  1. -is it a game function or a bug, that the allied player becomes no informations about his lost lend-lease when axis subs attacked him? The allied player should receive this info during the 'Last Turn Summary' pop ups during the beginning of their turn. It falls under 'Military Activity' -is it a game function or a bug, when the swedish airforce does not intecept axis airstrikes against swedish units located next to this full-strength swedish air-fleet? This will happen on the first turn of an invasion of any country, it is more or less used to simulate the attacker advantage during these surprise attacks. After the first turn all units will act normally, so if the Swedish air unit is still around with the proper strength >= 5 it will defend -is it a game function or a bug when rocket detachments can't be turned into transport-ship? This is normal -is it a game function or a bug when an axis airfleet intercepts an allied bombing run when it is the very target of this bombing run? This I have never seen actually, but agreed with Andrew it would be an interesting game function The functions given in my replies should be the same throughout all modes of play but if you find an example where it does not behave as you expected send me a game turn where I can reproduce it and I'll take a look Hubert
  2. Strange... try contacting webmaster@battlefront.com and see if he might have something to add. For me I'm pretty much on the outside looking in on these forums as well... well other than the fact I get to move the rowdy threads once in a while Hubert
  3. Yeah this is a strange issue, it all depends on each system sometimes and like I said, on mine it seems to work most of the time but then the odd instance I get the graphic mess on the bottom of my screen. Sorry that I can't say more than that at the moment but I'll see what I can do. Hubert
  4. No changes here, the Usa and Russian readiness factors are linked by actions during Sea Lion as you've noticed but the mechanisms that calculate percentage increases are separate. So it could be the case where Usa readiness will go up and Russian readiness more slowly, or reverse or even at a similar rate. Hubert
  5. Thanks guys In terms of the AI, I honestly don't remember doing anything in particular as it has been a long time between patches but if it appears to be playing better I must have done something right and that is always a good thing Air power is a tricky one, and I'm still thinking about it but don't expect any more changes here until an SC2. Hubert
  6. As posted in the SC Discussion Forums I would suggest taking a look at the 'TCPIP Quick How To Guide' found in your SC installation directory as it should answer and provide workarounds for most TCP/IP issues. As for your posts above I am honestly having a hard time following them, sounds like you are trying to play PBEM and TCP/IP at the same time so it is a little confusing. Just off the bat here, if you start a new PBEM game once the player has started the game and finishes their turn, they should receive a message that the saved turn file has been deposited in their PBEM directory. Once your opponent has sent you the file, you will have to place it in your PBEM directory and then launch SC selecting the LOAD SAVED PBEM option from the MAIN MENU screen. The game will only load files with the extension .sav and not .sav.txt. The .txt may have been added from opening and saving in your text editor or could have been added by your email program. This or other forms of file corruption/stripping has been known to happen from Hotmail or Yahoo users and the common workaround there was to zip the files before transmission followed by unzipping them after you receive them and placing them in the PBEM directory. If this is done there really should be no reason a PBEM game will not work. If you can confirm these steps that would be great and after that we can look at what else might be wrong if it still does not work. This should help for PBEM but for TCP/IP you will have to be a little more specific as to the steps you followed and what each player sees on screen (i.e. host IP address listing etc) in order for me to verify what is or what is not happening in your particular case. I would also suggest trying either a PBEM or TCP/IP game with someone who is known to have successfully done so in the past as this might help narrow it down for you as opposed to you both trying it out if neither of you have done so before. Avoid the blind leading the blind sort of thing Anyways, let me know if any of this helps. Hubert
  7. A text file called 'TCPIP Quick How to Guide' has been included in all patches from v1.05 to v1.07 Beta and should answer most questions for you concerning your specific TCPIP issue. This file is installed with the patch and can be found in your SC installation directory. Without knowing the specific issue you've encountered I cannot say for sure what the problem might be but I would suggest taking a look at the file and see if it might narrow it down for you. Just an FYI, SC is not limited in it's support for Cable users but rather there are some limitations in how Cable users access the internet that may limit their ability to play any online game such as SC, Combat Mission, Civilization III, whatever. I would say most of these issues are covered in the 'Quick How To Guide' with provided workarounds. If after you read through the text and it is still not helpful, then feel free to provide me with a more detailed assessment of your problem in the Tech Support forum and I would be more than happy to help. This would be the same for your PBEM issue. Hope this helps, Hubert
