test with tanks without cupolas and with crews other than regular?? Maybe this gives more hints to where the problem exactly is or how it can be fixed. Thanks for the good test set up. These are the ways to improve ToW - hopefully 1C is going that way with the community and with Battlefront... BF is obviously already on this way. Uwe
  16. I think both games are/will be worth the money. If you can get only one if them..... Ask yourself some questions - and maybe you find the answer yourself: 1) How important is the WeGo system for you?? 2) Is WW2 or modern warfare more interesting for you?? 3) CM:SF "seems" to be more realisitc on the tactical side of gameplay - Is that an issue for you?? It is Battlefronts policy to publish a demo of every game. If you are waiting until the CM:SF demo comes out you can make a direct comparison of both games (I guess that would be the best approach). For me personally ToW is way more interesting than CM:SF. But this is only caused by the above question 2. I am not at all interested in modern warfare. WW2 is most fascinating for me because of the huge technology step during that 6 years. So I can not give you personal gameplay preference. I read here and there on some other forums and there are some posters known to the battlefront forums too who are very loud with their dissatisfaction of their bought version of ToW - maybe you can buy the game cheap from them But for what reason ever, none of them has offered to sell their copy yet..... Uwe
  17. Destraex, check out Moons post here in the "second" patch update thread. Uwe
  18. General_solomon, I think it was stated before that infantry entering buildings seems to be a bigger issue that will not get patched in. It should be on the list for either an add-on later this year (not the Moscow one) or in an ToW2. Either Moon or Madmatt had posted that before - can't find it now.... Uwe
  19. The waypoints, the LOS tweaks and the AI targeting the turret when target is hull down will make quite a few people happier - I hope at least. The game speed acceleration/deceleration seems like an interesting feature too... especially the deceleration could come in handy. Let's see how this plays out in the final game. Thanks a lot for keeping us informed in such a detailed level. Uwe
  20. AFAIK the AI of the opponent in the tutorials is somehow "adjusted" to help the player learn the basics of the game. The single battles will have the standard AI - but I do not know if it is not going to happen there too. You just have to try it and hope for the best. I have not seen such strange behaviour yet in the battles I played other then the tutorials. Uwe
  21. Try the bottom left button in the double coloumn of buttons... Bottom right is "Hold Position", bottom left is "Hold Fire" Uwe
  22. I tried that in the battle for the French "Last Chance". All the German tanks were out of ammunition and I only had an immobilised Char with MG ammunition left. So I started pounding a German "Kleiner Panzerbefehlswagen I" ...... and went for supper. After coming back ~20min later the German tank crew was still in its vehicle and did not move at all. I disembarked the Char and my 4 crew members got nailed by the "Kleiner Panzerbefehlswagen I" to end that battle. Uwe
  23. Txema, I have a Asus X1950Pro with an AMD X2 4600, 2GB and Vista Home Premium. In general everything runs smooth and easy with everything on highest setting. Only after fiddeling around with AA and AF settings in the CCC I ran into problems with the shadows of the game..... All video settings in ToW on max: AA and AF at the standard setting after driver installation AND "object shadows" or "self shadowing" on - the game is smooth and perfect. AA and AF cranked up to the max AND "object shadows" or "self shadowing" on - the game is at ~1-4FPS. AA and AF cranked up to the max AND "no shadows" - the game is smooth and perfect. I am right now in the process of figuring out, which of the AA, AF or Catalyst AI setting it is, that causes the problem. Uwe
  24. That is a picture from the Russian museum at Kubinka near Moscow. It is AFAIK an original old piece. Uwe
  25. ianc, I had the exact same problems with ToW at the beginning. It helped a lot for me to switch the camera to "Attach to Center". This way when pressing the middle mouse button the camera centers to the point of the cursor and you can circle around that point by moving the mouse. This way you can (more or less) center the view to every visible position on the map. I am absolutely happy with this camera set-up now. Uwe
