HQ tanks are still identifiable in extreme FOW
Wicky replied to offtaskagain's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
ID the HQ tanks comes quite easily http://www.battlefront.com/cgi-bin/bbs/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=23;t=000317 [ September 04, 2002, 08:56 PM: Message edited by: Wicky ] -
How to buy the MAC CMBB in Europe?
Wicky replied to solo's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Pre-order and buy it direct from Battlefront (once we can pre-order) in the USA. CDV do not deal with the Mac version. Also you get the unadulterated version with swastikas and SS (no not stainless steel) in the raw. -
In a test of IDing the HQ panzers on the steppes. Gave the Germans a 200% bonus, loads of xtra tanks but no HQ tanks to go with them. It seems that the 3 HQ tanks can only handle the C&C of so many tanks, a couple of the xtra did have blacked out lines of C&C, the rest seemed on their own and prone to routing and panicking after a few crow scarers were let off. Even the stock rusky forces were able to take them all out apart from two immobilised in the rear. Especially after so easily taking out the 3 HQ tanks (identified as such in xtreme FOW) I would have presumed xtra platoons of tanks would be granted their own HQ units to match. In CMBO extra infantry squads came with a leader. A fix or summthink?? [ September 05, 2002, 04:39 AM: Message edited by: Wicky ]

Please bring back the shockwaves......!
Wicky replied to a topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
For reference to se where my arty is going (and/or coming in on me) in I would like to see instead of the shock-horror-waves, that hang in the balance, how about smaller versions of the dust that lingers when a building is taken out. Not sure what would appear when snow is on the ground - fluuffy white steam?? Finlanding Arty grogs?? Can't wait to see night battles! I wonder if there will be a few flashes to tell what's coming down and blowing up plus the parachute flares that'll illuminate the battlefield for a turn or two. These are the raw bmps in the Demo data folder - No modding done. I just extracted them in PS7 as a contact sheet reference for you all. Then I compared them to the units in the demo and subtitled their designation. Viola! My main purpose was to edit the HQ units with a clearer identifying mark as in 'HQ' on any officer class pic. This subtle mod (not shown here) I installed and things became easier, even in xtreme FOW, to ID the command tanks on the steppes and prioritised taking them out (gamey?). It worked a treat as the remainder routed and panicked and wouldn't come any deeper. Edit: spulling [ September 04, 2002, 11:53 AM: Message edited by: Wicky ]

To help when identifying (especially) those pesky enemy HQ tanks.... Edit: These pics are the raw bmp's in the data folder. I've ust id'd them with their file no' and unit type from the demo scenarios. [ September 04, 2002, 10:43 AM: Message edited by: Wicky ]

I think it do.... Similar targeting tactics as with infantry will thus come into play. Also not launching your HQ tanks into frays.

I like very much the movement and pause orders that will help with mass vehicle traffic. Did a little experimenting with the German tanks in columns along the road and depending on how many waypoints you set for them, you have more precise delays for them to start off i.e 4, 6. 8, 10 secs etc. Much more realistic than everything setting off at the 'green light' and then colliding. Plus the pause is now in units of 10 secs, which is much better than the 15 sec pause incrementations in CMBO. Very nice control touches P.S. Like the Macs bmp folder for easy modding and possible CMMOSS thingy P.P.S. When can we preorder?!?

CMBB demo on Mac OS X not loading
Wicky replied to pzichi's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Welcome to the mad, bad world of Combat Mission (on the Mac). If your trying to start it up in OSX via classic, don't expect much. Try system booting from OS 9.2 and run the demo from there. For a more thorough explanation of the ins and outs of CM and Macs try a search for 'OSX' and 'rave' Have fun. -
possible Spoiler Alert!!! . . . . . . . . . . Possibly immobilised by a hidden ruskie tank hunter mob near trees? When ever i've played both sides they seem to, at a minimum, stop a tank without destroying it. But then they would've revealed themselves ?!? Could be the game engine with a possibility of breakdown/shed track... who knows! Steve

Cor Blimey! Where did this thread pop up from? I hazard a guess that everyone here will be the first to pre-order from the US of A CM:BB. I have had my credit card burning to spend and it will expire at the end of the month, I really suffered until I recieved the new one ready for the big day.

Wicky replied to kawas's topic in Combat Mission Archive #4 (2002)
Shame to bump this (and any post by 'Kawa' saki?) but has Roxy added him/herself another identity? Will we ever find out??? -
Nothing about CM:BB on the English part of the CDV website except the pre-release pics after a search. But in the German language part of CDV there is something about Combat Mission 2. Illustrated with a very dramatic picture of squaddies about to be squashed (no backward R's at all;)), I tried to order but the secure transaction keeps coming up and telling me that I'm not who I am and that's as far as it goes. I think if the order had been processed I would have gort the disk in German (not good I'm English) and it would have been for PC (not good again as I'm on a Mac). A poor show or I should have I paid more attention at school in languages and computer studies? Edit: OK I've read the small print..... Scipio [ August 13, 2002, 12:35 PM: Message edited by: Wicky ]

Shall I, sharen't I take the bait - oh well it's Sunday.... A variety called 'Moroccan Heatwave', it's specially cultivated for the Tiggers litter tray. Please no jokes about poohing bears and glad to hear you liked the 'giffy'. Ran some tests on the airburst HE grenade from the Tiger in laboratory conditions and funnily enough doesn't seem to inflict casualties on infantry but makes them pooh themselves.

Nahverteidigungswaffe Thanks for the small (long word) lead! Obviously tanks had smoke grenade launchers but I never thought that BTS modelled in the engine the explosive grenade ammo that explodes as a 1m airburst (see animated gif) that's so thoroughly explained at the website linked above. I'm amazed that after 2 years CMBO still pulls these surprises.

Here's an odd one Tigger chasing a pesky truck and it can't seem to get a clear shot at it running rings around the Tigger (slow turret can't keep up) - Then lo and behold, what appears to be a grenade/mortar shell launches from the Tigger and blows up the truck!!! Checked it in the movie from different angles and it certaily came from the Tigger, no other units nearby - Is this a rare close quarter weapon ?

Not a bug my friend. If you check in the editor you'll find that a whole airforce flies over right at the end of that evacuation scenario. Edit - I suspect it to be of your own scenarios. If so you've done some pretty wacky ones inc jeeps, kubelwagons and trucks racing. [ August 10, 2002, 01:21 PM: Message edited by: Wicky ]

My Mum is Hungarian (nearish to the Ukraine) and my dear departed Grandmother from Budapest in '57 allegedly immobilised a soviet tank with a broom, can BTS please have a copy of CMBB sent xpress delivery so I can urgently validate if this manoeuvre is correctly modeled in urban conditions.