  8. Even for me it still happens on the odd occasion, what version are you running? Hubert
  9. Very hard to tell what it might have been specifically without seeing it myself but my guess is that it could be any number of the above items which could have caused this. Either way looks like it's not a major problem but thanks for feedback guys! Hubert
  10. Background programs will probably do that once in a while, it might also be the graphics overhaul. [Warning: Some technical jargon here ] The program uses automatic memory collection and the higher res graphics could be pushing the limits of the collector on lower end systems which may cause a slight slowdown here and there. Hubert
  11. Please try the updated beta as I am hoping it fixes the first bug you've encountered. The second bug with the war map crash on 'ESC' has also been fixed Hubert
  12. Great set of AI suggestions As with your previous list I will definitly hang on to these for future reference. Hubert
  13. While there is no toggle switch for in game units, there will be an 'Extras' folder included for all final v1.07 versions which include the original unit icons. In fact this folder exists in the current Walkon downloadable demo and it includes 3 different unit icon sets (including an enhanced original v1.0 - v1.06 set) as well as the original resource icons for the game. Enjoy! Hubert [ April 20, 2003, 09:44 PM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]
  14. Not to worry, the demo is a direct reflection of the final version so there will be no cleansing as you've described above Hubert
  15. Glad to see everyone likes the updated look as I think the artists (Holzemfrumfloppen, Jim Bunnelle, Dan Olding and Fernando J. Carrera) did a fantastic job bringing SC to the next level Hubert
  16. This will depend on when you purchased the game, recent purchases within the last month or so I believe are v1.06 but anything prior to that you would have to reapply the patch. Either way once you reinstall from the CD you can double check the version on you computer by checking the version number at the bottom right hand corner of your screen in the MAIN MENU screen. If it shows v1.0 then you'll just have to reapply the patch. Hope this helps, Hubert
  17. I believe I have corrected the incorrect display of resource strenghts after the fall of France, if you get the chance to test it out with the updated Beta patch please let me know, thanks! Hubert
  18. I made an adjustment in the code, it seems to have improved the repeat rate of this problem considerably, if you get the chance to try out the updated beta patch please let me know, thanks! Hubert
  19. From what I remember there were no changes made from v1.06 to v1.07 in this regard, was this for new French units or for remaining Free French units that are still around after France had been liberated. If the latter then this has always been the case. Hubert
  20. Just wanted to say thanks to everyone who has responded to this thread and announce that I have made an update to the patch correcting some of the anomalies reported by Iron Ranger, Santabear etc. Same link as before: ftp://ftp.battlefront.com/pub/patches/stratcom/sc_patch107beta.exe Thanks, Hubert
  21. I just ran a test on Windows 98 and while it did not happen each time it did happen a few times. This is a new issue and does have to do with the recent DirectX/driver changes I made for compatibility with newer video cards. Some newer cards were causing much worse problmes such as killing and restoring focus with the screen flickering and going black each time you navigated through a game window. I'll look into it to see what can be done programmatically since it is a real challenge to have a consistent setup for each flavour of Windows, fortunately does not happen in XP, but when it happened to me in Win98 I was eventually able to restore the window by either clicking on the game window again, or the taskbar or by minimizing and restoring without having to restart the game. Let me know if that helps or even works. Thanks, Hubert
  22. Could you guys describe this issue a bit more just to help me track it down. Does it happen deep into the game or randomly, is there a lot of action happening and let me know a bit about your systems as well. Edit: When did this happen was it during your turn or when you were observing your opponents turn Thanks! Hubert [ April 16, 2003, 12:11 PM: Message edited by: Hubert Cater ]
  23. JerseyJohn I'll think about a separate sticky for suggestion type threads but for now I will just add 'new player' type links to the initial post as a FAQ sticky was seriously needed for some time , but by all means don't hesitate to add anything here you think might be relative to new players even if it is for ideas on future games, thanks! 24. Not sure about this one, I didn't make any changes to the TCP/IP that I can remember off hand and just ran a quick test where everything appears to be normal. Might have just been hiccup, but can't say for sure. Did this ever happen with previous versions of SC? Hubert
